"2 Sound Card" question

Recommended Posts

After reading some solutions to other related problems, I suspect that what I'm asking is impossible but just in the hopes someone knows a workaround I'll ask anyway.

I have two sound cards. One for audio editing and one for gaming. Due to the set up which I won't go into detail, I have to use the audio editing sound card as my primary audio device for gaming.

That's all fine and dandy except there isn't a feasible way to get my headset mic to work with my sound card unless I buy some pretty whacky adapters.

So I use my onboard SC with programs like teamspeak and skype for simplicity sake. In this set up, The mic works through the onboard SC and the output goes thruogh my outboard sound card.

Can a similar setup be done thruogh arma or is there no what to independantly set which driver and device arma uses for input and output?

AFAIK sound in/output is handled by Windows, not by ArmA 2 directly. So if it is set up correctly in Windows, there shouldn't be any problems.

In reply to both the message and the response... I have to disagree.. because I am doing that very thing and don't want it to!

I am having the exact opposite issue. My audio for ARMA II:OA (ARMA II works fine) will only work through my speakers, but then I can't use my USB headset and mic.

Here is what I have tried to remedy the problem.

1) uninstall ARMAII:OA (purchased via Steam), remove all instances of profiles I could find.

2) uninstall ARMAII:OA, removed all instances of profiles and cleaned the registry of all instances of OA.

3) uninstalled ARMAII:OA, removed all instances of profiles and cleaned the registry, ran ccleaner to wipe any files I may have missed. Disabled my onboard sound card in Windows so that ONLY my USB Headset was active.

And after each installation the profiles remained and the sound issue continued.

I don't know if Steam stores any of the profile information but I find it hard to believe I missed anything after 3 attempts.

Is there a file I can delete or edit to force a re-installation of the audio settings?

Chuckus, if I can figure out how I did it I'll be sure to let you know.

I have the exact same setup as you for TS. For reasons unknown to man my mic in for my xfi (which windows and arma uses) will never playback my mic properly (its sounds like latency stutters and garbled which I have diagnosed and re installed drivers and updates for and cannot ever get the b*strd to work) so resorted to exactly what you have Mic = through on-board with TS.

I found that arma only looks (and can only see) your primary card that windows is pointing too on load, so it doesn't work as flexible as TS can where it can use another card for input (I wish arma did then I can use my mic for in game voice as well as TS) and other card for its output.

I think all you can do is get that "wacky adapter" so you can use a Y cable setup so mic splits to both on-board input and alternate input for your primary sound card for arma and in game voice mic.

It would be really nice if Arma could do what TS can do as regards a drop down list of cards to select alternate input **HINT HINT REQUEST BIS HINT HINT ETC ***.
