  2. Unfortunately, its not just island life, but all life servers. Life servers are just more popular then wasteland, and just behind dayZ, they've been around for a long time and are now about to get bigger. Takistan life has the most players of all ArmA II OA servers excluding dayZ. Donations are a key habit to life servers now, and so are the rewards. Its just the beginning my friend. :(

  3. A donation = giving money for a cause with the intention of supporting something. Most donations are free.

Let me start off by saying I'm an Island life kind of guy, I play lots and lots of Island life. Island life is a mod for Arma II/III btw. Pretty much all these servers have a donation thing going on, and some of these donations are asked for ingame by text that appears on the screen when you spawn in.

Now, I don't think it takes that much money to run an ArmA server, so I think its not really necessary. Still not really the problem. The problem is the ingame rewards.

The donator shop for instance, where you can spend ingame currency for unfair advantages and cooler items that only donators can access. Some servers give you lots of in game currency, and others will give you a house or somewhere unique to spawn in.

This is where I see the problem.

Getting ingame stuff when you send money to these Island Life communitys is not donating, its pay to play. When ever I go on an island life server, I swear a third of everyone is a donator, these guys must be making tons of money.

There basically charging people for extra stuff, and as far as I'm concerned, that isn't legal, is it?

If this isn't legal, then these servers must be taken down, its not right, they don't deserve to be making money just for hosting a modification that 90% didn't even create, just host.

  4. Ok so I have decided to have a textured box to be my first thing I get in the game because that's probably as far as I can get right now. Getting the model in oxygen2 was not a problem for me, the textures were, at first it said undefined, then I played with the settings and my textures appeared only to be black. I changed the texture from JPG to PAA before I textured them on the model so I wouldn't have to change them afterwards. If anyone has any answers, please share them.

  5. After trying too many times, it is simply impossible for me to make a basic map. All this text, I don't understand what it wants. I only got as far as the videos showed me. I cannot learn anything this complicated unless I see it in a video. Every single text tutorial is a different method in some small way.

So, I have everything set up, and everything in the right folders. I thought getting the heightmap into visitor was impossible, that is when I got to the texturing. Sat_LCO was easy. I have little idea on how mask_lco works. Something about rgb, and it says I can have 4 textures to start with when there is only an R, G B. That is 3 letters, how can I mask 4 separate textures with 3 different colors. Do I mask the water? What color is the backround? Then came some map_legend thing witch gives me a picture with different colors on it. What does that have to do with anything? Then you need some 4 default colors from a sample map called nohq and stuff. No idea what they are for. I do not even know what they stand for. Then right before I thought getting past all this unessessary stuff was over, I had to have rvmats and put pictures separating the mask and the sat image into 100 different little squares. WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING! Then you need a config folder and you have to put some color data in or something. Its a color, what should I possibly put in? I import sat and mask, then I launch bulldozer and what do you know, everything just crashes. Not like I hadn't expected that, I knew I was doing everything the wrong way all along.

Its been since February that I got these tools and now I forgot everything. I am still a beginner. We need a video tutorial. There would be so much more maps and creative ideas if there was a complete tutorial on the web. My buldozer and tools are set up the right way, but until someone releases a video, only the smartest people can create maps.

  6. I am creating a SCUBA diving mod for ARMA III that I hope to be finished before the game is finished. So far all I have planned is too make scuba gear, goggles, and a wetsuit for the civilian class. This is my first mod so it isn't going to be 100 percent perfect. The point of this thread is to keep statues on the mod and to receive helpful ideas. If you have an idea feel free to share it. Below is an image of what I have so far.
