Uziyahu--IDF 0 Posted November 25, 2010 I think another pass over ArmA 2's inventory of objects needs to be made for items that would show up white-hot in TWS or FLIR. For example, an illuminating flare? Not just tracers, but every bullet gets hot. The light-source in a lighthouse? Pavement on a hot day? Rocks? Dark bricks? Not sure, but do the seagulls/crows show up? Exhaust from a vehicle? Vapors coming off a human body?
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted November 26, 2010 Flare: Would be nice, basically solvable as particles with heat signature. Bullet: Doesn't have an object, so hard to do. Lighthouse: Covered behind glass, so invisible. Pavement: Not worth it (texture overhead). The current system works just fine. Exhaust: Same as flare. Vapors: Infrared farts? :D No, not needed, the shape is enough (read: does the trick).
Evil_Echo 11 Posted November 26, 2010 That much detail would clutter up the TI view. You can certainly make an imager that sensitive, but all you want/need is for it to detect good targets.
Uziyahu--IDF 0 Posted November 26, 2010 Yeah, vapors. I've seen FLIR imaging where running troops leave short cometary tails behind them. I mean, if a game is going to focus on graphics over gameplay (horribly broken and robotic A.I., for example), why not work on the graphics more?
