Artilery spoting idea

Recommended Posts

Got this idea as I was reading some stuff in I44 biggrin.gif

how about a spoter plane like a OV-10 Bronco that has smoke shells/rockets when the see a target they fire a round and it would be of good size to see the smoke a fair distance away so artilery/rockets can start hitting that area smile.gif what do you think?

Ok except for the lack of real indirect fire artilery and direct fire rockets. A good idea would to get something like a 155mm howitzer and have to adjust things like the angle by moveing ur mouse or using the action menu so u can hit anything on the island.

wouldnt the enemy see the smoke and be gone by the time the artillery hits?

Well usually, the smoke is dropped and the art fires damn fast...or the spotter just uses cords.

Or they just drop smoke on unmoving targets...

how bout being really good and making the smoke pellet thing land right on a tank biggrin.gif so it moves, so does the smoke , mwahaha

They would move fast if it were tanks but if you think about troops walking or guarding an area then they are toast unless they get into a bunker

There was a really nice atillary spotting misison on Flashpointarena before that page went tits up and I haven't seen it anywhere else (haven't really dug for either so who knows)

It used the UN forces addon and you had some radio commands in the map. You basically called in the x,y and z coordinates that you wanted using values that changed in the radio. (this could be tricky in veteran where you had to read the map). You then called for a marking shot. From this shot you got a visual of where the arti is aimed and you could change the position, call another marker etc until you were happy then call 'fire for effect!'. Also you could specify if you wanted a wide or tight pattern. While firing you could also tell them to move to the left right up down to walk to fire across the target. Very nice and worked good. I really liked that mission.

I have a test script that is almost liek that from OFPEC, haven't used it yet in a mission or modified it, but it is well cool.

It's the only artillery script out there that uses real tanks that shoot, and have their loads land.

You can get it at OFPEC. It doesn't use the UN addon, though.

It's definitly the coolest thing out there. But very hard to use.

Well the mission where I saw the script used the UN addon, wasn't talking about the actual script. Haven't seen it used in any other missions besides that one. Wish there was some more out there.
