Pitch Blackness (And it's not because of gamma or brightness)
MadnessAntipathy replied to MadnessAntipathy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thank you for your time in replying. Yes, I've tried the different HDR settings in video options. I've even set every option to low. It looks crappy, but the problem persists. I've downloaded this HDR mod by the Global Disaster Team which proves useful in controlling the darkness but only in single player. However, the mod does not work in multiplayer. I'm led to believe that it may be a HDR issue. However, I've tried the various settings including changing the .cfg file but to no avail. Any assistance in this would be helpful please. -

Good afternoon, Thank you for taking the time to reply. Please see below for pictures and image description. Apologies for not having a video as requested as the file size was large (>700 MB) URL : http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/580/2012072700001.jpg/ The first screenshot is that of my finding a light source. URL : http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/210/2012072700002.jpg/ The second one is that of after turning off my NVGs. Please note that I left my character standing there for a good 30 minutes. (Crazy right? But I just wanted to prove something) URL : http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/841/2012072700003.jpg/ The last screenshot is that after I toggled the v-sync from enabled to disabled. The lights were showing up after this toggle. However, after I turned on and off my night vision, the image went back to pitch darkness until I toggled my v-sync. -

A very pleasant day to all, I've been having an issue with ARMA 2 : OA. Please see my specs and problem description below. Any assistance would be of immense help to myself and others facing this problem. Cheers! :) Intel Corei7 2600K @ 3.4 GHz (Non O/Ced) 16 GB DDR3 (Forgot the brand) AMD XFX 6990 (In xFire configuration) 1200W power (Forgot the brand) Problem Description : At night, I will be using my night vision goggles, and when I reach a brightly lit spot such as a campfire or building which has a light source, I turn off my night vision and yet everything remains pitch black. I read somewhere that this game employs realism with visual adaptations similar to that in real life. Taking this into consideration, I left my character staring into that light source for at least an hour and went to do something else. This did not do anything to my visuals and the game still remains pitch black. To add on, when accessing my watch or compass in-game, both items do not show up. When in multiplayer, I would go to a light source and replicate the problem with tons of success. I would also ask players if they could see the light source where I can't and they would reply that they can see it. Interim Solution : This is probably the only solution that I know until someone can come up with a fix to this problem. I simply go into my video options, toggle the vsync status and done, I can finally see my watch, compass and the light source ever so bright in my face. But I do not want to have to toggle my settings everytime the game throws me into total darkness. Persistent Problem : When I turn on my night vision, the same pitch darkness comes back again and remains that way for hours on end until I perform above solution. Steps Taken : Have tried to toggle highest gamma and brightness (Still cannot see a thing) Have tried lowering all settings (Was running on max settings with no FPS lag) Have tried running on 1 graphic card (I disabled xFire and/or physically removed 1) Have tried to toggle my Catalyst settings (Every option on maximum quality and lowest quality) The above steps did not yield any solutions. Request : From my observations from other players, I really hope that this is a problem at my end and not the game itself. However, I've tried everything that I know to do and am led to believe that this may be a game problem. Can someone out there who knows what is wrong, kindly enlighten me and provide some solutions for this problem please? I thank you once again for reading this somewhat lengthy post and your assistance. PS : This is a really great game and I had no regrets pouring my cash into this. If the gaming experience (Not graphic experience) that ARMA 3 can provide is similar or better than what ARMA 2 is doing now, Bohemia Interactive Studios, take my money!!!
