Dedicated server for SP

I am considering whether to sell or use my old PC, as I have bought a new one.

One of the possibilties I am thinking is using it as my own Arma2-server, for SP/Campaign purposes.

1. Is there anything to gain FPS/performance wise?

2. Is it at all possible?

A dedicated server will only host MP missions, they will not host campaigns.

You mean, you and your friends want to play over LAN but through dedi server? SP/Campaign missions only?

That´s only thing I can think of you would need dedicated server for SP playing and I am not even sure if that´ll work.

And I´m not at all computer/servers savvy so...is that it?

My point was to get a better performance from Arma 2, by offloading AI-handling to an other computer, in this case a dedicated server.

I am not planning on having any LAN-parties just yet.... ;)

Sorry for my ranting then. As I said, I don´t know shit about servers or how to set them up. Would you have to install ArmA on dedicated server as well as your own rig? Just curious (I might as well give this a try myself).

I don't think you can host campaign games on another computer though, not as a dedi anyway. I think that'll only work for sp scenarios converted to mp (like the standard ones on the server Vik).

You may be able to make the missions run on a dedi server, but unless the missions are specifically designed with dedi server in mind, they will tend to break horribly. Scripting for SP is fairly straightforward. Scripting for MP can be a nightmare unless you're a scripting God that knows all the pitfalls :p
