    AI can drive, finally.

The AI drives pretty reckless as well. Try setting up a race with a couple of Civilian offroads from one end of Stratis to the other and give them a bit of a head start, theyre incredibly tough to overtake and they will try to get you get past you with all theyve got. Its actually a lot of fun setting up those races, feels more like a race game than a milsim =)
  2. Wow, what is your problem dude? Theres even a developer who posted on this thread and basically agreed. I dont think the graphical quality of something that covers 10-30% of your screen most of the time can be considered to fall under your category of "every single thing". This is a discussion forum about the arma 3 alpha and its issues, if you dont like that then dont read this part of the forum to begin with.
  3. Yeah, i totally agree. This was one of the first impressions i had: The game does look AMAZING, the close range textures, the vehicles, the soldiers, the lighting, and then youve got these incredibly blurry terrain textures. Kinda reminds me of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion which had the same thing: It looked amazing, but the textures in the distance destroyed the whole looks of the game. I hope BI can get better ground textures in the game at a later stage, AT LEAST as an option. Tbh i cant see sharper ground textures having that much of an impact on performance, all it would use is more of your GPU's ram.

    Arma 3 first impressions

Good: - Stances - Animations - Overall look of the game, especially the lighting system. Seriously, i think the game looks better at night with all the lights. - Although the feeling for speed in the cars is kind of weird, but i just love how the vehicles are not locked at 100/120 now, driving through the hills at 150kmh is really fun and kind of scary :) - Attention to Detail on Stratis, great stuff. - The new Inventory/Gear Menu. Oh god yes... just yes. Bad: - The cars, especially the civilian truck, feels like driving a piece of soap. It slides around on the ground like crazy. - Picture in Picture requires WAY too much performance. Even on low it kills 33% of my FPS. - The terrain textures. They look SO blurry and ugly even on Max settings. Everything in the game looks so good, but when you fly in the heli and there are no trees... - Interiors of the houses. They just feel so empty and some of the textures make it feel like you switch from a 2013 game to a 2005 game when you walk into a building. - Performance in the towns... Its the old story, towns are the bottleneck for performance and its pretty much as bad as in A2.
  5. Can anyone comfirm that all of those who bought it on the bis store will indeed receive a standard steam key? if that is the case i will buy it on steam right now and sell my other key to a friend or on ebay...
  6. I dont know, i love BIS and all, but its getting really frustrating, because of these facts: - They couldve sent out keys instead of making you click a link to a site that will - or will not - display your key. - The fans who payed to support suffer the most. - They couldve enabled pre-purchasing and pre-loading a week ago and wed all be sitting here playing right now... its not like the "technology" for that isnt there. - There is zero response from BIS regarding the issues.
  7. Yes, as i have previously mentioned, i have received 3 purchase confirmations by BIS per e-mail. I guess i received 3 because i had to click the button to confirm the order multiple times as the store kept going down.
  8. Still no steam key, buty hey, at least i have just received the THIRD confirmation e-mail for my purchase, lol (yes, same order number)
  9. Im also getting the "No purchase of this product found" message. The e-mail by BIS doesnt help either btw. if anyone is waiting for it, it just has the same link in it as the one on the order information page.
  10. All im praying for is that the AI will be multi threaded so the game is ready for the future. When the next gen consoles will be out i expect PC CPUs to jump to 8 cores as a standard but what good will that do if the thing in arma that takes most of the cpu's power only uses 1 cpu. A GPU upgrade can be costly but at least it can be done, i havent seen CPU core clocks increasing over the last couple of years though.

That sounds absolutely sweet. Thanks again for all the hard work Benny

Alright then :) Will you be making any chances to the AI capabilities regarding transporting? Its just so sad to see the transport chopper/Truck/IFV following the AI squadleader walking from one end of the map to the other. SOMETIMES the leader enters the transport he has built, but it seems like he only does that when he is close to the base when the transport vehicle is finished building.

Yes, that is an option of course. But first of all it is kind of annoying, especially because once you have set your own buytypes, the ai wont re-adjust the buytypes once youve researched more factory upgrades, so youre stuck setting all buytypes manually for the rest of the game. And secondly this bug also applies to the enemy team, so the only option for me to manually fix it is to disable "kick teamswappers" and manually adjust both team's buytypes throughout the game. Surely this can not be the intended way to play the game.

