No wonder I have to restart so often! -Doc ---------- Post added at 06:38 ---------- Previous post was at 05:45 ---------- Saw this while walking to the grocery store. :-) http://imgur.com/UVykgnh

For the most part, it's not that big of a deal, but I have my little outbursts when I'm mad at the time ... not my finest behavior. I will play again for sure ... does 1.61 work ok with the new update, or should I wait for a bit? - Doc

Well, it's been nice. I'm sorry that I was never able to finish this mission, but with countless hours into it and Steam forcing a game update down my throat, I just lost that save game as well. I'm not going to try it again, but not because of the mission itself ... the mission is great. Every update to the game breaking the save games is expected ... the 'retail store' that I bought the game from defaulting to forcing updates on me is absolutely insane. Yes, I know I can shut off auto updates on games .... now. I did not know that they set that as the default though. Absolutely crazy that it does not default to simply notifying you of updates and letting you chose when to install them. If they were an actual store I could walk into, I'd be there demanding my money back for the game right now. Sorry to vent ... what I wrote was by far the nice version of what I want to write. All the same, thanks for the great mission. It was great while it lasted! -Doc EDIT: I'll get over it and try again someday. :-)

A game update today? I'm definitely skipping it until I finish this round of Pilgrimage; I've already restarted it three times, have never finished it, and have checked about 130 locations so far. I want to keep playing the mission, but not quite enough to start it over again any time soon. :-) - Doc

I too like the idea of having a few heavily-guarded areas. Perhaps as a startup option. Since commandeering a mobile artillery piece, I did have some easy fun shelling a few areas before going in, but for the most part I am already having an easy (but fun) enough time in the Marshal that I found. I go hunting for camps in the NW at night so I can rearm it from time to time. Every time I find a Church, I think, "I hope the body isn't here ... I don't want to be done yet."

Still doing well with X2 ... no issues that I've noticed. Thanks, - Doc

I've been able to put in several hours with X2 and have not had any of my original issues with loot not spawning, churches not being marked as checked, etc. Performance seems stable, and the values in the side chat have not changed much. The only drawback to the side chat for me missing opportunities to purchase intel: When I am in a vehicle, the incoming message sound does not play, so those intel-for-sale opportunities often go by unnoticed unless I happen to see one, or see the 'no longer available' message. Is there a way to disable those side-chats for the duration of the game? (I'm assuming it's just a bit of code that could be commented out in one of the scripts?) I've got everything on 100%, no companion, multiple camps enabled, and I have had no CPU-related issues such as AI diapering or anything like that. The new chip seems to handle the workload just fine. I am going to finish the game with X2 and call it good ... I've restarted several times with version upgrades, and I'm afraid that another restart will just be frustrating at this point. I'm really enjoying the stability of this version. Thank you for all of the work you've put into this! -Doc

Excellent! I work until late this evening, but will try to get a new game started and put 2-3 hours into it. I'll post my results! Thanks again, - Doc

I hadn't noted the loging info as I thought those were only expected to change over time in the mission, and I didn't have time to play at all last night. Sorry about that! Are you wanting to just keep an eye on the average for both stats? I can probably put a couple hours or so in tonight. Thanks for confirming that the FPS drop is expected (to that extent) in missions. I figured there would be some, but had no idea of how much of a drop to expect. -Doc

Performance testing: I understand that there is a massive difference between these missions, but this is what I thought of to test. I am only presenting the info in hopes that it's useful! Hardware: i7 970 @ 4.2GHz 2xGTX580 SLI 2560x1600 Software: ARMA III - Current Steam version Mods - None Pilgrimage versions tested: 1.4 & 1.51 (results were more or less the same with both) Test 1 - Mission: Infantry mission from Showcases - FPS at starting point: 53 - FPS in empty mission at same starting point: 60 Test 2 - Mission: Pilgrimage 1.4 & 1.51 - FPS at starting point: 30 - FPS in empty mission at same starting point: 60 (no mist) Test 3 Mission: PilgrimageX - FPS with settings at 100%: 37 - FPS with settings at 50%: 45 - FPS in empty mission at same starting point: 74 (no mist) I'm not able to do any real play testing tonight though, so I don't know how things will look over time. - Doc Unrelated note about my past playing: Regarding loot boxes, I never left any behind - I would sell all of them as I moved along, so I think they were not accumulating which may explain why my performance never worsens over time in the mission.

Performance observations: I apologize for not noticing this earlier, but your mission is just about the only one I've spent any time with since buying the game. I've been telling you in this thread that I am not having any performance issues, and what I've meant is that the FPS that I get during the mission is pretty steady, other than slight differences based on the map itself. However, I just tested by starting a new mission in 1.51, walking into the woods, and noting the FPS. (Right around 30 FPS) I then created an empty mission and placed myself in the exact same location and tested again: steady at 60 FPS, so double the FPS in the empty mission. I don't know what is expected for FPS change in a mission, so I don't know if that's a big impact, or normal. My CPU is an i7 970 running @ 4.2GHz. I hope that info is of use! I have not tried the test build yet as I am still at work. (just snuck a quick test during a break) I will try the same test with 1.41 as well. - Doc

I will try this tonight ... I am working for another 5-7 hours today.

