Operation Trebuchet - Total conversion mod for Arma 3
ltfrankie replied to thedog88's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Do you only get to play as a Spartan? It'd be weird to play one during Mombasa. Nah. Not hitpoints. Just more stamina and less felt recoil IMO. What are the new things? Falcon and snow units, right? -

So will the next version come out in the upcoming week, or the one after? What will the first release of OPTRE have? -

Will there be any Spartan 1s or would it be too complicated to add them? AFAIK, they'd just use black body suits or ODST armor, and would use normal human models. They'd just...have more stamina/carrying capacity and maybe less felt recoil. -

Very nice! Part of it probably has to do with there being no release of OPTRE yet. Once that happens, you"ll get new blood and old people from TEI. -
For the needler, look up Halo CMT. I know they had a few different iterations of the Needler. As for the iron/holo sight debate: I would vote on no. Consider the fact there's already a "zoom" effect without using sights but still use the crosshair, and the fact that covenant weapons would have no bullet drop. Btw, you should try to make the weapons more like they were in the novels/more realistic and less like how they were in the game. In game, they're just meant to be balanced for an arcade shooter.

It'd be nice to adjust them. I'd prefer the pouches to stay in their current colors though, instead of being all black regardless of camo. -

Could we have the medic armor not be all white and just have a red cross symbol on the shoulders? Or at least just have the helmet white? The torso wasn't white ingame, and I think it makes them stick out too much in a game where camo can matter. Otherwise, you guys are doing God's work. :D -

It's a shame one drawback of posting on a moderated message board is that you can't out right tell someone to fuck off or you'd get in trouble for "flaming". Definitely. I'd personally prefer the novel troopers over the movie ones, though. Powered armor FTW. -
Grunt Majors would probably be the equivalent of a 'team leader', having 3-4 Grunt Minors below him. Then an Elite Minor or Major would be above him. That's not counting specops and stuff. It's been a while since I last played a halo game though.

I recommend you get a working Covenant weapon done, set up a modDB page and then try to form a team by looking for help and stuff. If you have something functional, people will take you much more seriously.

They're probably working that out, but NMPD & Colonial Militia will likely be a thing. I figure it's low on the priority list right now though. -

The planned assets is for what things they plan to add to the mod. They"ll probably tweak what's already in game. -

I think it was H2A and H:R. The ones in H3/H:ODST/H:R already look pretty similar. Though I'm partial to Reach just because I like camo. Of course, we could always have normal black for night operations and then camo variants. I wonder that if they"ll stick to the Reach aesthetic, maybe they could get extra stuff from H:CEA? They both already have a very similar aesthetic, just with some slightly different things. -
If this can be done, I think a true scale Elite can be done. It's just a matter of finding the talent.

@Theronnett: Not to be a grammar nazi, but I'm going to be a grammar nazi. You capitalize only the letter at the beginning of a sentence unless it's a noun. Adjectives such as "pretty" are not nouns. Anyway, I checked out the halo waypoint site. https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/universe/weapons/dmr So the DMR should definitely be around. It was largely replaced by Battle Rifle, with only UNSC Army and Marine Reserve units using the DMR. https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/universe/weapons/assault-rifle Halo waypoint specifies the MA37 as being an Army weapon. -

I figure for the BR and DMR they could take some inspiration from Halo 4. I don't get what would the tactical difference be. I wonder how they'd make the M45 and M90 different. The M90 was used in the main trilogy, with the M45 being used only in Reach. Apparently they were both in use at the same time, but the M45 was mostly replaced by the M90 in the Marine Corps. But the Army was still using the M45 as their mainstay. http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/M90_Close_Assault_Weapon_System#cite_note-4 @ 880Zero: It certainly wouldn't be unreasonable for the Army to have the MA37 & M45 with the Marines using the MA5B & M90. The US doesn't have a completely uniform arms selection across their branches. They're meant to be different models in canon. Why do we not have the MA37 & MA5B in Halo:CEA and Halo Reach despite being in the same timespan? Gameplay reasons like you said. 343 wanted to just do a graphical update for HCEA, which is one reason why we don't see the MA37. -

