bolizar 10 Posted September 26, 2010 Hi all. First time poster here, Just got my combined operations deal, and im in love ! Trying to scratch the surface here, with the behemothly amounts of addons and mods, and here I pose my first 2 noob questions. I appologize in advance if they have been answered before, as Ive just searched the forum without any hits. 1) Is it possible to use custom skins/units to play the main campaign with ? Like switch the razor team graphics with something else....like say SAS or something ? Same question for weapons... 2)Connects to the last part of question 1...If it is possible to somehow broaden the spectrum of gear selection in the campaign mission loadouts. Like to put the weapons from vilas weapons mod (P85) in there, for example, so that any player can customize his gear alot more to his taste. thank you guys for any feedback. regards, zar. Fox '09 14 Posted September 26, 2010 1. you'd need to depbo the campaign, and replace all the main character's classnames with the units you want them to be. OR you could replace the main character's classnames with the ones you want to replace,a replacement config/addon.. I dont know if this is possible but it should be.. 2. again, you'd need to depbo the campaign and then edit that stuff w/ classnames.
bolizar 10 Posted September 27, 2010 hello Fox. Thank you for the fast response and information. If anyone already did this, can they give any tips on the actual process ?? Or do you think it is a too much daunting task for a beginner regards
Drumheller 19 Posted September 27, 2010 You'd have to learn how to make a replacement config and how to drop ammoboxes in the editor without screwing the entire mission up. You'd also have to figure out which class you'd want to replace the Razor Team guys with from the classlist: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73241 You'd have to learn how to un-PBO, edit, and re-PBO the campaign files. In short, yes it's too daunting a task for a beginner. I've been making and editing missions for several months and a lot of the stuff above I don't know how to do or am to afraid to fuck with for fear of breaking things. Unless, of course, you're familiar with similar type things from other games. But let me tell you. I mess with the NWN, Oblivion, and Fallout editors and I know a little gamebryo code and ArmA is nothing like them and while making simple missions can be very easy, once you start delving into the darkness that is making complex missions you may never see the light again. crimsontide 10 Posted September 27, 2010 there is an easier way to replace the default units ingame, depending on what you want to replace. there are a lot of replacement configs for various addon packs out there. unfortunately, I have never seen one that actually replaces razor team specifically, they usually replace the standard marines and generic force recon units. an example is massi's SF units or rangers, which come with a replacement config to replace the default force recon units. here is a link to some of the availiable replacement packs. you need both the pbo's of the units you want to use as replacements and the actual replacement pbo itself in an modfolder, which I am assuming you know how to do. http://www.armaholic.com/list.php?c=arma2_files_addons_replacements&s=title&w=asc&d=0 Same deal with weapons, but it wont really add weapons into ammoboxes, it just replaces the default bis weapons model with a custom one. most of vilas's packs come with replacement configs although I dunno about p85.