Another thing concerning AI. I keep having problems with AI Air buytypes being availible from the beginning on, even before having built a Barracks/Aircraft Factory/Command Center at all. Whats even worse is that in the 56 player Version, 24 AI's get an Air buytype assigned from the beginning on, and of course they wont build anything at all because the Chopper is on top of the priority list. It gets balanced later in the game, as i research more and more stuff. When ive researched everything the buytype balance between heavy/air/infantry/light is balanced, but before that its just air madness. At first i thought this was due to the high number of mods i was using with the game, but i just tried with all mods deactivated and it still happens. The problem is also persistent across all Warfare BE Versions ive tried from 2.071 upwards. Is this a problem that only i am facing? Or is it a bug that came up with recent beta patches?

Are you sure you turned on AI Squads and the AI commander parameters? They are disabled by default in 073.2 I tried sp lan and it worked perfectly for me. Couldnt check out the HC Version though because of the need for 2 licenses.

073.2 sounds sweet, cant wait for it :D About the Headless client... how does it work exactly? Does it do all of the ai calculation or can you limit it to specific values? Can you have multiple HC's on a server? And how do you start it on the machine you want to have it on? Would be nice if there was a little tutorial for it, or maybe there is one on the internet that i just cant find?

I dont think Benny will be updating any other maps for 2.073. Youll have to wait for 2.074 or port your favorite maps over yourself. Another option would be playing the 2.071 versions, theres not too much of a difference to 2.073 in your usage scenario afaik. Increasing the Playerslots to a higher number is fairly easy though, instructions can be found on Warfares development site: https://dev-heaven.net/projects/warfare-be/wiki/Editing

Vehicles you buy are locked by default. Either uncheck the red lock icon when buying a vehicle, or choose the "unlock" option from the menu when standing close to the vehicle.

Could you leave the code for Client side delegation in as an option? I use it in my singleplayer games - hosted on a dedicated server on the same machine - to get a little bit of load off the core that is computing the ai instructions to one of the cores dealing with the game client itself. I dont think a headless client would help all that much in my usage scenario.

Well, those 2 steps are really all you have to do. You need to be careful to edit the right files for it to work though. Some tips that might solve your problem: - Try adding the unit to both Units_CO_US.sqf and Units_OA_US.sqf - Be careful where you add the plane in Units_CO_US.sqf and Units_OA_US.sqf. Look out for the "_restriction_air" variables, as adding the plane in the wrong section makes it unavailible unless the Advanced Aircraft Restriction parameter is set to that specific value. If that doesnt help post your Units_CO_US.sqf, Units_OA_US.sqf and Core_US.sqf on pastebin and ill look into it. Im not exactly an expert scripter or anything but so far ive gotten all of the content i wanted to add to work :)

You're welcome. Did it work propperly for you even with Vista? Well, yes, most of the credit still goes to benny, even for the modified versions :) I have to say that my respect for Benny has gone through the roof since i started editing myself and seeing what i got myself into. Ive been adding quite some mod content for my own 3 sided SP Version (US, UK, GER, FR, DAF vs. RU (ARF), CN vs. IRAN, RACS) and its been an absolutely exhausting thing to do. Collecting all the classnames for vehicles, weapons etc. balancing the values of each just ROUGHLY for SP, then adding the squads so the AI actually uses the new content in a propper way... I dont even want to imagine how much work it is to rewrite some of the core scripts from scratch. Based on my own editing work my dream is a config tool for WFBE with a classname/value/squad/map database which easily lets you add content by just clicking what you want to have in it based on the mods youve got installed. Maybe even add a selector for 2/3 sided options and the number of Slots availible. I would totally start working on something like that if just my programming skills were not close to zero.

