Running beta patch with CA

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have installed the latest beta patch for OA. However I need to run the game as combined arms, but I would still like to run the beta patch. How do I do this?

I am also wondering if the beta patch still has the performance optimizations that it had before the British Armed Forces patch came out. This was my experience: Before the BAF patch came out I was having some very choppy framerates with med/low settings, somebody suggested for me to try the beta patch so I did. Immediately after running OA with the beta patch I loaded into that same server and viola, I had a steady 40fps. I even cranked all of my settings up to the highest possible with AA/AF on high and I was getting consistent 30-45fps.

However right now, I am back in the boat with having a choppy 10-15fps. Even when I set everything to very low with the lowest resolution it has no effect! You would think setting all of the video settings the very low would increase the fps, however it has ZERO effect. The fps is the same, 10-15.

ARMA 2: CO (how to combine ARMA 2 into ARMA 2:OA and use together)

---------- Post added at 16:53 ---------- Previous post was at 16:47 ----------

Anyway, to make it short for you:

if you have installed ArmA2, OA (and of course BAF) into the same directory, you can run the beta as CO with this shortcut:

G:\arma2\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe -mod=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion;BAF -nosplash

...of course you need to change the path according to your ArmA2 directory location.

But if you have ArmA from STEAM, then you should better read that thread i linked earlier, because it seems to be a little more difficult with the STEAM version.

Alright thanks. The more difficult path it is then.

You could also use the exe that comes included with the beta so you don´t have to modify any commandline.

All of the above works fine, but by far the easiest is to just use a launcher. I use the one by Spirited Machine (available on Armaholic). The only thing I havn't been able to get working with the launcher is the Steam overlay, but on the upside you don't need to have Steam running at all (at least with the beta). If you don't mind missing that:

Point it toward your regular arma2.exe/arma2oa.exe and the beta arma2oa.exe, check the 'run beta' box, set game version menu to 'ArmA II- CO', hit 'create shortcut' and you're done. Also has support for any other launch parameters you might want, including mods, among other things.

As for your FPS, I've been running the latest betas before and after BAF and havn't noticed any performance loses.

Psst.....it has to do with the current BIS puzzle/hacks in regards to what is assumed to be an unannounced project ;)
