Are we going to get/is there anywhere to get Patch Notes?
RuecanOnRails replied to mordeaniischaos's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
There were a lot of things tweaked. couple notable ones I have seen All around stability has increased Cpu utilization has been improved two amd cards in crossfire are working. I'm able to see 99% on both cards every so often. While the scaling for crossfire isn't too great hopefully it will improve with driver updates. There are new shadow looks and effect. There are's also a very high and an ultra for shadow quality. -
Thoughts on the new Shadows and settings
RuecanOnRails replied to RuecanOnRails's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Overall not really, but your mileage may vary. With my set up it doesnt really matter what shadow quality I use, the fps ranges between them all is about 2-4 fps last I checked so I just keep it on the highest settings. The shadows on every setting have been changed, not just adding very high and ultra. Even on standard it's improved. I think low is still the same as before. Added link to pictures in original post. -
That's an interesting issue, maybe there's a feature in the works for some sort of voice comms or streaming. Regardless I think it's time you stop gaming in the nude.. Also clean up that room just incase ;)

If only people used the search function instead of making new threads. It is a confirmed bug. Other "hacks" and scripts however are most likely available and I'm sure more will surface because at the moment this is an ALPHA. and alpha which is throwing in features for testing it does not contain any anti-hack measures as features are constantly changing. If you are looking for an actual gaming experience, you best to look elsewhere while arma 3 is being tested. Come back when it's a full release.

Always run the latest dev patch, This is an alpha designed for testing. If people simply refuse to update their game because it may hinder their gaming experience then we get nowhere. I don't think they should have 2 versions, push the early dev updates to everyone. If the game breaks for a day or two then it breaks. It's an alpha for a reason it's meant to be buggy and unplayable at times we are supposed to be testing not gaming. This isn't a Demo or a Beta expect things to go wrong.

Helicopters. What do you guys think of the A3 versions?
RuecanOnRails replied to JojoTheSlayer's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
What we are playing IS an Alpha. It is the first public Alpha for Arma 3. There are NO retail versions available or being sold. Anything you buy into, is a pre-order to help build hype and allow people who have been waiting early access and perks. It also allows the community to test and voice our opinion on changes that we would like to see. Public Alpha's are used to stress the code, iron out weakness and constant feature additions and changes. Once 90% of the features have been added and they are happy that the game is "feature complete" they will bring it into the Beta stage of development. Beta stage is used to address bugs, clean up the code, and provide a smoother experience overall. Still add minor features but usually nothing game changing. Arma 3 is currently using the flight mechanics as a place holder for the time being (it has been said before). There are also rumours of it adding back support in a way like take on helicopters re-armed did in one of their free dlc's allowing us to incorporate previous arma and take on helicopter titles into one. When will see see TKOH flight mechanics? No one knows for certain, I'd expect it to happen in a couple months once the infantry mechanics are fully tested and tweaked. This is an alpha, it is not a beta, nor is it an "alpha" where the game is already complete and our input means nothing. The developers are not following orders from a publisher using the terms alpha/beta to sell more units by pretending to involve the community. Once TKOH flight is in place I hope to see a lot of servers locking the flight difficulty on expert to allow skilled pilots to actually be useful. -
Everything is controlled by the servers. Simply don't join a server that doesn't allow easy distinct ways to tell if a unit is friendly or an enemy. Get on side chat and confirm your target, give them a chance to reply then announce your shot. If after all that you still hit a friendly you have a bit of an excuse as the person in question could not be identified visually or over coms. Whether to take a shot or not is a big part of arma and requires team work and communication. I'm assuming you found arma through wasteland and dayz, and never really played the core game. If that's the case, I highly recommend going back to arma 2 and playing through the campaigns. One play through one veteran difficulty and I can just about promise you'll be much improved at differentiating units. With all that said, you could also ignore all of that and filter out servers with high difficulties that allow you to spot an enemy then check your map to see their icon colour. The game really can be played anyway you want, however you are bound by server settings if you choose to play online.

