  1. Why would you turn the HUD reticule off? I've got a pretty good feel for the center of my screen, but I don't see the disadvantage to having it on. I'm honestly asking. I didn't play Arma 2 for more than a few hours.

    PlanetSide 2

PS2 was such a let down. I let the awesome community interaction by the devs fool me in to thinking SOE wasn't going to rush a half-assed product out the door just to rake in cash. Tech test showed the game had real potential. Then they announced the release date. *shudder* IMHO as a long time vet of the original Planetside the art style is fine, apart from the VS literally being the color of night (just one of many noob mistakes for a "AAA" dev team). The game suffers from short-sighted engine and base design, poor faction balance, worse map flow, and a complete lack of meta game. I mean, I hate to talk shit when I'm not in the biz, but who makes bases with only two entrances when you know there are going to be a few HUNDRED players fighting over those choke points, and that your netcode can only handle like 50? It's like half these guys never worked on a game before. Part of me still holds out hope that in a couple of months it will be worth playing again, but I've been telling my self that since before launch. :(

    Steam discussion

Glad to hear it doesn't happen all the time. Maybe it's just Steam messing with me. It likes to do that. I can't remember the name of it, but I had to manually remove a free weekend game only a couple of months ago. I run WinDirStat on my Steamapps folder every few months (or whenever space is running low) to catch just this kind of thing.
  4. What would be really nice would be if there was a key bind to disable it and re-center your view around your weapon. Then you could use it to quickly clear a corner and toggle it off to "snap" your model to face your reticule.

Can play MP with Alpha Lite?

Game doesn't come out for months yet. Just wait and play with your friends when the game can make a proper first impression. It already makes a good one, but why not wait until it's great? :)

    ARMA III & Steam WORKSHOP

I'm afraid we're already terribly close to that. The Steam community reminds me more of stinkholes like Reddit, 4Chan, and Something Aweful every day. "Want trade hats 4 me?!" "Upboat plx!"

    First person only servers

PlayWithSIX or whatever has announced they'll support Arma 3. I haven't used it, but I assume the included server browser is better than what we have now. I do hope the real built in browser includes a more robust filter system, tho.
  8. You should have read all the posts in the thread before replying to the one that you could flex on. You may notice I already apologized, and said that searching didn't turn up any definitive answers. :) I thought BF3 had issues with hex cores when I last played, but it's been a while so that could have changed or I could just be mistaken. I'm not a computer, unfortunately. Well when I say "Just Fine" I mean average of 50 fps, not shitty FPS that is obviously not fine as you your self pointed out. :j: All these people so eager to "help", yet no one will post a damn benchmark with the new drivers.
  9. Very interesting. Sounds like it's a simple framerate cap and not actually VSync.

It's also worth noting that if you do install a game on a free weekend it doesn't uninstall OR remain in your list once the event ends. Be sure to go in and manually tidy up your Steamapps folder on occasion.
  11. My apologies. I've seen games that Win 7 actually managed to do a decent job of splitting the load on, but I didn't know there were any that properly utilize 6 cores. Do you mind naming a few, just for my own knowledge? A quick Google didn't turn up anything but a bunch of forum posts with people arguing. :)
  12. All too true. Back in my day *feebly shakes a cane at no one in particular* the only reward you got was a feeling of accomplishment for doing well, and that was enough. Games are supposed to be fun because of the gameplay, not due to cheap psychological tricks.

    First person only servers

Keep in mind that most server admins still don't really know what they're doing, and there are a lot of DayZ players basically killing time here until the stand alone is available. My hope and assumption is that the servers will improve with time. In the mean time you probably want to look at the Multiplayer sub-forum, rather than General. Squads is also a good place to look.

    Add the M14 Rogue please!

99% of the stuff you see on the FPSRussia channel has no business being in a game that's shooting for realism. The whole channel is designed to appeal to that certain gaming crowd we all like to make fun of. ;) Half his stuff breaks during filming. Can you imagine taking it in to a combat zone? The M14 Rogue would be good for Halo cosplay. lol

    Battlefield 4

Battlefield. If I don't laugh I'll cry. Thanks for shitting all over my favorite series of all time, EA. I actually bought BF3 for the Xbox and PC. Can't believe I was such a chump. Even though BF3 had some real high points (only a couple, but they were pretty good), the Premium subscription was just too typical of EA's current strategy of "milk em till they bleed". EA's not getting any more of my money (apart from the occasional sale, I'll buy an EA game for $5). They've eschewed quality in favor of nickle and diming their loyal fans until they finally realize they've been duped. They'll get away with it until people stop blindly throwing money at them based purely on the IP they are selling rather than the quality of their games. Hell, they could probably turn a profit purely off the idiots who preorder. Thanks to Bohemia I don't even miss Battlefield any more.
  16. Which would be why I'm asking for actual numbers. Also, you were seeing screen tearing with vsync on? That shouldn't happen unless your FPS is below your monitor's refresh rate. If this is the case you should turn VSync off, otherwise it will actually cause stutter. The CPU issue is not crippling everyone. It seems, at least from what I've seen, that users with Intel chips running at a higher clock speed are able to play just fine. I have customized my settings my GPU is being fully utilized and I get decent FPS (~50). If new drivers mean I can bump one of the options up another notch then I'm interested. If not I'd rather stick with what I've got. No idea why people act shocked by this. There isn't a game out there that benefits from having more than 4 cores, most only utilizing 2.
  17. Screen tearing isn't the same as stutter. Are you saying it reduced screen tearing? Can someone just do an actual benchmark? lol

    Head mounted display

We've had wearable PCs for decades. Whether or not we've made one worth using still remains to be seen.
  19. I don't see why this can't happen. You can already fell trees, and IIRC ACE includes a mechanic for debris damage from penetrating bullets. Someone just needs to slap the two together! Sorry, not trying to call you out specifically but I see this mistake a lot. Physics != PhysX. PhysX is a prepackaged middleware physics engine (or an expansion card if you live in the 2000s), physics are the effects it and other engines are used to generate or emulate. PhysX could be used to describe a feature of the PhysX engine, such as those fancy particle effects they've been showing off in Hawken and Planetside 2, but it's not a catch-all for physics in games. That video is a good example of what isn't PhysX. :)

    Default Keymap

Just go in to the editor, plop down a unit, and hit "Preview". Enjoy the scenery and go through your controls without any worries. You're going to want to change a lot of the default bindings anyways.
  22. Well... If you think it looks good that's fine, but Motion Blur mostly there to hide low FPS. It used to be something only common on cross-platform titles. Then there are effects like DoF that look fantastic for taking screen shots but add little to the experience and can actually hinder you while playing. It's mostly personal preference, and the majority prefer being able to turn it off. The options should never be done this way in the first place unless you think your users are too simple to set up their graphics options on their own. Sure, that's why a lot of titles don't let you customize your options as much as they used to, but Arma isn't shooting for the lowest common denominator like those other games. :)

Why does the server go down all time?

I'm pretty sure they not only rolled back that patch but also changed it so that users opted in to the dev built can't join standard alpha servers.
  24. Maybe in another 10 or 20 years, depending on how hardware goes. It's fun to dream, tho. :) lol wut? EA is just humping BF's corpse until it goes cold, and the original Red Faction (THQ) had more impressive destructible environments. BF's destructible environment is just canned effects. They're better than nothing, but not what they should be. Hitting a wall on the corner and having a standardized hole open up 2 feet from where I shot is not pioneering. I hesitate to even do it the honor of calling it destructible. By those standards barrels that explode when you shoot them or shattering window glass counts.
