FreoTravis 0 Posted May 7, 2002 Would It be possible for someone with oxygen to make a unit with a combatpack as well as webbing, because I believe this lack of bergens etc. is one of the most unrealistic things in the game. Imagine... your on along recon mission you spot an enemy patrol laden down with 30kg-40kg of equipment, your group dumps your packs and lay an ambush. Because the enemy are laden down they can't run as fast as you, so you mow them down. After the ambush you collect your packs, rearm from them and leave for another strike. So to sum up combat packs could do the following things: 1.Act as mobile ammo boxes with mags, grenades, charges, mines, etc. 2.Slow down any unit carrying them, like when you get shot in the legs but to a lesser extent. 3. Have the ability to be dumped and retrieved later, with these commands being in the action menu and orders. e.g. 2 drop pack 2 retrieve pack etc.. And If not able to be made with oxygen they should be in Operation flashpoint 2 if it ever comes out.
peeps 0 Posted May 7, 2002 ooo, i like that idea it sounds real, and it would mean you could carry more realistic loadouts. Instead of going out on a long patrol as a machine gunner with no grenades or a machine gunner with little ammo but 4 grenades.
VXR 9 Posted May 7, 2002 sorry we cant make new animations with oxygen
KTottE 0 Posted May 7, 2002 Why is that? Is it because the animations are hard-coded into the game engine? How does it work in O2?
The Jub-Jub Bird 1 Posted May 7, 2002 It isn't really that realistic that on such small islands, where you are never really that far from a friendly base, you would be lugging around heavy rucks fulll of equipment. But nice idea nonetheless. Jubs
Norfolk 0 Posted May 8, 2002 If the island is cut in half and your in enemy territory it's a long distance. Have you ever marched just 2 miles with standard canteen, ammo pouch, flashlight and medical clip? it isn't bad, but you will feel it. 30-100 pound pack does weigh you down, but if you want unrealistic, the constant state of jogging is unrealistic. I wish I could program the soldiers to get tired quicker personally. I like the idea personally, and with the .wrp type programs being made and that program possibly being released, we may have larger island soon. But yeah, I like the idea. Dropable packs sounds cool, and Resistance will have weapons that you can drop soon. So somebody will figure out something.
KTottE 0 Posted May 8, 2002 That won't be happening. Well, a bit bigger. But the total size of the playable area is 12.8 x 12.8 kilometers. That means 163.84 sq. kilometers that you can use. Anything outside this box, will be endless water. Head over to http://ofpinternals.megaforums.ru and download their "West Leach Spring 2". Then you can se what happens when you try and make the land extend beyond the box. Is this making any sense at all?

You can be in the field for days or weeks.
Rifleman 0 Posted May 15, 2002 thats the best idea i have heard in a long time, and i dont think u would need new animations, just make the packs either attached, or on the ground, no need to make a anitmaton of the soldier removing it or putting it on(would be nice tho) but im sure a new pack model could be attached to a soldier, cuz ive seen couches and such attached to humvees im sure there is a way to do it somehow, and i much rather have that than a supersonic jet fighter thats useless and flies like crap
dkraver 1 Posted May 17, 2002 Would be nice just to have a model of a bagpack that could be used like the ammo crates so if you where to make a mission where start in a camp in a forrest or something you would have bagpack as ammo crate instead of big wodden box
