geloxo 2 Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) Hi, I´m testing one 3D model to create a kind of tunnel structure and I face the problem that geometry works fine for player (in order to enter the tunnel I must go prone and can´t stand up when I´m inside) but AI seems to detect all geometry surfaces ok except the inside ceiling of the tunnel, so soldiers can walk on the upper surface of the ceiling block, collide with side blocks, enter the tunnel but they cross the inside ceiling surface (ie bottom of the upper block) like ghosts cause they don´t go prone and can even stand up without colliding to ceiling). There are no open faces (topology check was done) and House config is used for object ingame. Model is an inverted U shape structure and has resolution, geometry (with 3 components and weights --> 2 side blocks and 1 ceiling), roadway and paths (they are only a plane inside the tunnel), as you can see in the pics below: I tried all kind of combinations, such as making geometry bigger or smaller than resolution, making roadway same as resolution, adding view and fire geometry with different shaphes and sizes but nothing works... I even turned model 180º so that it has a U shape and soldiers can walk properly on it, so surfaces are ok. It seems there´s always a limitation for AI to detect the surface which is on the lowest level, closer to land. Probably I´m doing anything wrong or is just that AI can´t detect ceilings if they are below the standard soldier height. Any ideas? Thanks a lot Edited February 4, 2011 by geloxo
[aps]gnat 28 Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) The "rules" for AI interacting with the 3d world are different .... they have less ;) Its quite likely you will NEVER get AI to negotiate a low tunnel properly. I'd certainly be surprised if they can. Wheres your View Geometry? View Geometry is what the AI "see" or more specifically, can't see through. In this case, VG could just be a copy of your normal Geometry. But, I suspect if they "see" the big block of ceiling, they'll never walk through again, even standing up. I also note you have no Pathway lod either. Edit: Its there sorry. Edited February 4, 2011 by [APS]Gnat
geloxo 2 Posted February 4, 2011 Yeap Gnat, I think the problem is that what I intend to get is not possible. As I commented in the post I also added view and fire geometry (it´s not there in the pictures but tested on a different model version) and had no results. There were a copy of the 1.000 LOD (all faces pointing to outside the model, by the way). Well, easy solution is to make tunnel so that it has just 2m height (soldier size), so that they enter and never cross the ceiling. But it´s a pitty as realism is not 100% achieved if the tunnel is so high (I was looking for a size that forced someone to go crouch or prone) :j: Cheers
