Getting started whith ARMA 2 OA mission editor

Recommended Posts

First up,

I'm new to this game and this forum, so hi everyone :)

I am actually a huge fan of OFP2 and I never payed much attention to ARMA. Now I got my own copy about a week ago, I have had a great time with it and I'm really enjoying myself. So why am I here?

I have found the mission editor seriously confusing. I've tried to narrow it down to one main thing that has been bothering. You are all probably familiar with the 2 part IED tutorial by BI on youtube. Well I found this a great place to start but I am at a loss as to how to open the 'functions manager' or 'config viewer'. I'm not really sure what these things do but the guy on the tutorial used the functions within it to create the explosion of the IED in his mission. Any help would be much appreciated and I am new to this so sorry if I'm a little slow to catch on.

- by the way sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place, but the site wouldn't allow me to post in anywhere else.

Cheers,

Yeah, I also wanna to ask the same question.

I put model F7----'functions manager' imto my map, however, when i preview the game, nothing happened.

Well, nothing is supposed to happen ;) It grants access to functions that you can use in your mission. To review what these are, make a true trigger (maybe with delay 1,1,1 - not sure if neede) with the on activation field:

0 = [] call BIS_fnc_help

Btw, these functions should not be the first things to learn. The learning curve is a bit steep as it is, try to tackle creating simple scenarios first, without use of external functions.

The functions manager isn't visible in game, it just allows you to use Functions in your scripts.

You guys should really look up some tutorials for the editors and check out the Editing & Scripting forum for more information. :)

If you're just starting to learn the editor, I would completely avoid using the functions module. Don't make it more confusing/difficult than it needs to be.
