    Community Voice Dubbing

Anthony - thanks man! That's great! If you fancy one more - it'd be great to get lef-ten-ant (British pronunciation) rather than lieu-ten-ant :)! If not, no worries! Thanks! ---------- Post added at 22:41 ---------- Previous post was at 22:20 ---------- Feel really bad nit-picking :p Sorry, major perfectionist here!

Yeah - I've sort of got a template for Stratis sorted. Haven't uploaded onto Armaholic yet. Still a few buildings to sort out (I'm still holding out on content!). Also, been busy with the mission making - really, really psyched. Half way through doing the voice dubbing. There's Farsi, a little Greek, and tonnes of sound effects. Got quite a few new User Textures in too - ranging from scattered pages from a ripped up bible in Greek to documents and polaroids. Sort of going for crazy detail! Got some new uniforms and vehicle textures as well.
  3. Heyup all - need a couple of lines in English with an English / Welsh / or Scottish accent: if you're interested - pm me or add me as a friend on Steam and drop is a line.

1.Download a suitable program for creating images in. I used Paint.net. The program can be downloaded from here: http://www.getpaint.net/download.html. 2. Find or create the text you wish to use in-game. A simple Google image search for ‘Grafitti, PNG’ ought to do the trick. 3. In your image editing program, ensure that your background is transparent. In Paint.net, highlight the canvas and delete it. Then paste or create your text. If you are pasting an image from an internet source, be certain that it has a transparent background. PNG formats are a good bet for this, and you’ll know if the background’s transparent or not because of the grey and white squares. 4. Now that you have your image on a transparent canvas, set the layer transparency. This involves a bit of trial and error, but I’ve found that anything between 30%-50% transparency works well. 5. Okay, next, we want to get rid of those stark colours in your text. In-game, they won’t look right. Best thing to do is to go to ‘adjustments’ (on Paint.net) and fiddle with the hue/saturation settings. Lower the saturation level so your image looks less vibrant. You should avoid having jet black or solid colours in your text – it’s best to go for off-whites, dark greys, etc. 6. As an added option, you may like to add some noise. Go to ‘effects’ (on Paint.net), select ‘Noise’ and then ‘add Noise’. Take the colour saturation slider down to 0 and set the noise intensity to somewhere between 15 and 25. A word of caution though, sometimes noise can produce strange effects in your text when it is viewed through night vision goggles in-game. A little noise, however, won’t cause any problems. 7. Once you have finished editing the text you wish to use, save the image in a 512x512, 1024x1024, or 2048x2048 resolution. For extra detail, you may want to resort to the maximum 4096x4096 – the limit supported in ArmA3. Bear in mind, that if you want to make your text fairly large in-game, you’ll need to use the 10M User Texture. For grafitti texts, an image that takes up about one forth of the length of the canvas is about right. 8. Save your text image as a TGA or PNG. 9. Open the text image with BI’s Texview 2. This is a part of the BI Tools package, which can be downloaded at: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6820. 10. In Textview 2, leave the top left setting at its default ‘RGBA’ and select ‘DXT 5’ from the dropdown box below. Save your image in Textview 2. 11. So okay, you have your text image in a new .paa file – good stuff. To finish, all you need to do, is place the .paa into your mission folder, go into the ArmA3 Editor, open your mission, place a User Texture – 5M if you want something poster size, 10M if you want something billboard size, and type in the object’s Init. box: This setobjecttexture [0, “Name_of_your_Image_Here.paaâ€]; That ought to do it! All you need to do now is spend a while lining the object up with a wall. An unflinching mouse-hand and a lot of patience are required here – good luck!