I hung out near a mising vehicle for about 30 min. No joy. -Doc

I know how frustrating that can be. I worked as a software tester for years and many times heard the devs say, "Well, it works on my machine." :-) So many little variables to try to track down ... it's a lot of work! Thank you again for looking into these things for us. I just went back into my game and went to look for a previously spawned vehicle. It was gone. So I went to try to find two more. Both gone as well. I hope that helps as a clue! -Doc

Hello, I have 26 auto-marked churches and then it stopped doing that. I forgot to mention that I am also not seeing anymore loot markers. I have not noticed any previous items missing, but it may simply be that I have not noticed it yet. I am running an i7 970 OC'd to 4.4GHz. I have only noticed lag once when looking over a large town, so it could have simply been my system not keeping up with my graphics settings on that part of the map. There may have been other moments here and there, but I don't remember with enough certainty to say. I am not playing with any mods ... just the clean, latest version of the game from Steam, and the 1.51 mod downloaded from dropbox. Thanks for looking into it! -Doc EDIT: May be unrelated, but I very thoroughly traveled the area I was in and never saw any camps. A few times I saw 2-3 men sitting around on the ground, but there was no actual camp.

I have an odd issue ... Churches/Chapels stopped auto-saving and being marked as searched ... a while later I noticed that I am also no longer receiving messages to purchase intel. It almost seems as though the code that runs every 10 seconds or whatever has stopped doing so? Not a big deal as I am still having fun and manually marking the places I've searched, but I wonder if I will find the body? - Doc

Excellent. When I started over for 1.4, 1.41 came out right on it's heels (sign of a good developer keeping is code up to date!), so I may wait a day or two just in case. I'm looking forward to it!

Hello, I'm looking forward to this! I had started over and put about three long evening into 1.4, and then of course the ARAM update broke all of those saved games, so I will be starting over again. Before doing so, I wanted to ask if you have an idea of when 1.5 might come out because I will probably wait for that. I don't think I have it in my to start over too many more times! :-) Thank you for all of your hard work on this great mission! -Doc
-
In the end, I did decide to restart since it starts in a random place now ... that way I don't have to reply the same part of the map that I've already done until much later. :-) The gameplay has definitely changed with more enemy! Previously I would drive around rather freely, stopping ahead of small towns to run up a hill and scope things out before driving in. Now I have to drive around in a stronger vehicle because I come under fire much more often. I like it! I've had to change my tactics. I like the changes for 1.4. Thank you for putting the time into it! EDIT: Two things that I forgot to mention: I have not tested against the regular missions, but I've noticed that my FPS dropped quite a bit with this version. However, I think that is due to being in an area with many more trees, so it's probably just related to the map. I will hitchhike to an area that I was in during 1.3 and compare. Secondly, I have been very careful to clear areas around churches/chapels because I don't know if the autosave first checks to see if there is imminent danger nearby before it saves. If it does not, that's perfectly fine, so I'm just careful before I check out the building. - Doc

Thank you for the quick reply! The cargo issue is very frustrating ... an odd oversight, IMO. Thank you for clarifying for me. Also, thank you for letting me know about where to look for instructions on fast travel. That reminded me of a question that I forgot to ask, but I suspect the answer is also in the diary, so I will try to solve it myself. (how to sell things) As for the upgrade, I'm far enough into the mission that I think I will simply complete 1.3 and call it good; I'm a bit too far in to want to start again, but I cannot play for a few days, so if 1.4 comes out and it looks like there are enough changes to be tempting, then perhaps I will try it. I would LOVE to be able to jump forward in time ("sleep") so that I can choose the time of day that I do certain things. Best regards, -Doc EDIT: I did not understand how to sell things ... I did see the section in the diary. Any help would be appreciated! (Didn't find anything searching the forum, but that could have been a poor job searching.)

Hello! I too wish to thank you for this great SP mission; this is exactly the type of thing that I enjoy. I am also new to ARMA, so I've learned most of how to play the game while playing this mission. I have a few questions, and some may be ARMA related in general, but they are aspects that I use in the mission. 1. Can I upgrade the mission by replacing the PBO file with the newer one, and do so without messing up my saved game? 2. Is there a how-to for fast travel and changing mission options? 3. This is probably just a general ARMA question, but I can only find answers that have to do with mission scripting instead of the behavior in-game: How do I get a truck to hold a realistic amount of cargo? I am driving around in a huge truck and can't even add another magazine to the cargo. Is this just an oversight on the game developers? I see that the capacity is tons of weapons and magazines, but I have maybe three weapons, some magazines, and a few odds and ends, and the massive truck is apparently "full" now. Thanks again for the mission, and for your time in the forum helping us out! - Doc
