Scorpius01 10 Posted October 11, 2010 ...I find that ARMA 2 still doesnt run on my machine. I actually have a new system which is : Core i7 950 3.07 Ghz 4GB corsair DDR 3 RAM (1600) HD 5970 OC Win 7 32-bit ARMA 2 installed on an 80 Gig SSD with patch 1.07 The game still runs like cr*p and is constently stuttering. Yet i have seen videos on youtube off ppl running the game on max settings even with 10k view distance and it running ok. Is that even possible? I have all the cpucount=4 , -winxp and all that but the game still runs at about 30 FPS and the stuttering drives me crazy and this is on med/high settings with 2k VD? So should I be able to run this game better or is it just not gonna happen I mean I really love the look of ARMA 2 and would love to play it so is there something I am missing? domokun 515 Posted October 11, 2010 Sorry to hear your pain. A2 has indeed come some way but don't expect any miracles ;-) Seriously, that's a very nice rig you have there, so you should definitely be getting smoother frameates . Although I'm sceptical about 10k view distances AND smooth framerates. Have you tried these tweaks?
bangtail 0 Posted October 11, 2010 No machine available (at least to the public) will run ArmA 2 @ max settings/10K VD at an acceptable rate. (Maybe in an open field with no AI but that's about it). You don't need -winxp or -cpucount anymore IIRC (I dont use them at any rate)
ProfTournesol 956 Posted October 11, 2010 That's really something that puzzles me. I've got an inferior but similar configuration (i7 920 not OC, 6 Go RAM, HD4870x2 not OC, HT on, no SSD, Vista 64) and i never got any stuttering. I don't monitor FPS, as it isn't a trouble for me (and as FRAPS reduces FPS). I've got other hardware troubles (overheating, crash due to driver or memory troubles etc.) but that isn't related to ArmA2.
Honeycutt 10 Posted October 11, 2010 I think a while back somebody did an extensive test relating to bandwidth and concluded ARMA2 is a very bandwidth hungry game. So to start with you'd need a motherboard with the latest FSB first and then go from there. If other hardware e.g. vid card, HD, soundcard don't sync right (similiar speed, bandwidth) with the FSB it causes a bottleneck that would screw it up. Oh and as somebody said old drivers may screw it up too. But hey I am running ARMA2 on 2006 motherboard with Win7 64-bit and no crash yet since the 1.07 patch. (appropiate settings of course)
Chill xl 10 Posted October 12, 2010 Scorpius, what video settings are u using? If you don't already have disabled AA try this, to get a form of AA back set the 3D resolution at 125%, 150% or higher. ATi cards seem not to like AA very much, it runs verry sluggish even possible with quite good fps. Upping the 3d res often seems to work better. Also try to lower PP setting as that might hurt performance aswell.
