janh 0 Posted October 13, 2010 I think two things that need seriously be improved in the next OA patches are: - indoor behavior of AI, fighting and moving in rooms - capability of AI to fire through windows on targets in the open - AI ability to make use of houses for cover, and search and clear them when attacking (sort of like an "enableattack" also an "enablebuildinguse" command). Presently, houses and fighting in towns is only half the fun and realism it could be.
wipman 1 Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) Hi, that's hard to improve AFAIK because the AIs are blind, they recon predefined paths and i doubt that the buildings have this paths on the model, only possitions, as points. Is (i guess) more or less as when you order an AI to go to a weapons crate, when it reaches the ammo box then you order him to take something (6-8, the Gear menu) and you'll see how the AI will move to the ammo box proxy that's 2'5m away from the ammo box model itself; you can resupply from the ammo box at 0'5m or less, even step on the ammo box and resupply, that's because you can see it... the AI don't see anything, moves (as crippledly as it can...) to the proxy (the point that it see). AFAIK the AI can't change this way of work, on this certain fields... pathfinding inside houses and interactions with objects as for example the ammo boxes, but im sure that there's many other fields where the AI can be improved. janh 0 Posted October 13, 2010 Nobody said it would be too easy ;-) But if nothing is done, nothing will move forward. It would already be great if AI could automatically use buildings for cover, or search them. Even just following the predefined paths is already something, but it does require scripting right now, instead of say another order parameter, or behavior mode that would determine how much use of insides are made. It would probably be good if buildings would then get 10 instead of 1 spot inside a room, which are maybe marked as "at wall, window, room, alley" or so, that AI could move around a bit and allow CQB. I don't think it would be terribly difficult for the BIS guys, and it would actually add a lot more to the game than another "british forces" pack or so. No, buildings do have path lod, with "roads" that AI follows.
froggyluv 2136 Posted October 13, 2010 No, buildings do have path lod, with "roads" that AI follows. Do you have more information about this? For instance, is it possible to force AI into a new animation scheme when on this specific lod ie. slow crouchwalk, lean, pop in and out of doorway and windows?
