TRexian 0 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) This is a Work In Progress, that I really need some help on - mostly because I can't even finish my own f'n mission! The Setup: Long ago, in what seems like a whole different world, it was 1992. In that year, the DOS-based progenitor of first-person-shooters was released: Wolfenstein 3d. Those of us of a certain age probably spent many hours in university computer labs and dorm rooms playing it. I loved it! In reflecting on how much fun it was, I decided to try to re-create the style of gameplay with ArmA2. Sure - Wolf3d was very gamey, but it was f'n fun! :) So, I started work on this mission: JTD_Wolf3d. Set in Fallujah, you are a US Marine, William Robert "Billy Bob" Blazkowicz, that has been captured by the enemy and taken to a safe house. They've taken all your equipment, and now you must try to escape. Fortunately, you've overpowered and killed one of your captors. The mission starts with you on the roof of a building and a dead bad guy in front of you. Get out of the city. (Ironically, your great-grandfather was in a similar situation in WWII....) The Download: http://www.mediafire.com/file/h6whbkijd7af4qw/JTD_Wolf3d.fallujah.0112.7z The Required Addons: ArmA2 CO (untested on either vanilla A2, or on straight OA) Fallujah1, an awesome map (also tested the last few days on Fal 1.1, which seems to work, too). http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=111737 JTD Ambient Civilian Traffic ver 2 (beta): http://www.mediafire.com/?nuzr2d1zozg JTD Mines: http://www.mediafire.com/?r57yvrhj68jgb52 Extra units and vehicles addon which can be found here: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6421 (Thanks M0ldyM!lk!) The Install: The package includes a JTD_Wolf3dObj pbo, which should go in your JTD addons subdirectory. The mission pbo should go in your ArmA2 Missions folder. The Gameplay: There are weapons boxes scattered all over the city. The weapons may be better than what you have, or they may not be. Some weapon boxes will always be in the same place, containing the same items, from game to game. Other weapon boxes will be in the same place, but with different contents. Some weapon boxes may or may not be in the same place from game to game. There are also white medkits and first aid kits. The medkits will heal you more than the first aid kits will. Same thing about their location, although they tend to be in pretty much the same places from game to game. The enemy groups in your initial area will usually be 3-man patrols. However, once you get to a certain point, you will find truckloads of enemy. If you get past them, more enemy may converge on your location. (That's as far as I can get.) Hint: look around the building you start at to see if there are any weapons available. The Warning: This is a Work In Progress. I have a clear idea of where I want to go with it, and how it will end. Unfortunately, I can't get there. (Probably going to use Loki's Lost Key eventually.) ;) I just can't seem to survive long enough to make the next 'level', let alone the end scenario. So, I'm opening it up to the public (who are probably better players than I am) to give me some feedback on it. Also, this mission may not appeal to everyone. I like a certain style of gameplay and I like this mission very much. Except for the part about not being able to beat it. (But even that I kinda like.) ;) Thanks! M0ldyM!LK 0 Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) I've been playing a little -- About 30 minutes in, and I've only engaged 3 enemy soldiers. I like the premise of it; I've actually attempted to make something similar. I'll let you know how it unfolds... Also! I discovered that it also requires the "extra units and vehicles" addon which can be found here: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6421 update I managed to make my way to the middle of .. nowhere, apparently. Still, the only enemies I engaged were the first three. I did spot a truck with 6 or so troops in the back shortly after, but I managed to evade it and just kept going in the same direction for about 20 minutes or so with no contact. TRexian 0 Posted January 20, 2011 THANKS! :) And actually, I just made it really far myself, and found an error in a script. Probably another few days and it I should have another version up. I'm surprised that's the only enemies you've encountered. It is supposed to be rather dynamic, but with intensity, so it shouldn't ever be boring. :) And thanks for the units thing - I didn't even know I downloaded that! M0ldyM!LK 0 Posted January 20, 2011 I'll give it another go today for sure. It wasn't at all boring -- It was quite tense the whole time, since I never knew when and if a patrol would pop up. I should also note that I didn't find any health or weapon crates past the last enemy. I'll pull up the overhead of the map and locate where I was for you, if that helps any. Perhaps I just went in a direction you didn't intend me to :P Looking forward to the next version!