Thanks :) Another question: Im in the process of adding pretty much all of the mod content i have to a 3-sided Version of WFBE 2.073. Ive got around 5-6 Jetfighter choices per side and id love to have a random buytype for the AI so that they have a "Jet - Fighter" buytype, but buy a different plane each time. Now what i tried so far is this (shortened for forum purposes) code in Squad_OA_US.sqf: _randomn=(round (random 2)); switch(_randomn) do {case 0: {_u = ["CH_47F_EP1"]; ... _aiTeamTemplateName = _aiTeamTemplateName + ["Air - Infantry CH-47F Squadron"]; }; case 1: {_u = ["OfRp_Puma_RESCO"]; ... _aiTeamTemplateName = _aiTeamTemplateName + ["Air - Infantry Puma RESCO Squadron"]; }; case 2: {_u = ["bw_ch_53d"]; ... _aiTeamTemplateName = _aiTeamTemplateName + ["Air - Infantry BW CH-53D Squadron"]; }; }; This works so far, but the problem with this of course is that one buytype is selected each time the mission starts which wont change until the mission is restarted. So my question is, is there any way to achieve this? Maybe by injecting a random loop in the code which makes the AI buy stuff? Or is that hard coded into the game and cannot be done by scripting?

    Warfare BE

Can anyone tell me how i can find/edit ALL of the selectable buy types for the AI? I found some in the files under \Common\Config\Core_Squads None of the Infantry/Motorized/Mechanized buy types are preconfigured in these files though.

    Warfare BE

Hey Benny & WFBE Community First of all, thanks to Benny for all the hard work on this mission. I have to say that i missed out on arma2 until just recently i got a proper PC for this game. Warfare BE is the most fun i had with a game in quite a while, so thanks for that. Totally looking forward to 074. Will 074 be a stable version and include support for all of the islands 071 had support for? Additionally i have found out kind of a hacky way to save the game on a dedicated server. Im not sure if this is known already, ill just post it anyways because some people in this thread have been asking for something like this. I gotta admit that i mostly play Singleplayer and i have only tested this on my machine (Win7 Pro 64Bit) so i am not sure if this will work for everyone. I usually play Singleplayer with the dedicated Server AND the Client running on my PC (2500k OC'd to 4.4 ghz), as this - for some reason - gives me much better performance than just starting a normal LAN Server in the game. I hated not being able to save my progress, as games on big islands take a LOT of time to complete (which is a good thing really) so i started experimenting a bit. What i found out is that you can freeze/unfreeze the dedicated Server completely using PSTools, which is a Tool offered by Microsoft that can freeze Processes within Windows. ((Sorry, cant post a clickable link with 0 posts) Link: technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896649.aspx) Simply using this command: pssuspend.exe arma2oaserver.exe and this command to resume: pssuspend.exe -r arma2oaserver.exe you can suspend and resume the dedicated server whenever you like, without any issues whatsoever. While the server is frozen, it wil not show up in the Serverbrowser. I even found out a way to suspend and resume the server PLUS the client on my machine to save the stuff that i bought. Usually when you just suspend and resume both in the wrong order, the client will disconnect from the server. Using the following code for 2 batch files (1 to suspend both processes, and 1 to resume both) will make that possible (Just create textfiles, copy/paste it there, fix the path to pstools and save it as batch files) Suspend: pssuspend.exe ArmA2OA.exe PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 100 >NUL pssuspend.exe arma2oaserver.exe Resume: pssuspend.exe -r ArmA2OA.exe PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 100 >NUL pssuspend.exe -r arma2oaserver.exe Explanation: the PING command is just a dirty way to create a pause within a batch file. Unfortunately there is no other way to create pauses in batch files that can be set to a specific amount of milliseconds. (100 = 10ms) The commands need to be in that particular order to propperly pause and resume both the server and the client without the client disconnecting. The server and the client will of course use up ram while they are frozen, but absolutely no CPU at all. The only drawback is that you cant completely shutdown your pc as this will of course delete everything written in the ram. Putting the PC to energy-saving mode and resuming afterwards will work though. It is a dirty solution, i know that, but it pretty much has solved the saving-problem for me. At least i was able to actually finish quite a game on Lingor with Town Amount set to Full over a couple of days. I hope this helps some of the Singleplayer guys out there, and who knows... maybe even Windows-server admins will be interested in suspending dedicated servers with pstools. It won't save progress for Players who disconnect of course, so it is by no means a replacement for a proper database, but for SP it works pretty fine.
