heedicalking 10 Posted October 7, 2010 How do I set up a dedicated to run a map that I downloaded (Panthera)?
MadJackChurchill 10 Posted October 7, 2010 You can put the map in the command line like any other addon. A proper search would have provided most of your answers, but I'd suggest having a look at the Biki http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/server.cfg
heedicalking 10 Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) I looked at that page and I don't see how you can enable add-ons such as maps to run with the server. EDIT: I got a map working, now what about changing preferences for a mission, like team size. The GUI pops up then closes when I try to change it joining my dedicated. gossamersolid 155 Posted October 8, 2010 You should specify proper terminology. In the other thread you said "Custom Map", not "Custom Island/Addon/World". Custom Map = Warfare BE Custom Island = Panthera.

I am still kind of new, I barely know all the things there are to know. If anyone has played warefare BE< you know there is a GUI called "parameters", when I click on it, it flashes up for 1 second then disappears, so I can't edit them.. No problem, was just confusing to me on why it wasn't working for you. Make sure you are logged in as admin to touch the parameters.

wheres my rabbit ? 10 Posted October 8, 2010 common sense would suggest to someone to refer to an island as a map and not a mission "mapping" in every other game refers to creating new playing enviroments
gossamersolid 155 Posted October 8, 2010 common sense would suggest to someone to refer to an island as a map and not a mission "mapping" in every other game refers to creating new playing enviroments Arma 2 is not every other game. conventions, standards, etc are different in this game. wheres my rabbit ? 10 Posted October 8, 2010 just because gameplay is different doesn't mean you shouldn't still call a spade a spade... visitor = map editor mission editor = hmm i wonder what that does?
bushlurker 46 Posted October 8, 2010 Interesting discussion guys...! Yeah, over in "map making" where I mostly hang out we had a wee flood of new guys posting basically "mission editing" questions in the "map editing" section... A few of the "mapmakers" started a discussion with maybe a view to suggesting a forum section name change - but Wolle & Co were of the opinion (and rightly so, I think), that we have our own decade old naming convention for stuff - newcomers will have to - and generally do - adjust after a little initial confusion... Tbh I don't really play any other games, but I believe what we know of as missions are indeed called "maps" in other games... tough :) As far as I'm concerned - and I think our best bet is to take the actual forum section titles as the nearest thing we have to an "official" guide... All "scenarios" are "Missions", unless theres a series of related ones packaged together with some sort of ongoing or coherent theme, in which case it's a "Campaign". "Terrains" are a little trickier... back in those Happy OFP Days all terrains were islands - and thats what they were called... With the introduction of the "infinite land" algorithm, landlocked terrains became possible, and I think round about that time "Map" became the official designation (or it might have been during the big change from the old ikonboard forums)... whenever... Like wheres my rabbit (theres a name from the old OFP days¬ hi WMR!) says - Visitor3 is officially labelled "Map Editor" and the forum section is now "Map Editing" - so thats what they're called I guess - unless you prefer "island" - even when its not... ;) Confusing? - yes... would I vote to change it? - no B

That'll be fine Heedicalking, you just need to make sure the island .pbo and all other associated files are loaded - the name of the modfolder doesnt matter... heedicalking 10 Posted October 9, 2010 My server still seems to be named "Administrator" when I query LAN, and when I leave, the mission seems to cancel.
wheres my rabbit ? 10 Posted October 9, 2010 are you actually running a dedicated server or just hosting from the multiplayer screen ?
heedicalking 10 Posted October 9, 2010 are you actually running a dedicated server or just hosting from the multiplayer screen ? I am running arma2oaserver, which is the console type thing, and then joining it using the actual game.
gossamersolid 155 Posted October 9, 2010 then in the config put persistant = 1; and make sure you change the hostname or even define one. It should be a part of any basic example config you find.
wheres my rabbit ? 10 Posted October 9, 2010 i already told you how to change the server name and madjackchurchill gave you a link to the server config page on the wiki with all the command you'll need and descriptions
