theavonlady 2 Posted May 15, 2002 No! No! Wait! What concerns do we ICQ users need to be worried about? What ICQ hacks are out there? Do they affect the latest ICQ versions? Who's on first?

ralphwiggum 6 Posted May 15, 2002 AFAIK, there are bombing hacks(DOS), unauthorized add(FetishFools's prob) also, AFAIK, ICQ messages are not encrypyted.
theavonlady 2 Posted May 15, 2002 I know there's an IP address hack, where someone can indentify your originating IP. Also, I've seen member name spoofing on ICQ chat rooms. I saw these about a year ago. Have they been plugged?

Placebo 29 Posted May 15, 2002 I use ICQ 2000b because there's a working patch to get rid of those annoying ad banner thingies underneath messages, plus I find this version the most stable, I do also have the patch to show people's IP's as well as add them without authorisation, I don't use it maliciously of course I just find it annoying waiting 3 days until someone notices the request waiting.....Plus of course it's fun to freak out the noobs
Placebo 29 Posted May 15, 2002 Actually I just remembered a very major security issue that affected me maybe 12-18 months ago, my UIN was stolen, because it's sub 1million apparently those are quite popular and people steal them then sell them on, I managed to get mine back but the advice I would give is use an alphanumeric password which is nice and long, also be sure to set up your 1st Email address and make it hidden, that seems to help
WKK Gimbal 0 Posted May 15, 2002 I'll never get ICQ. It's enough that my telephone keeps ringing or my inbox gets flooded by all those annoying women who want's me badly.
nordin dk 0 Posted May 15, 2002 I've been getting a lot of those "Buisness Proposal" from Africa letters recently. I can't belive the stupidity of people. Those that believe this sh*t and fork out their lives savings deserve to be screwed.
FetishFool 0 Posted May 15, 2002 ICQ has a lot of security flaws. One major flaw is that people can steal your contacts list online. Then they can spam to everyone on your list under your name, if they want. Before you know it, all your friends have blocked you and told you to fuck off. (<--happened to me recently.) My friends soon figured that something was wrong when two FetishFool's with the same UIN were online at the same time. Damn ICQ, eh!
Placebo 29 Posted May 15, 2002 I've had icq for 5 years now, hence the low uin, in that time other than having my uin briefly stolen I've had no other problems with it at all

Granted ICQ has a few features AOL doesnt have, i just find it more to my liking.
