I.M.G. 0 Posted September 3, 2010 one of the items at the top of my wish list is a user friendly, potentially integral method for saving mission stats (object positions, player stats etc) to a database. Anybody else agree?
Bazooka301 10 Posted September 3, 2010 If BIS did this the RPG community would be for ever in there debt.
That guy 10 Posted September 4, 2010 i would like to disagree :) such a feature would be enormous amounts of work for literally zero return.
Evil_Echo 11 Posted September 4, 2010 Do not agree. Stats kill teamwork.
I.M.G. 0 Posted September 7, 2010 I see that 'Evil Echo' & 'That Guy' can not be part of the rpg community, coming from a Master Sergeant & Gunnery Sergeant i would have thought they would have seen the need for memory, or maybe the should think before responding
Evil_Echo 11 Posted September 7, 2010 You asked for opinion and got them from several people. Don't act so suprised that some here don't always nod our heads in agreement. In addition to writing extensively here and on the FreeACE wiki, and having coded a number of addons I lead a small clan than plays both pub and private servers. A save/restore option for A2 servers would be awesome - from the POV of being able to halt a server for maintainance and being able to resume the session. But as a programmer I also know the amount of effort to impliment the save/restore that amount of state is not trivial. Network connections being the major headache - how you re-establish the client machine to unit binding is quite difficult to get right. However you seem to be more into the preserving stats aspect. The bulk of my team are ex-military and none of us have a high regard of game stats or those that obsess about them. Teamwork comes first. Not kill/death ratios, ranks, or other bogus BS. When we see players ranting about stats we invariably notice the poor teamwork, bickering, cheating and missions going tango-uniform because people chase numbers instead of doing their assigned jobs. Anyway - you have my reasons for saying no to your suggestion. Take it and the yes votes to form your own conclusion. Good luck on all your gaming.
