stirling badge 10 Posted January 5, 2011 Hi, As a long term casual player of op Flashpoint/arma/arma2 and now arrowhead I enjoy the realistic sandbox environments and gameplay along with the editing features. One problem I do have though is with the quality of the AI enemies. I know it must be hard to incorporate realistic enemies and enemy reactions into what is already a complex game but it can be very frustrating at times. For example the accuracy of the enemy is overwhelming. When you attempt to shoot a soldier from many hundreds of metres away they turn around and return almost 100% accurate fire killing you instantly. Another annoying habit of the AI enemies is that they just seem to stand around or drop to the ground when fired at and make no attempt to hide or run away. Apologies if this has been discussed before (point me in the right direction if it has) In some other games like Hells Highway a Bridge to Far, it is possible to lay down surpressing fire at enemy AI positions keeping their heads down so that you can advance. Is there any game settings, mods etc that improve the realism of the AI response and brutal accuracy of their return fire from long range or am I being too unrealistic? Is it just a case of waiting for the AI to improve and look forward to ArmA6 in 10 years time when the technology is such that these issues can be resolved? Muahaha 10 Posted January 5, 2011 The AI nowadays are actually quite realistic and are affected by numerous factors, such as suppressed or aiming shake or recoils ... unless you are standing idle at 1 position for a very looong time, i don't think you will get killed from 300 m away easily. You can lower the AI skills in the game settings to prevent getting kill fast. Hope it helps
demonized 20 Posted January 5, 2011 I cant agree totally with Muahaha, but AI have improved on this area since the start of arma1. I know your frustration stirling badge all to well. Exxelent mods for AI improving is UPSMON combined with zeus AI. UPSMON is AI patrollling and beheaviour, also makes use of surpressing weapons in a way like machine guns. very low PC usage needed for UPSMON. Zeus AI is a AI beheaviour mod, wich does alot with AI, AI gets surpressed, AI flanks better, AI uses surpressing on players/enemys, MOST IMPORTANTLY it lowers the 1 shot 1 kill AI tendency and makes AI use more bullets to kill you. Now for large missions with lots of AI Zeus is very hardware hungry so dont use it on big battles if you dont have the hardware to run it, using a cache units system works very well with Zeus AI or UPSMON, or both together. UPSMON and Zeus AI works very well together. combine it with cache system and you get a powerful easy tool set. Now these are ofc my personal opinions, but there are other mods and stuff related to AI, but these mentioned are the ones i have best experiences with after extensive usage. G.I. NO 10 Posted January 5, 2011 I can recommend using Zeus AI and GL4 to enhance the AI- Zeus AI GL4 Have a good read through the threads, they certainly make changes to the vanilla AI, very immersive results to be had. The Zeus mod recommends that Player and server profile skill levels significantly affect gameplay. Empiricaldata provides the following recommended skill settings for the profile: skillFriendly=0.98500001; skillEnemy=0.98500001; With the above settings, AI provide good suppression levels, attempt flanking manoeuvres on spotted enemy while maintaining close formation and also make use of cover and concealment during movement. Attacks are slower, in larger force and more deliberate. Spotting distance is slightly extended in comparison to lower skill settings. Reducing skill settings to: skillFriendly=0.5; skillEnemy=0.5; With these settings AI tend attack individually or in loose formation with little regard for use of cover. Frontal attacks are common. Recommended precision settings for the player/server profile are: precisionFriendly=0.5; precisionEnemy=0.2; You can play around with these values in your Arma profile to find what suits you; I use the recommended friendly/enemy skill setting and have precisionFriendly=0.040999997 precisionEnemy=0.23999998 If you are interested, see how you go. pooroldspike 129 Posted January 5, 2011 .. the accuracy of the enemy is overwhelming. Yes it's unrealistic, it happens even when i set their quality to 'Novice'.
stirling badge 10 Posted January 5, 2011 Thankyou all for your quick responses! Demonized thanks for your links that is exactly what I was looking for I will download and try it out. Cheers
Muahaha 10 Posted January 5, 2011 I cant agree totally with Muahaha, but AI have improved on this area since the start of arma1. Well I guess for me is to always seek cover where-ever I am... maybe that cut down the percentage of getting killed in game on vanilla w/o mod. :p
NeMeSiS 11 Posted January 5, 2011 Yes it's unrealistic, it happens even when i set their quality to 'Novice'. Since there is an accuracy setting in the config (as explained above, you dont need ZEUS for it, personally i find any accuracy setting lower than 0.45 boring but each to his taste) im having trouble with taking this complaint serious. Though i guess it could use an ingame slider. BI always seems a bit hesistant to clutter our menu's with more options, even though that is exactly what this game needs. :p
meade95 0 Posted January 5, 2011 But when you go to save the Config when adjusting Skill Levels.....How do you "save it". Are you suppose to click "save".... Or "save as". And if "save as"... Which type of file should it be saved as....
meade95 0 Posted January 5, 2011 So just open it via "notebook". Change the variable and hit "save". Thanks!