TRexian 0 Posted January 20, 2011 haha Yeah, I tried to set it up so that there were some potential sneak-out routes, but that they wouldn't be the same twice. Also, once it gets dark, it gets VERY hard to find the ammo boxes. If you didn't find an ammo box and first aid kit behind the building you start in, make sure you have the JTD_Wolf3DObj.pbo in an addons directory someplace. THANKS! M0ldyM!LK 0 Posted January 20, 2011 The objects are in my JTD addons folder, I apparently just managed to get by everyone without making the whole city angry -- I looked at the map -- Apparently I just got lucky. The south west is easy to traverse so long as you get the jump on one of the minitripod gunners (namely, the one at the south west most 'bus stop'). Just a suggestion you may or may not want to incorporate (depending on whatever script error popped up): I went through a put full squads on patrol through the large open areas and cycled some UAZs along the main roads -- It made life a little bit more difficult
TRexian 0 Posted January 20, 2011 Indeed - I have a similar idea for the next 'zone.' Probably going to use the mechanized infantry script. Also, the swarm1 script will make sure some enemies are drawn to your position, once you get past a certain point. Before you reach the end, at least one helo will be involved. Level bosses FTW. ;) I am concerned that you don't see the boxes. If you are in the editor, can you see them in the drop down box for ammo boxes?
old_painless 183 Posted January 20, 2011 LOL, TRex. What's next, Duke Nukem? -OP

If you are in the editor, can you see them in the drop down box for ammo boxes? I did see ammo boxes -- I found the SVD in the crate next to the house, and a M9 in another box along the way. Once I got past that last DShK though, I didn't find any more, nor did any more enemies come after me. The boxes are there in the editor as well, but I was almost to the airfield based on my terrain association (didn't look at the map in-game, I think it's disabled anyway). FWIW -- I'm using Fallujah 1.1 update Giving it a few more run-throughs and having scavenged a map off a dead enemy.. Heading anywhere but south west is insane:omg: Another fun fact: I just realized that I'm completely retarded -- Every time I said south west? Yeah, I meant south east. Oops. TRexian 0 Posted January 20, 2011 LMAO Good on the boxes! One thing I am concerned with is that I may need more. The problem is, I don't want there to be TOO many, but there are probably too few at the moment. Scavenging is important. ;) (Oh, and the hunting rifle is bugged, and I don't know why.) @ Old Painless- Maybe! :D I guess the A2 hookers mod might come into play... ;)

TRexian 0 Posted January 24, 2011 Ok, new version: http://www.mediafire.com/file/5sp67pjnmgtwljf/JTD_Wolf3d.fallujah.0124.7z Tried to plug that SE route a bit. ;) Also, added some minefields and.... a helo. Don't worry... it most likely won't shoot at you. Yet. (It may take some time for it to come on the scene, though.)
mosh 0 Posted January 24, 2011 I tried it yesterday, played for about 30 minutes... nice atmosphere. I was able to find MK 48 (whatever it's called) machine gun. I then took out the first enemy troop I thought to be alone. It attracted many civilians, who followed me around. I noticed it getting dark so I went back to where I thought I killed the enemy infantry to look for NV goggles. I didn't find his body, and then got aggravated at the civilians following me... so I opened fire on the civilians, and then an army truck I noticed 3 seconds later... I didn't live long after that. Needless to say I'll be more patient for round two which I'll play later today. I'll be sure to try the updated version too today.
TRexian 0 Posted January 24, 2011 haha Never noticed the civs following like that! :) The Mk48 is a lovely weapon! Also - with some of the scoped weapons, hit N a couple times in case they have night optics. I haven't given any AI NV... yet. ;) I'm also getting some feedback that will likely result in my tweaking the truck-filled AI logic. It may be unfair for them to be directed to the player if the player is trying to use stealth and hasn't even fired a shot.
M0ldyM!LK 0 Posted January 26, 2011 Helicopter, you say? Also, is there supposed to be an end mission trigger? Even after reaching the blue zones (which I've done twice now), nothing seems to happen.
Muahaha 10 Posted January 26, 2011 ^ = epic . Will try this mission out once i get a chance to switch on my gaming rig.
TRexian 0 Posted January 26, 2011 Cool pics! :) (Just posted in the 'shooting rpgs at helos' thread that I wasn't able to pull off that shot!) There is no end mission trigger, yet. I have a very specific idea of what it will be, though. Now I can start working on it. Also, I will have a new build available soonishly.
M0ldyM!LK 0 Posted January 26, 2011 Looking forward to the next build! I keep having way too much fun with this, even if there is no discernible end to the mission as of now. The Hind also gets very... angry if you hit it with an RPG but don't bring it down. I've shot it down twice now, but I've also hit it 3 other times that didn't result in a kill shot. It speeds up, flies off, then comes back 2 minutes later and unloads hell in your general direction.
TRexian 0 Posted January 30, 2011 New version. :) http://www.mediafire.com/file/19f10pjtpjxjofc/JTD_Wolf3dMission_0130.7z The hint that the endgame will start doesn't mean it really starts, just that that is where it likely WILL start, when it is in the game. :)