How to install ArmA 3 on a RAMDisk
RuecanOnRails replied to Sephisto's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
I was going to offer a slightly different method using a ramdisk and symbolic links to move only the most accessed files. After analyzing the process monitor data with what files are most used during standard online play you only end up saving about 500mb versus moving the entire game to ramdisk. Not really worth my efforts haha. I do have one question for you, Have you tried disabling your pagefile? or if you have enough ram move pagefile onto ramdisk. I did notice a fair bit of data transfers to/from pagefile from arma3.exe It seems arma3 requires some sort of pagefile running. When disabled, windows would pop up a message saying to close arma3 due to low virtual memory. If ignored the game would crash a few minutes after. It did the same thing setting a small 800mb for pagefile it however lasted longer. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same results. -
Why Do You Think Bohemia Interactive Is Holding Back?
RuecanOnRails replied to Leaulux's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
As has been said by a few people, they are of course holding back. It's a smart thing to do during the testing phase, release small portions to be tested. If they released everything at once; lets say they released an early Altis map same day alpha was avaliable. How many people do you think would be playing Statis? As a result Stratis would most likely get released with more bugs and glitches than it otherwise would from releasing small amounts of content at a time. By giving us small amounts at a time we as a community are able to put that content through it's paces finding glitches, bugs, and poor design before we move on to a new set of content. -
Do mods really help testing right now
RuecanOnRails replied to MrUnSavory's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Arma series is heavily based upon community mods. The one thing that mods can offer is the ability to stress the game in ways that may not have been anticipated by the devs. Allowing for a more in-depth look that the mod focuses. I enjoy both vanilla and mod/custom mission file gameplay. I do find it hard to find a server due to the majority of servers being locked for people testing with just a few friends. Very few are open to the public and not many dedicated servers are up yet. -
Why the texture seems too blurred at long distance?
RuecanOnRails replied to freemangl's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Arma goes for a realistic visual method. Objects in distance just like real life will be difficult to see detail. debris in the air will aid to distort objects at a distance as well. There are things you can try to clear it up a bit. This may be due to your settings, both in your graphics card control and in game. Post processing will add some DOF which will cause distances to be blurred unless your focusing on them. To sharpen up the image try changing these couple settings: Post processing: Disabled Terrain detail: highest setting Anisotropic Filtering: Ultra (or whatever the highest is) Turn FXAA to ultra. In your graphics card contol panel, try and set everything to default/managed by application. -
Eyfinity/triple-screen setup support
RuecanOnRails replied to Ringo's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
You should check out this site. http://www.wsgf.org/ Here's info for arma 2 http://www.wsgf.org/dr/armed-assault-2-arma-2 If a game doesn't natively support multi display, this site will help you find a way to make it work. -
I don't believe they need to merge Altis and Stratis. The distance between is something around 35km away. That would be a LOT of empty useless ocean doing nothing except causing more data to be loaded. Sure they could easily put the islands close and just off shore of one another, but that would ruin the immersion set in place for the story. The balance complaint is not a valid one in my mind. An offshore aircraft carrier would work better than having multiple airports all over the island.

alpha on one computer and beta on another one
RuecanOnRails replied to MrUltimatephil's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Sounds to me like someone is trying to exploit the game before it's even released. As with most alpha releases, I'd imagine updates are forced and pushed out for a reason. We will be testers of the game, not trying to pick and choose certain updates to play on. Wait until final release before getting picky with updates. My interpretation of the original question is one where someone may be upgrading their computer during the alpha to beta stage and wondering if the alpha is tied to a single computer. If that is the case, I think I can safely say the alpha is not locked to a computer, rather it is locked to your steam account. Therefore you can play the alpha/beta/final release on any computer as long as you are logged into your steam account. No matter which version of the game whether alpha/beta/full you will only be able to have one active game running at a time. If you want to play the game at the same time on multiple computer buy multiple copies of the alpha while it's still cheap. As for simultaneously playing Alpha and Beta on different computers. That will not and SHOULD not be possible, once the game turns to beta, alpha version will no longer be available. The alpha will switch to beta via an update, not a separate client. The alpha lite will be disabled on June 18. -
What mod's/missions do you want to see in ArmA 3 Alpha?
RuecanOnRails replied to Westonsammy's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I would like to see a practical grappling hook to assist climbing up onto objects and buildings. And the ability to interact with static objects based on physics. Able to move small objects by hand, larger objects pushed with vehicles.