It's not too unbelievable. Russian soldiers tend to have a rag-tag assortment of different uniforms, and national guardsmen in the US tend to have older equipment. Heck, the Canadian Rangers only just phased out the Lee-Enfield. Now imagine you're not dealing with the military of a major power, but a multi-system interstellar military that has multiple planetary garrisons. Some planets may design their own specific patterns for equipment (at least for camo) and could be using various patterns of the same rifle, some of which could be decades old. Some older equipment could be produced in more backwater areas just because it may be more economical for the moment. @Theron Nett: You don't cite any sources in that post you made on waypoint, though. They may be willing to add H2A/Halo Wars armor, but I don't think they will unless someone else makes them. @Devs: Any chance of getting some armor pieces that appeared in H:CEA, seeing as how they're very close to the Reach assets chronologically and aesthetically? It also seems the BR55 is actually weaker in 1.3? It takes 8 shots to down arma or UNSC soldier with a BR, but 5 with a MA5. Maybe I kept hitting their weapon -
Didnt TEI/OP:TRE work on an Elite model for an april fools joke?
-
If you want to be faithful to how Elites used to talk: Reverse the dialogue and...speed it up I think. Sgt Johnson saying "go go go" is actually "wort wort wort".
-
It would be too jarring to have covenant use arena shooter armor values, but have UNSC use milsim values. I think the best way to do it is to compare how many more hits it takes to down an Elite versus a Marine. Then look at how many hits it takes to down a Medium/Heavy Marine in OPTRE. Use that as a base then to figure out how many hits an Elite should take. So if it takes twice as many hits in Halo games, an Elite should take twice as many hits in the mod.
-
OP, you should talk to the guys working on the warhammer 40k mod for arma 2. Chances are they can give you pointers. As for balance, they should be balanced. Just asymmetrical. You could make say, Kig Yar feel less recoil to make them better marksman, but be more frail than humans. Going by Lance formations, only 1:6-7 players would be an Elite anyway. Though thinking about it, Unggoy really feel more suitable as NPC-controlled fodder. I guess the low quality of the more numerous Unggoy help balance out the superiority of Elites versus humans, not counting NPCs. Gameplay wise, you should remember this is still a milsim and keep in mind this will be used alongside OPTRE. So having to empty thirty shots with an MA5 into an Elite would be ridiculous, but it should be more than what a UNSC heavy marine or ODST can take. As for Elites vs Spartan IIs: I think Spartan IIIs and Elites are more on par with eachother. I think SIIs would be better than most Elites--closer to Ultras & Zealots in skill. I vaguely remember one Zealot in one of the Halo novels being described by John as being an even match. My reasoning is that Spartan IIs are the most selectively chosen and trained to be superhuman transhumans. It's the wheat separated from the chaff, which is then further separated and refined for the best wheat there is to make some gourmet bread with truffles. The Elites meanwhile are an entire species of warriors, so I think the vastly larger numbers and the more general combat roles Elites fulfill mean they won't be up to the same standard. Though really, this would only effect AI skill levels.

Looking good! :) Slight nitpick: It looks like the MA5C instead of the MA5B. I know it's trivial. But there's a noticeable difference. Can't hurt to change it while the game is in alpha still. I think the MA5B's ammo counter is shorter but has a slightly higher profile? Please add them. More variety is always good. They can always be used for individuals, people who want another "Halo" style OPFOR or modders who prefer the Halo:CE look and use that for their missions. As for the maps, I'm happy you going with cities. Thematically, cities suit Halo because of how there's so much urban combat and how the game takes place in pretty close quarters. Maybe you can use some low-graphic models to get a bigger city, like that one Baghdad map that was ported from ArmA? -
IMO, you should work on making an Elite first. They're the most iconic of the Covenant. Just an Elite with a plasma rifle would be enough to hold me back for a while.
