"%20" is being added into my file/mission names

Recommended Posts

Whenever I save a mission in the editor, I get %20 added in all the spaces, hence all my missions end up listed as;

Going%20to%20War

Time%20to%20Fight

and some end up with a duplicate name as the extension, which would be fine but they are listed as such in the list of missions that I've exported from the editor. like;

Chandarus.Chandarus

Zagrabad.zagrabad

Is this normal? (I think not.)

Specs:

ARMA II and OA (fully patched 1.55 and 1.80 respectively).

Vanilla NO MODS.

This is normal, don't panic.

%20 = It's just the way arma deals with spaces when saving your missions.

As for the same extension, that's just the map that's been used.

If you create a campaign or export them to single player missions then I don't think that the %20 is even visable.

Give your mission files simpler names like going_to_war. The real name that shows up in the briefing and mission list is the one set in the weather menu.

The "%20" thing is not uncommon. As you have already noticed it's a replacement for the space character (the ASCII code for space is 32, that's 20 in hexadecimal).

Space characters in filenames cause problems with some software and this is just a workaround to avoid them.

Thanks all,

This is kind of what I thought it might be...although to be honest, I thought we left the "stone age" years ago. Your saying this software and/or underlying code can't handle long file names? ...and/or spaces? (didn't BASIC have a work around for that in the '70's?)...wait, that's right they did...just add "%". lol

Actually, I first noticed the problem when I exported to "Single Player" missions.

Weird, how does BIS managed to list their scenarios without the %20 place-mark?

Any way to change it now that its saved?

Would be nice to be able to delete missions from the list without having to do it in all the many folders. (Directory's for us old programing geezers) :)

Thanks Celery, It worked. :)

For anybody a little bit confuse by the Celery's last post...Your better off naming the mission in the "Weather" menu before saving it as My%20Greatest%20Mission%20of%20All%20Time.chanadrus.chanadrus. :)

just_use_underscores_not spaces (that is standard naming convention)

and for versioning use a hyphen -

my_greatest_mission_of_all_time_v1-1.chanadrus ;)

LMBO!

I haven't had to use THAT standard in 20 Years!

at least since they quit making Key-punch machines.

Unless you running ARMA II under DOS...if so you could be right.
