Acid81 0 Posted February 2, 2011 Is there any reason why the AI would not engage ground targets a once called upon ?
NoRailgunner 0 Posted February 2, 2011 Please describe it a bit more or upload the mission/video so we can see it too! ;)
FladFox 10 Posted February 2, 2011 I saw a post or patch notes this morning regarding this; (reading, it wasn't from today) Basically a fix was implemented to let planes drop bombs without diving, but in turn caused a new bug that makes the CAS not attack if there are too many targets. sry cant find the link. Acid81 0 Posted February 2, 2011 Please describe it a bit more or upload the mission/video so we can see it too! ;) Ill try to describe it. I dont have a video of this. It was a scenario mission. I was between two buildings rather close to the target about 70mtrs from a BRDM-2. Command stated i had CAS available incase of heavy threats. It was a four man team, one machine gunner, one corpsmen, one riflemen and i was leader. I painted the BRDM, radioed for CAS, to harrier's with 6 lgbs a-peace, they responded requesting a lazed target. I automatically replied the corrdents, they received it saying birds were inbound contact at marked location. I sit in position and waited. I herd the jets fly by but nether engaged the target, they just flew around for awhile and then RTB'ed. Lucky there was a dead enemy soldier close in my vicinity with an rpg. I was forced to finish it off by hand. An upcoming patch for OA ?
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted February 3, 2011 If you were in the middle of a city then the laser could have been obscured by the surrounding structures. Of course it could have been something else.
MissionCreep 12 Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) Sometimes I've noticed CAS missions get aborted, eg weather, AA threats, and as in your case, no reason given (possibly a bug?). Some scenarios give you time windows which you can call in CAS, and for the rest of the time "that asset is not available". You have to try again later. But basically, I've never considered CAS to be a completely reliable backup. Is is Arma 2 or OA? What patches, mods etc? Is this reproducible on demand? Also, what mission? User or BIS? Imperator[TFD] 444 Posted February 4, 2011 Having been both the pilot and the observer I can tell you know that locking onto the laser designator in some circumstances can be very very difficult and requires a lot of practice on behalf of the observer. But the rewards of that practice are epic. :D
