Is this the last iteration of the OFP/Arma serie?

Recommended Posts

I've been told that BIS's intends was to go away from making milsims (which they seems to be the only ones doing so) for more "mainstream" games.

If that's the case, is there any chances that we will finally get all those "VBS2 features" that should have logically gotten in Arma2 and/or Arma2OA

Cause lets be honest right now, there isn't much "improvement" from Arma2 to OA.

And i'm sure i'm not the only one who hoped for more than just a big content pack on the same engine.

-We are still waiting for behing able to use personal weapons in vehicles (no i'm sorry it can't be THAT complex to implement, vehicles have working turrets since the OFP days)

-The ability to pick things up: currently the world is static, we can't even pick up a few oildrums to build a makeshift cover or a traffic cones to build a checkpoint.

-Granted we now have deployable tripod mounted weapons, where are the deployable barb wires? the tire busters? Does BIS really feel this is such a "military only" feature to be able to fortify a command post?

-The Mission editor is a joke, it hasn't changed since the OFP days, there is still no unscripted way to setup the initial height position of an unit, nor is there a decent interface to customise soldier loadout and cargo content for vehicles and crates, which is the most basic thing someone making his first mission will want to do.

Now i've been a good customer, i supported this company, i bought every damn version of the game (minus the VBS serie) because i was believing that in the long term this would become the perfect milsim FPS.

I do hope the community will remember it when your new game comes out.

Oh, here we go again...

VBS2 is a completely different product, made by different developers (BIA, not BIS) for different customers (military, not gamers). There is nothing logical about VBS2 features getting ported to Arma2, or a potential Arma3 for that matter.

As for your points:

-We are still waiting for behing able to use personal weapons in vehicles (no i'm sorry it can't be THAT complex to implement, vehicles have working turrets since the OFP days)

It has been requested by many people (including myself), they said they would consider it, but as of yet it is not in the game. Tough luck.

-The ability to pick things up: currently the world is static, we can't even pick up a few oildrums to build a makeshift cover or a traffic cones to build a checkpoint.

With a bit of scripting, that would be no problem.

-Granted we now have deployable tripod mounted weapons, where are the deployable barb wires? the tire busters? Does BIS really feel this is such a "military only" feature to be able to fortify a command post?

Again, scripting.

Some features could surely be added to enhance its usability, but calling it a joke is a bit over the top, considering what has been made with it in the past decade.

Announcement? Article? Anything?

So the idea is that it's okay to make a game where everything has to be done by the fans?

As for the editor, when i was making missions i know that my best editing tool was notepad++, i would go in the actual ingame editor only to test my mission pr add/remove an object.

The mission editor as it is is pretty much a glorified "unit placer"

Let's conveniently forget triggers, and more recently modules. It's way better to treat BI's work as shit and state it is a unit placer ....

Would I be them, I'd close down BI, get the staff onto BIA/BISim, and begone with whiners, who will incidentally be super happy BI finally listened to them :D

Moderation in your requests, is that too much to ask?

Would you prefer if the game wasn't moddable and came without a mission editor? That would be cool, right? Because then the fans wouldn't have to make anything! Yay!

You probably haven't noticed, but if you look on the right side in the editor, there are also buttons for placing groups, waypoints and triggers, synchronization, markers and modules. You should try it, and then think about it some more, then finally form a decent opinion.

I dabble in the map editor sinc ethe OFP day, i know about the triggers, markers waytpoint and all, it still remains someone's very simplistic vision of a mission editor when most of the work has to be done outside of it.

Being the geek that I am, I'm super happy BI give the tool in scripting format rather than mouse-only, as it gives me far more flexibility.

I can understand asking for some easiness extensions. Like your height thing, or a loadout window for units from within the editor

But complaining about scripting? LOL

Where do you see me complain about scripting?

My only complain is that everything absolutely has to be done through scripting in this editor, even the most trivial things.

So you hide a lot of trolling and complaining in the pretense of asking a question, or am I missing something here? Anyways this seems to be no different from the existing feedback/discussion/impressions threads which are all pinned.
