There are no disadvantages, thats just an arcade balance technique common in non realistic shooters. There shouldn't be a downside. I like ARMA's approach where you get to use anything you want to get the job done. If you want to be loud then go ahead and be loud.

Wasnt fun at all, nothing to do. Spawned and got in a pistol fight and that was it.

Whats the fun of 404 wasteland? I don't get it. I just spawn and have a 10% chance of getting into a stupid pistol firefight on the side of a hill. I've never really had "fun" in it or seen anyone else have fun. Yet the majority of servers are 404 wasteland... am I missing something? -

Laying down or using the grass as cover feels really effective at first, and then I remember what other people are seeing me as.... A guy laying on playstation 2 quality terrain with some scattered bushes. I understand there needs to be LOD for performance, and while I do think the medium distance textures completely ruin the quality of the game thats not really what this thread is about. Would it be possible to render the grass cards where the (sniper) scope is being aimed? Maybe even with super low quality shadows? Basically like where your crosshair points at the terrain, there would be a radius around that point that does render grass. Edit: Nevermind, maturin makes a good point. But distance fighting is still a problem Oh and will there be ghillie suits? If so this idea would help greatly :) otherwise you just look like a wookie laying on smeared green colors -
They don't look skinny. Strength and size are only loosely related. Only some soldiers weight train, the rest are conditioned for their job (which doesn't require them to be big)
