Whats the the difference between cadet and veteran

Recommended Posts

I'v been playing operation flashpoint since the demo, and this has eluded me. Whats the difference between Cadet mode and Veteran mode? I see stuff like extended armor, extended HUD info, extended map info, etc. What do all these things mean? Someone explain this to me.

difference is that they have some features that are disabled. I forgot which, but Veteran mode has a lot less features that are 'supposedly handy'.

there's very heavy differences:

i ll not all the differences but only the main:

in cadet u id the ennemy by the tag, and the map show u where u are (so u never TK or get lost).

The extended armor mean that the armor is count as your health... so u deal higher dammage with a LAW, and if u are in a low armored vehicule (like M113) the machinegun can pierce through and kill u inside.

The guided AT missile mean especially that:

in cadet my hellfire always hit and kill one T72 each

in veteran my hellfire hit 100% if the target is standing, 80% if i move fast (>130kmh), and 50% if i m crossing a moving target at medium speed (>=130kmh).And 2 hellfire for a T72 (one if u are lucky).

So if u want to use the hellfire in veteran mode do this, keep a straight line between u and the target (nav sys unaffected by altitude thought), move at "attack speed" (100-130 kmh), shoot by following your target (ie your target never be moving toward u)... u can expect a 90% hit per shot.

**Still trying to do a hitcount script... got all the thing but in BASIC... but lost in the OPF programm line***

In short, veteran mode is more realistic than cadet mode.

More detailed:

-You have to see the enemy without a HUD helping you.

-Your soldier can take less hits before he is down, normally only one.

-Enemy armor can take more hits, so it`s pretty hard to kill a T72 with a RPG.

-You have to navigate by landmarks and your compass to find your position on your map.

-The enemy acts smarter and tries to circle you and attacks from behind and other stuff. In addition to that the enemy tries harder to find you, when you are in cover and sniping.

-The AI also uses better basic infantry tactics, you can see that in how they move from cover to cover

There`s a lot more. I`d suggest to play OFP with all options disabled, only leave Super AI on. That`ll be the ultimate kick and if you succeed in your missions with these settings, you`ll really be satisfied afterwards.

Yeah, veteran mode is more realistic.

I can't stand cadet mode, I feel like I'm cheating.

Ok, this is all good, now i just need some specifics:

-Extended HUD info is gone in veteran. How extended is that? Do i still see how much ammo i have, what weapon i'm using, etc?

-Extended armor is gone. This means you die with less effort, but does the enemy as well? I heard that it takes more rockets to kill an enemy tank than a friendly tank. Is this true?

-Lastly, does veteran mode effect how the AI acts in any way?

I dunno. I noticed that in veteran mode, it takes like 2 rounds from the M-21 to the chest of an Russian soldier at like 10 yards away to kill him.

I think that's ridiculous. They should change that.

It takes enough ammo to kill an enemy as it is. If it takes less to kill you, but more to kill them at the same time, i'm sticking with cadet.

@Icefire: Aim for the head, that kills instantly.

@Acalaud: -The veteran armor settings works for your tanks and for enemy tanks. Only the weapons have been adjusted to do more realistic damage.

-The AI behaves smarter in veteran mode. Try that in some single player missions or watch the cutscene in which the americans attack the russians in that village. Look how they move and fight (use of cover and so on) . With Super AI on the AI is even smarter, especially in night missions it`s harder to survive as black op.

-When you disable your HUD (I disabled everything) you see only what you`d see as real soldier. But after pressing space and switching fire mode you get your ammo stats in the upper left screen corner. After that they disappear again.

Trust me Acalaud, veteran is only more realistic not unfair (in case that the AI would cheat) .

And also, the mission maker can make the mission work

differently for cadet and veteran players..
