Question about "MouseButtonDown", BIS please fix this !!!
7mary3 replied to gizz46's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I've had problems with trying to change the mouse in other games as well. I was told on one that the mouse was "hardcoded in" and really couldn't be changed. This might be a similar situation. -
Yeah, it looks like a trainer. Removed!! Important rule for you:

Yeah, BIS tracker = Steam Arma 3 forum's Trash Bin. Or as I like to call it, "The Pile of Perpetual Ignorage". I lost faith in BIS a long time ago. Now, I just have hopes for the community doing what they can.

Well, the rounds are longer than normal 30mm say like on the Black Sharks 2A42 30mm autocannon. In other words, they have more punch. And its 4 rounds depleted uranium then one round HE (Combat Mix). The round can only pierce about 100mm RHA. We've had long talks about this on the DCS forums. Seems the real A-10 pilots aren't really sure about where one of those rounds can pierce a tank except on the top ( or they're not talking :) ). A lot of tanks RHA values are still guesses at best. Most say its just a disability kill. The very back of the tank ( engine ) would be most vulnerable. In DCS ( A-10C Warthog ) if you hit a tank with a 1 second burst, that tanks probably toast. But I think DCS just uses a hit point system as well. Now the GAU-8 will penetrate most APC's, because their armor is less than 100mm RHA. And sorry to tell you, but the only armor on the A-10 is the cockpit ( protection up to 23mm ) and I think lesser armor on the engine cowlings ( though it never seems to save me ). Probably only kevlar good against 7.62. If you get hit with an Igla or Stinger in the engine, its toast. Most of the rest of the aircraft can take hits, because its all fuel and empty shell. The fuel tanks are self sealing and designed to take fire ( not sure exactly how, I think its in the manual ). As for weight, most of its from the gun and weapons, though I have managed to fly back to base once with a shattered rudder and half of one of the wings shot off. DCS does a great simulation of the aircraft. If you want to know about the A-10C, you should talk to some of the real pilots on the DCS forums. I think Paul Kirri ( one of the mods ) is a RL A-10C pilot. If you want to learn about flying, I highly recommend DCS: (Insert Aircraft).

Well, the A-10 fires at something like 80 rounds a second, and puts down a "cloud" of bullets about 20 feet in radius. Most MBT's have weak top armor of a little over 100mm RHA. So you've got definite engine kill, messed up tracks, dead periscopes, main gun, external machine guns, and usually penetration of the tank in multiple places. Its been talked to death on the DCS forums and I'm still not sure if there is crew kill or not. The people who know have been kind of vague on it. Probably dead driver. Maybe back turret penetration. I would think the side would be too strong. The round is like a "magnum" version of the 30mm, having more power than most 30mm's due to longer casing and longer gun barrels. At least, that's what I can see. ---------- Post added at 03:20 ---------- Previous post was at 03:17 ----------

I know that there are only like 10 of us left posting here, but anyone working on smaller maps? It would be interesting to see how CQB plays with this player model ( whether he's still too stiff or not ).

There was Infiltration! One of the first fps games I ever played online that aimed towards realism. Notice the one shot kills. People getting hit in the neck and head by an assault rifle usually don't get back up. :) Beginnings a little boring, scroll past about 2 1/2 minutes. What are your thoughts about maps like this in Arma? Some smaller ones like these would help to ease the server load, appease the CQB types, and might bring in some Battlefield / COD types who want more realism. Would love to see the new penetration system at work here. Maybe even an AH-6 Little Bird sitting on a pad. I would love to try to make a map like this, but I'm just not that good at it.

Ka-ching! Yeah, go on the DCS forums, and I bet no ones ever heard of it. Why the hell would it be around in 2035?

The last game I played like that was Inf. But it never seemed that popular. Of course, you can tell by the forums that this game is already pretty much dying. By the time anyone get anything really implemented, its going to be like the old A2. Just a few of us left. Of course, there were just a few of us in Inf as well. I can't believe that out of all the old mods, Urban Terror 4, with its now cheesy bright jump suits, and unrealistic sliding, is the one that is still around and kicking. Go figure! :j:
-
Bingo. As for people saying its slow, its faster than the A-10. If you want real fighters, you need F-15, F-16, F-18,Su-27,Mig-29. I know people don't want to learn how to fly the real planes in DCS:X, but flaming cliffs 3 like planes would be interesting in Arma 3. The ones we have now feel like they're dangled from a string.

Yeah, even in Arma 3 MP, I still see people suicide run on a target with something like an armed heli doing as much damage as they can, get killed because they were careless with the life, then respawn a minute later and go do it again. In Infiltration, if we respawned, I think the max was 3 times. This made for longer games, but if you did stupid things, you were going to have wait a long time till the next map. Then there were the one lifers, which were short but interesting. I think 3 respawns max is a good compromise to keep a game going, without the "suiciders" ruining everything. I have to rely on my memories of Inf, because I never played much A2 MP. It was just too vanilla for me. I'm an ACE fan, and it was rarely played online when I had the time.

Actually, I thought some of the scenarios on Arma 2 like "Sqaud Leader" where you assault the small village were pretty good. The road block made of the pile of garbage and old stoves and refrigerators was pretty neat, and gave it some character. The "scenarios" in Arma 3 are nothing like that. They seem thrown together at the last minute.

