b00tsy 28 Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) This mission was originally ment as an AI versus AI battle, but it turned in to a pretty cool large scale battle so I made a little mission out of it. You are the right hand of Colonel Aziz and you need to protect him at all cost. The US holds Col Aziz responsible for the several recent attacks against nearby villages and they suspect him of providing weapons to the guerilla forces. They are planning a large scale attack on the town we (opfor) are currently occupying. They are determent to eliminate our beloved Colonel, but we are prepared! Features a large scale assault with mixed enemy armor, attack choppers, para jumpers, stealth groups, bombers, enemy support and loads of mixed infantry groups. Your side is highly out numbered, but your side has some advantages such as the town location. There is only one road leading to the town and it is surrounded by hills with almost no rocks and vegitation, so you can spot the enemy easily. The town also has several strongpoints with static defence and several D30's setup around the town. You can basically do what you like to do in this mission as long as you keep an eye on the house where the Colonel is hiding in. A lot of enemy infantry troops are aware of his position and they will try to take him out. The mission ends in a lose if the Colonel dies. Withstand the assault and kill all enemy AI to win. Download Contains a morning and an evening version. Tip: I suggest to rearm your character at the start and during the mission. You may want to help to take out some of the enemy armor and choppers (friendly AI reacts late to armor, but defenitely keep an eye on the area where Aziz is hiding and watch the sky for paratroopers.(I usually take position at one of the hillside strongpoints) Contains mission intro (BS but fun :) ), lose/win outro, decorated town, visual effects and sounds, and a constant dynamic AI battle. b00tsy 28 Posted July 31, 2010 I have a pretty standard pc, no big fps problems for me. It's about the same (bit less, but playable) fps I usually have. I even have a sub standard Gcard. It does have a fairly large amount of AI, but with minimal waypoints and triggers etc. Especially when I take position on the hillside and not in the middle of the village (what always reduces fps) I have pretty good performance considering the large amount of AI. The thread does mention that it is a "large assault".
Brainbug 10 Posted July 31, 2010 Wow, this one is really extreme! FPS are low because of all the stuff going on. I made close to 200 kills just by myself, the AI kills not counted. One single friendly AI (apart from Aziz of course) actually survived o_0 I shot down the aircraft at the beginning, then the Apache got down close to me and wasn't damaged completely, so I repaired it and flew around. Couldn't do much damage though, made a hard landing a good deal west of Garmarud but survived, shot me a Mk19-Hummer and worked my way back in it. A bad idea was to dash into Aziz' house, because I was trapped and ammo ran out, but eventually I made it. All enemies ran together on the hill behind the house where I could shoot them without being shot. Here's a pic I took after the carnage, look at that enormous pile of bodies! In total there are around 350 AI active (approx 250 West side and 100 East), but not all rendered at the same time. Of course it does take a hit on the fps, but not that badly and there are also not any scripts running, only some modules. A 1500 to 2000 draw distance is plenty for this mission and you could always lower the resolution a bit, thats what I do. I wonder how long it took you to kill of the AI? When I look at the shadows in the pic it should be around midday, the mission starts at 6:30 AM! I play this mission in 45 minutes to 1 hour or so :) I played this mission fully around 10 times now and never had such a big pile of bodies on the ground, but then again I never used the chopper to kill the AI lol. I also placed the garbage collector module in the map, that should clean up most of the bodies unless it is not working . I am currently creating a mission where you have to kill Col. aziz (west side) instead of protecting him and it will far have less AI :)
Brainbug 10 Posted August 1, 2010 No, I used a Mk16 and later a M240 to kill these guys, the Apache was just for the view later. And because I was trapped inside the Aziz house, I had to do it carefully, just look through one door and wait until the guys ran by to shoot them with as little ammo as possible per kill, that's why they are all lying in one place. Playing time on the in-game clock was somewhere between 1 and 2 hours (actually I had 2:40 in the end, but I had repaired a few vehicles and ran around with fast time, so that doesn't count). In real time it took me a while longer of course. Resolution or other video details (shadows, terrain detail etc.) have no effect, it's not GPU bound in my box (Phenom II X4@ 3.0GHz, Radeon 5850). View distance had some effect, but with just 500m it was still worse than most large scale warfare games I played. With more and more AI dead, it became better though (so the 15fps in the pic are already the top number). And no, the bodies are not disappearing, in the end I found again the first dead body where I had changed my FAL to something else just a few seconds into the mission.
