Help a noob with some alarms and ladders

Section 1. Alarm. how do I create an alarm the can be triggered by a player use a click [scroll wheel menu or command menu.. whatever its called] Section 2. Ladders. All the ladders in the 3d editor either do not work or turn the animation 90 degrees. I know there is a way to defeat this one cant find it.
