SteveJA 12 Posted September 24, 2010 Hello I wanted to make a story driven mission and i came up with this i hope realistic(ish) plot. If any one (has the patience) can offer any suggestions/feedback it would be greatly recived :) WARNING ! WARNING ! TEXT WALL IMBOUND!! Another day another border dispute in the Middle East. The Takistan province of Takhar has long been disputed over ever since the Russians pulled out in the late 60s. Originally the province belonged to Uzbekistan but was used by the Russians for strategic purposes. A decade later the Russians pulled out and Takistan's new government inherited Takhar and started to build on the fertile land. Ever since, Uzbekistan has accused Takistan of stealing the land and has made several diplomatic campaigns to get the land back. For a few years Takhar have had a few oil companies come and go, however recent discoveries have just shown there are several large oil deposits under Takhar. Uzbekistan, with a struggling economy, is enraged that Takistan are making a large amount of money from their land and tensions rise. During this period the Oliy Majlis party rose to power headed by the controversial leader Theo Karimov. Karimov makes many speeches and statement condemning the actions of the Takistan government seemingly trying to provoke action. Several days after Karimov enters power, one of his close political advisers is assassinated and with no one claiming responsibility, the Uzbekistan's accuse the Takistan's TSS (Takistan Secret Service). Takistan deny all accusations but to no avail since the same day the Oliy Majlis vote 3-1 for military action. Uzbekistan issued a 3 day ultimatum for the de-militarization and evacuation of Takhar. The Takistan government call to the UN for aid, however since statements like these were common, it was seen as just another bluff. Three days later several villages and camps were hit simultaneously by heavy artillery killing hundreds of civilians. Uzbekistan then issued another warning stating if no action was taken to de-militarize Takhar within 24 hours then ground troops will move in. The UN, not wanting to get involved in another Middle Eastern conflict has made it clear that its objective is to evacuate all foreign aid workers. Word comes through that a English doctor is stuck in one of the villages that was struck during the artillery strikes and will require aid to be evaced. A US platoon on foot patrol in Takhar due to be evaced that day was then ordered to go to (village name) help the doctor and then evac. However on arrival the soldiers found that the doctor is in a critical state and cannot be moved until he had been stabilized. With several hours left before Uzbekistan's deadline, the UN makes a plea to, if not to stop, but at least delay the invasion so that aid workers and military personal can be evacuated safely. Theo Karimov openly dismissed any UN statements, believing they were only a ploy used to delay the invasion to give more time for UN forces to move into Takhar. Karimov also stated that no military or civilian aircraft were permitted over Takhar (unless taking off), to avoid the secret deployment of UN troops. Alarm bells now ringing the UN ordered the soldiers at (village name) to move to the airfield to the north east of their position. Before the Soldiers moved off, hundreds of reports were flooding in stating that the assault had already begun, four hours early in fact. (village name) was one of the first targets. As soon as these reports came in two Chinooks were sent to bring back the troops and Aid workers but they would take two to three hours to get there. This creates a problem for the soldiers. If they retreat now, the aid workers will have to stay behind and since they are on foot they would be caught out on open ground. If they stay, evac would be impossible. The question is, when to move out. I am impressed if you actualy managed to read to the end lol Thanks!
VanhA-ICON 11 Posted September 24, 2010 Sounds very good. You did not specify if it's SP or COOP mission though... If it's COOP maybe one playable unit could be added as a field reporter witnessing the first advance of enemy units. Even if he's unarmed he could have options for example to sabotage a fuel depot used by the advancing units? Also an action for US engineers (if any present with the team) to build sandbags could be handy. For the plot I have nothing to add. It's well constructed. :)
abs 2 Posted September 25, 2010 I thought this was going to be another "All the women are dead" mission idea, but then was pleasantly surprised. ;) The only thing I could say is that this is a nice "backstory", but what would the mission itself be about? Is the entire mission just about making the decision? Still, as far as backstories go, this one is nicely thought out. Abs
CameronMcDonald 147 Posted September 25, 2010 Sounds interesting; couple of suggestions if this does get past the idea stage: - Consider a different last name to Karimov. Karimov reeks of Kamarov, which reeks of heard-it-too-many-times-already. Minor gripe. - Might need to extrapolate on exactly when UN (and by extension US) troops have hit the ground; at the moment that US platoon kind of materialises in Takhar without any prior warning. SteveJA 12 Posted September 25, 2010 (edited) Wow thanks for the positive replys !! The mission its self is going to be a multilayer one for around 30 people, however if I could find the time I wouldn't mind doing a campaign starting off with special intelligence units, the assassination followed by the invasion and then an outcome. The mission itself will involve the players defending (village name) and protecting the foreign aid workers. To complete the mission the platoon must be evacuee, with the aid workers if possible. However as stated above if at the start of the mission the CO thinks "right lets move strait away to the LZ" they will still have to wait there for a couple of hours with no cover before the Chinooks came. During which the enemy force (around two hundred men mounted up, and 8ish armored units) that has been ordered south, and now has no resistance to slow it down will hit the waiting troops with full force. The other problem is the Doctor cannot be moved for one hour due to the fact he is in a critical condition, only once that hour is up can he be moved. So the only real way of success is either destroying all attacking forces (very hard) or holding of until a lapse gives them to time to retreat and then (if done with good timing) meet the choppers as they arrive to pick them up (meaning less chance of the choppers being shot down). Other wise if they get to the LZ too soon then the enemy will have time to catch up and attack the remaining troops and Chinooks. @cam Cheers yep i could understand that the name being over used il choose another one. (if i understand what you mean) Takistan is similar to your iraq, it has a hairy past and still need that little bit of military policing. There is a UN FOB just south of Takhur and the soldiers were in the provence on foot patrol. Edited September 25, 2010 by SteveJA360
Tonci87 163 Posted September 29, 2010 A very well thought and good backstory. But it will be a very long mission.... A Few things to add Let the chinooks be escorted by Cobras or Apaches Give the US Soldiers some Transports (Trucks, Humvees) Give the players enough Time to prepare for the Attack Some special Weapons, such as mines, or a TOW Launcher (maybe on a Humvee) And of course some Javelins and MGs
SteveJA 12 Posted September 29, 2010 From recent developments it looks like this is going to be transformed into a campain for 1-8 people. The same back story will be used however during the campain the player or players will play as a mercenary unit who is involved in the major parts of the conflict. The story behind the mecenarys have not been created yet though something along the lines of ethier a takistan backer or some weapons dealer will be used etc etc. The overall story of the campain will be the transformation of the mercenary squad. From just being hired guns to becoming some thing of a Vigilante. So this is how the campain sets out as a draft Mission 1 asassination of political adviser and getting out of the city. Mission 2 moving towards the border and crossing back into takistan just before the arty strikes. Mission 3 Moving to (villiage name) and discovering and engaging a Uzbekistan recon unit (killing survivors). and later on abushing a convoy triggering the early invasion. Mission 4 Main mission as decribed above but as the mercenarys fighting along side the US troops Anymore we have the time to create since the story can then be made around the missions. The main mission 4 will also be playable as the US therefore enabling it to be used as one of our sunday ops for around 30 people.