Lol, why, you the Fanboy Gestapo? That supposed to be some kind of thinly veiled threat? From your posts, you seem like your a member of the BIS secret police, maybe even a little brainwashed. Payed troll? I get the feeling your one of those people who think they own the forum. 1600 posts in 8 months? That must be some kind of record. Back on Topic. ---------- Post added at 18:43 ---------- Previous post was at 18:36 ---------- LOL, :) about the way it feels on here sometimes.

Yes, and that's the huge problem with mods on MP. Unless the server admin wants it to add it to the game, you can't have it. Most servers are very vanilla. ---------- Post added at 17:26 ---------- Previous post was at 17:25 ---------- Check out my "Before there was Arma thread".

Personally, I wish they would just ditch the ancient Arma engine and move to Outerra. It would be starting over in some respects, but they would still have their art assets. I bet they could make a good deal with the Outerra people who would probably be happy to have them. *me dives for cover!

That's what I like about Infiltration, and what eventually brought me into Arma. There wasn't a bunch of run and gun. Everyone used careful tactics, and there was actual trees and grass to hide in. Some missions were at night. Maps were realistic and not sci-fi crap. We got iron sights and red dot scopes, and weapons felt a lot more real. As for whether OFP or Inf came first, UT came out in 1999. Not exactly sure when Inf was made, but I think it was probably a year or so before OFP. So really close. I didn't hear about OFP till much later. Probably because I was more interested in CQB and Urban maps. Have to see if abandonia has Marble Madness. :p

As many people have pointed out, Arma is a sandbox. It doesn't mean you have to have big islands. When I was playing infiltration, we always wanted to bring in tanks and heli's for some maps, but didn't have the resources. Now Arma has that, with some decent graphics, so it would be interesting to make some Inf style maps and see how they play. Besides, the servers seem to be having problems with the large maps, especially Altis. Bigger Battlefield maps ( like Urban ) would be interesting as well. As for Arctic, it wouldn't have to be big at all ( unless you want vehicles ). Infantry only maps could be small. ---------- Post added at 05:26 ---------- Previous post was at 05:20 ---------- Yeah, I've just managed to explore the edges of Altis and a few of the towns. A lot I probably haven't discovered yet. But it still all looks a little barren to me. Inf has some interesting features and I hope some of the modders take a look at it. Wish I could get some of the modders from there to come over here, but I think they've all disappeared into real life. Well, that and a few of them have made their own company it looks like (Black Foot Studios ). I just miss maps that were kind of mission specific ( like Heskey GateHouse - Capture the CD ).

Yeah, there are a few places that are somewhat ok, but they still kinda lack. A few people on Steam have given their opinion that the Island is "boring". I'm sure they're the ones looking for more CQB like maps and also more varied places ( urban, arctic, jungle, etc ). The Island's ok if your into tank and jet warfare, but there's little cover and little variation. I'm thinking smaller maps might help with the MP ( low fps ) server problems. Of course, like you said, you could just put some new building down on the island, which would probably be a lot simpler. Not worried about zone restriction. I just thought Infiltration would be a nice example. Wish I could find some better video of some better maps ( the one with the ice station in Antarctica was nice ). It would be really cool in Arma 3! You can use Noesis to lift meshes out of Quake 3 and its mods, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be able to work with Unreal Tournament. I don't think any of the old mappers would mind, they've all long disappeared into the sunset. ---------- Post added at 03:44 ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 ---------- Try Inf before you knock it. I remember SpecOps, but never played it. One of our players was a retired navy seal (Bushwhack) and he really liked it. Probably the closest game to Arma ever made. Galzohar and Zeep are also old Inf players. Probably a few others on here as well who took different names. LOL, Operation Wolf its definitely not. Don't let the old graphics fool you. Anyway, we have the Arma troops which are pretty much like the Inf troops. I was just using Inf as example of the intricate maps ( there's better ones than the one shown on the video, its just that the game is pre-youtube, and therefore hard to find videos of ). Heskey Gatehouse and Chemical Threat would be awesome maps to port to Arma. Maybe made a little bigger. Any of you Arma modders want to make some small CQB maps of Urban, Jungle, Arctic, etc ( Battlefield size? ), it would be appreciated. The rocky desert gets a little old after a while.

Mmm, it would be nice to have vehicle interiors again, like in Arma 2's BMP-3. Where your character is put in a certain position, and you can move your head to see through the view ports. But this is a nice compromise for now.

please BIS give us the english units in the editor as a fraction !

Can we get John Cleese to voice act? -
Lol, whats your case? I'm an Arma 2 vet of many years. I've had many names on this forum. I'm sure there are plenty of other vets like me on these very volatile forums.

You guys should try in the infiltration mod ( If you can find a copy of Unreal Tournament ). They had a lot arma like ideas, like letting recoil kick your gun up. You had to control it with mouse by shooting and coming down with the mouse on full auto. Made firing the AKMSU on full auto real fun. The game's pretty dead now, but its got some examples of realism I wouldn't mind seeing in Arma. I really liked how grenades were thrown. And the gun blast sounds were pretty good. infiltration.sentrystudios.net

I doubt if there are many 300 pound muscle guys around. Recoil should fit the average human. We had an ex-navy seal playing in Infiltration. That game has some decent recoil, and he never complained. He just killed all of us! :p
