Hasha 2 Posted May 15, 2002 Since the hind is so tough and can carry 8 pple, why dun we use it as a peaceful chopper by rescueing pple in floods, earthquakes or sea-rescue. I can save way more pple than the conventional rescue choppers. If flies faster and tougher(can fly in weather condition that normal rescue chopper must be grounded) and the BIG cargo you can put more victims in it. How is this idea? We should use some those killing machines to peaceful means. What is ur take on this suggestion? I LOVE YOU !!! BE MY LIFE!!! AAAHHHAA! Maybe you can go to Russia and pay to fly one just like you can with a Mig. Why would the U.S. use Hinds for rescue ops in bad weather when they we have the Pavelow, which is a far better piece of equipment. <span id='postcolor'> You can ask your buddies who have flown other chopper before, it follows the same principle. I mean use the Hind for civilian rescue, it will be superior.

I DREAM AND THINK aBOUT YOU EVERYDAY: <span id='postcolor'> well, first off, look at that little ass door into the personnel hold. How are you going to mount rescue ops through that little ass portal. You need a lot of room, so that you can fit stretchers etc in at odd angles. Have you taken a look at the interior of a Hind? (the interior of OFPs Hind is good for this)... How friggin cramped are the people in there? How is that effective? And the Hind, despite its size, really is an attack chopper. the pilot doesnt have very good visibility in his cockpit (the top one), and it is not really ideal for anything but a weapons delivery platform with limited ability as a personnel transport. I would prefer a UH 60 or a CH 53, as these are dedicated transport choppers and therefore are designed around getting people in and out, not with launching a missile
Hasha 2 Posted May 15, 2002 You can always do some simple modification by enlarging the door and removing the seats in the cargo bay to make room for the stretcher rite? I am saying using it for civilian rescue, not OPs.
LordZach 0 Posted May 15, 2002 hmm true dat here sometimes the NAS sends some CH-53s or something on S&R in the mountains, but i couldn't see a MI-24 doing it. not exactly built for it.

You dont just go selling attack helicopters to the public. I suppose you could modify the seating arangement, but the rest of the stuff is basically taken on an as-is basis
LordZach 0 Posted May 15, 2002 and sometimes they have to land in tight areas, somehow i don't think something nicknamed the flying tank (wasn't it the MI-24?) which is kinda bulky would do that very well.
Hasha 2 Posted May 15, 2002 Well, give the hind a friendlier look by removing all the rocket pods and stuff, take out the 30 MM gun in front and replace it with a search light. Viola! Then paint a Red Cross under the belly and at the side-- Now we have a friendy version of the hind Saving lives!

No matter what you do to the personnel area, there will just not be enough room for anything approaching what is needed for SAR and other duties. I am not concerned with what the helo looks like, as long as it gets the job done. I want to go back again to the poor visibility that the pilot has to any area but his front. For SAR ops (especially when it is a sea rescue) the pilot needs to be able to position his bird precisely over the rescuee. In a Hind that just isnt feasible without a crew cheif sticking his head out the door and saying "a little more... little more... dammit, too much, go around for another pass..." do you get what Im saying? And unlike what you previously said, the Hind isnt a all that good a performer in bad weather/ night

WKK Gimbal 0 Posted May 15, 2002 1: there ARE special versions of the Hind, used for rescue, weather measuring stuff and other non-military operations. Just look at any site that has details about all Hind classes. Some even have custom hulls, when extra windows and stuff is needed. 2: I'm sure Russia sells military equipment to anyone who's got da money Atleast some years back they did.