    Community Voice Dubbing

Looking for a British accented speaker now - two lines of dialogue for a pilot. Here's the script: . Obviously, if you're interested in dubbing this, don't 'yell' too close to the microphone. Also, let's not forget - lieutenant's pronounced 'leftenant' here in England :p Looking forward to some interesting responses. Full credits will be given, of course. Feel free to contact me - or add me as a friend on Steam, or whatever.
  6. So, I'm looking to do some serious re-texturing on the Arma 3 armoured vehicles. Can somebody inform me, or send me a link, or get me a picture of tank markings - specifically NATO tanks? I'm not sure what all those numbers mean, nor am I sure how NATO armoured units differ from other armies. If at all possible, does some bright spark know how the NATO Reaction Force mark their armoured vehicles? Cheers! ---------- Post added at 21:57 ---------- Previous post was at 21:45 ---------- This is what I've worked out so far: a lot of MBT's use chevrons facing in different directions to indicate their company number. They also sometimes have a letter to represent "Alpha", "Bravo", etc. As well, many bear numbers to indicate the platoon and squad number. There's a digit for the battalion too. Is this true for NATO tanks? And where are these markings located? On the both sides of the hull? The turret? Any help with all this would be appreciated - and good to hear from a personal interest too!
  7. Interesting tutorial - and I see that the digital suffix (e.g. 'John Rayner 1') is an insurmountable problem at present. Least I know it is a limitation. Kinda feel better about it all now! :p
  8. Ah thanks man! I'll certainly have a look! Thanks ever so much for your advice!
  9. Thanks ever so much Pete - I think I'm going to stick with the limitations on the Radio Chat module. To be fair, I've viewed the showcases and, from the Night showcase, I could see that they still only have 'Driver' on the vehiclechat, and most of the other conversations are conducted through the sidechat. I'm going for professionalism here, so if BI do it that way, guess it'll be good enough for me. Shame I can't get the names in different colours though - that'd be awesome. Anyway, I might take you up on that offer for assistance in the future - when I'm feeling brave! :p Again, thanks ever so much for your help - it's hugely appreciated!
  10. Man - that's well above me! Thank you Pete, but, I'm not sure if I can handle that! :p I'll give it a go!
  11. No worries mate! :) I wonder how BI did it in the showcases? Maybe it's hard coded?
  12. Don't suppose anybody knows if there's a way to make it so that custom voices being played sound the same in first and third person in helicopters? At the moment, if you play a sound in a helicopter, it's really loud outside the vehicle, and almost silent within!
  13. Here we go - vote this up http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=15552
  14. Blackburn - thank you for your reply (I DO appreciate it!) but - that command doesn't work in relation to my question - sorry! :p As I said above, I'm trying to get rid of the number digit on Commandchat, the BLUEFOR callsign on globalchat, and the "pilot" or "diver" tag on Vehiclechat. Sidechat is fine. No problems there. Again, I appreciate your response - thank you. Does anybody know how to sort this issue? SetgroupID is REALLY limited!
  15. Does anybody know then, how to change callsigns so you can get rid of the number suffix? (command channel) Or the 'BLUFOR' (global channel)? Or how to make Groupchat appear for a unit speaking that's not in your group? ---------- Post added at 08:44 ---------- Previous post was at 08:06 ---------- Also, with vehiclechat, I'm getting 'Pilot' as the callsign, even though I've set the groupID to something else. So I can change the colour, but not the name. Or in sidechat, I can change the name but not the colour.
  16. Heya - no doubt a really simple one, but I was wondering how I set the colour for the subtitles in the sidechat? I found this command _group1 setGroupId ["Delta","GroupColor4"], but it doesn't seem to work. Guess it's because it's old. Any ideas?
  17. Tried those, I'm afraid! No joy! ---------- Post added at 08:13 ---------- Previous post was at 08:04 ---------- I've only found one way, and that's by switching to an 'internal' camera. But I don't really want to do that! I'd rather like keeping the third person, to show off my re-textured helicopter :p
  18. Heya 2nd Ranger! That's great, I only want to change the colour of the speaker! But I couldn't get the chat commands to work. I'm following Kylania's demo. I have this in a script: Contact Sidechat localize "STR_ANIKETOS_SUBTITLE"; but when I change sidechat to globalchat or what not, it doesn't show up... ---------- Post added at 17:50 ---------- Previous post was at 17:49 ---------- It's probably quite simple, but I haven't quite got the hang of it yet. It works okay for the light blue colour on the name. But I'd like to change it to green and yellow for other speakers. ---------- Post added at 18:23 ---------- Previous post was at 17:50 ---------- I found quite a few threads - mostly Arma2 related - on sidechat, globalchat, groupchat. Don't know if I'm over tired or just being plain old stupid, but I can't quite work it out. Basically, I've got a stringtable and I've set a unit's id. No probs there, all good. I can get this to work: Contact Sidechat localize "STR_ANIKETOS_SUBTITLE"; - but I can't get something like this to work: Contact Groupchat localize "STR_ANIKETOS_SUBTITLE"; - not sure why? ---------- Post added at 18:26 ---------- Previous post was at 18:23 ---------- Okay - might be getting somewhere now. I put finishMissionInit; showChat true; into the init.sqf. and now I'm seeing the GlobalChat - but, instead of the unit's name (set with the groupID) I'm getting BLUFOR ... ---------- Post added at 18:31 ---------- Previous post was at 18:26 ---------- Mmm... but still having nothing coming up for groupchat. ---------- Post added at 18:44 ---------- Previous post was at 18:31 ---------- And on commandchat I'm getting the correct colour and unit name coming up, but with the unit number suffix too! E.g. John Doe 1 instead of John Doe ---------- Post added at 18:56 ---------- Previous post was at 18:44 ---------- I've now also tried the radio chat modules. They'd be fine, except I get BLUFOR coming up for global, and a number suffix on Command. I'd rather do it via a script if I can, though.
  19. I've also tried using the customchat command, Unit customchat [1, "message"]; but that doesn't appear to work either. Just can't seem to get that colour changed!
  20. I've now tried this setgroupid ["<t color=#4DD6B4'>John Doe:</t&gt]; but that doesn't work either. I reckon if I put it in the description.ext it'll just show the text and not the name in that colour. Any solutions anybody? Always seems like the simplest things are the hardest to do!
  21. Oh - it's obsolete apparently. Does anybody know how you can change it then? ---------- Post added at 22:28 ---------- Previous post was at 22:14 ---------- Think this might sort me out: http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=14027

  23. Ah, brilliant Cobra thanks. Just need to write the colour then? :) Cool! I'll give that a bash!

Thanks for responses everyone. Can't believe there's no easy solution. Didn't really want to resort to a mod. I was thinking about adding a group member as a group leader and then hiding him away somewhere on the map. Would that work? Would radio messages filter only through the group leader, I wonder?

Just wait to you hear all the audio work I'm doing! :p very excited. I've got everything from distant fog horns to ambient Farsi chatter! Also in need of voice actors. English accents, in addition to my own, would be welcomed! Just hope people enjoy the finished product half as much as I've enjoyed making it!
