    Behaviour "careless" is useless

"Careless" behaviour is important in mission making for the sole fact it makes the AI unit not react to enemies. Also worth mentioning is that unlike in Hollywood movies and casual videogames, silencers don't exactly make weapons "silent".

    Helicopter physics impressions - simplified

Even if BIS once touted Arma to be a simulator, it was for the infantry side and tactics. Vehicles have always been there just to appear semirealistic from the point of view of infantry.
  3. Just switch to using script files out-of-game once you get to the point where "one-liners" are no longer feasible. @cuel: He's talking about the editor's init fields etc.

    New York City (By Bracer84)

Well then, if this is a thread about a hypothetical A3 port of a work-in-progress A2 map from a person who apparently has no forum presence here, what are we to discuss? And I guess this still belongs to the addon request thread (if you noticed, all the mod-specific threads on this category are made by their creators for info/feedback).

This should probably be in the addon request thread.

Lets face it BI didn't deliver

We're discussing legacy bugs from the earlier games. Are these such?

Lets face it BI didn't deliver

How are any of these things "bugs and glitches" ? Bad or lack of design perhaps, but not bugs and glitches. Unless you actually have something to specify?

Lets face it BI didn't deliver

Examples? The challenge here is that the menu system needs to support simple scripting/modding, so a system that would be limited by certain keys/gestures etc doesn't work. If you have an idea of a menu system that could achieve all this I guess you should post it. Content wise, they didn't. They made fully new stuff. But you complain that the game doesn't have Arma 2's content catalog which is the product of a decade of work. You mean what you expected. I never expected anything but new content, so while there are certain things I would've liked to have in the game that are still missing, I'm positively surprised. :)

Lets face it BI didn't deliver

Well lets see: - This is the most stable Arma release ever. Did you even play the previous titles upon release? Things are really good even compared to the current state of Arma 2, 4 years after release. - I don't remember any menu/command improvements being promised so where's the "failure to deliver"? - The reason for Arma 2's huge catalog of guns, vehicles and such is that a lot of them were refurbished Arma 1 / OFP content. I guess they didn't want to yet again deliver the same stuff that we've been playing with for over a decade. Arma 2 was pretty much a brushed up version of Arma 1. Arma 1 was pretty much a brushed up version of OFP. Seeing a pattern here. And yeah, the current state of the game isn't a product of 4 years of development towards the same goal (you might have heard of the Greece incident as well as change in lead designers).

Patch 1.02 - Time to say thank you

But here's where you get it wrong - the campaign is not the main part of the game :)

    really... no omnidirectional movement?

Why should BIS be expected to fully support analogue gamepads? It shouldn't come off as a surprise that a game like this really has been built with keyboard & mouse in mind when there are barely any keys left unbinded. It's interesting that you lay this out as if we were hostile towards your gaming habits, while it's the other way around starting right in your OP.
  12. This is an unfortunate side-effect of the Steam update system common to most "shelf" published Steam games. Some games don't even contain all the required data on the discs and rely on the fact that the rest needs to be downloaded upon installation. If you have a friend with a better connection, you can login to Steam using your account on his computer, install the game there and backup the files to a removable media.
  13. There is a loadout selection screen out of the box (briefing).
  14. I had that bug with the Design Mastery Weapons back in Alpha.

    Stream Only Forever?

I haven't read anything sillier in a while. You're saying that the industry-wide everyday phenomenon of developers/publishers "widening their target audience" (also known as streamlining or more aptly "dumbing down the game") in order to gain more profit is Steam's fault? Now I know that Gabe Newell is to blame for every lacky console game out there, and I should also start preparing for the day ED switches my Steam-bought DCS modules to toy planes.

    Stream Only Forever?

Then why did you register the game on your own account and not your son's? This sounds like a problem in your system instead of Steam. Did you go around moving the game files? Faulty hard drive? Also, the game series itself has had its share of bugs which I'm sure you ran into in Flashpoint, but those didn't stop you from enjoying the game did they? So why let a couple of weird occurences with Steam be a deal-breaker? Edit: I'd like to emphasize this as well. Steam is a very different (better) platform than it was in 2005/2006.
  17. And now I just got really excited. Rk 95, Sisu XA-180, CV90, AMOS? And a cross-flag? :) Will the faction consists entirely of gear and vehicles developed by / in use in the Nordic Countries? Edit: or is it actually a Patria XA-203? Filename sure seems misleading :p
  18. Even my wild imagination cannot begin to understand what we would benefit from the renaming and recoloring of the sides. Especially since BLUFOR and OPFOR are real life military terms (in the US).
  19. It's not like the post-release dev builds are going to constantly offer us new content & features - I remember having no problems running regular missions in Arma 2 with beta patches. It'll mostly just be bug fixes and subtle changes under the hood.
  20. As for the OP - what would the fictious future versions of the vehicles you listed offer over the ones we have now? (except being your favorites). It's not like you can predict what vehicles different militaries will order in the next 20 years, and even then, they may be new designs instead of some new variants of the 90s technology you listed. More importantly, you even listed stuff that still ain't in mass production today, so what's the difference really?
  21. Might want to work on your spelling.

  23. There should be a directory called "userconfig" in your Arma 3 root (if there isn't, you can create it yourself). So just copy the mentioned file there with the correct directory structure. Edit: or you know, just drag'n'drop the userconfig folder in @TPW_CIVS to your Arma 3 root.
  24. Real mission creation still relies heavily on scripting so these features might be just a low-priority effort for BIS. But since the modules are already there and BIS are on dev lockdown I'm quite sure major bugs related to mission modules get fixed by September 12th.
