    Arma 2 & OA Shadows?

thanks for that. Sadly my settings are already at what's recommended in the guide. I'm thinking of upgrading my PC anytime soon anyway. This will probably help the performance the most :)

    A1/A2 hard drive performance

thanks for these. Always nice to see how a component influences game performance. But in this case I didn't really see much of a difference. Mabye it's just me though?

    Starting off with ArmA2

What do you mean by this? :S Do I have to be concerned to get banned when playing DayZ?

    Arma 2 & OA Shadows?

I also never knew that. Is there other cases like this?

Will Arma 3 replace Arma 2?

I actually just read this EULA section 2 for the first time. And I didn't really understand the exact meaning behind it since it's juridical gibberish, but I think I understand now why the modders don't want Steam Workshop. I have always been a "fan" of Valve and Steam, but I'm slowly starting to change my mind about it. I guess Valve isn't that different from EA after all. But then even if a game uses SWS, I don't think you have to use it. I mean there are mods for Skyrim but some of them can only be downloaded on third party sites if I'm not mistaken.
  6. To be honest that's also what I did, switching between driver and gunner position. But the problem of maneuvering during a battle still persists, when you are in the gunner position. Most of the time you have to react very quickly and there is no time to switch seats back and forth. If I tell my driver to forward fast, I want him to forward fast no matter what, but the AI driver persists to do some weird maneuvering, basically wasting a lot of important time, leaving the tank at a vulnerable position and messing up my aim or possibly letting a target get out of my (the gunner's) view. The AI driver is pretty bad even when you give him a waypoint most of the time. He seems to not being able to decide which is the best route or how to bypass an obstacle and does this weird forward, backward, left, right etc movement all while basically staying at the same spot. And yes, I also agree that the AI in your vehicle can be quite bad at shooting and/or acquiring targets sometimes. This is another problem, when you are the driver or commander and the gunner just does not do anything useful, all while the enemy seems to be a lot smarter, faster and deadly accurate. And of course if you want to take the role of the commander, you have to command two useless crew members instead of only one, lol. But if you want to direct your tank without using 3rd person you basically have to use the commander slot, as the gunner and driver have a very restricted view and knowledge of the environment. So if anyone knows some good mod to improve on AI drivers and possibly gunner, I'm still very interested in it :)
  7. Is there any recommendable mod to improve on the driving skills of the AI? It's REALLY annoying when you try to command a tank and you need to get out of a bad situation really fast and the AI driver seems to just forward 1 meter then right, left, right, left, reverse, forward etc, all while basically staying at the same place. You probably know what I mean if you have experienced the AI driver :) It's also annoying if you're the gunner as this constant change of direction messes up aim.

Will Arma 3 replace Arma 2?

Will Arma 3 replace Arma 2?

Ok. So when you delete those "certain pbo files and their repsective BISIGN files" does this remove some stuff from the mod then or what is the problem with it (I don't really know how mods work exactly etc in Arma, haven't bothered with mods a lot yet)? And what's the modders problem with Steam workshop? Something else I was thinking about is the whole Arma 3 has all this futuristic equipment vs Arma 2 has modern and actually existing equipment. Or would this aspect of the game probably be ported to Arma 3 by modders pretty fast? Because I think many people prefer the game to have vehicles and gear that actually exist and/or are being used at this time.
  10. I have been thinking about this: I own Arma 2 and Arma 3 Alpha. I haven't played Arma 2 too much and I'm now thinking whether Arma 3 will replace Arma 2 or if they can/will co-exist multiplayer-wise? I mean it would really be a shame if I miss out on all that good content in Arma 2. If it's going to be "replaced" then I will have to put in a lot of time before Arma 3 releases, hehe :) How did the older titles fare when a successor got released?
  11. Oh thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to know
  12. Ok thank you. So I suppose the 2nd number is unit number within a group. And the "a" is probably the squad name? What about the first number? Is it something like a platoon number? I'd really like to know this so I know what I'm dealing with when I see one of those "names" :)
  13. In singleplayer whenever you go into the map mode and click on the "units" submenu there is a list of every unit in your squad and everyone has this unique number/letter combination assigned to it. You also get this number/letter combination assigned when you pick a "role" in multiplayer. Can anyone tell me what the meaning of the these numbers/letters are exactly? For example when I am the squad leader I have the combo "1-1-A" assigned. It's maybe not that important but I always wondered what every number/letter means.
  14. So I'm playing DayZ atm, like a lot of other people :) I'm launching it through Steam by using startup parameter -mod=@DAYZ. It's all working fine. But if I now want to play regular ARMA 2/OA will the DayZ mod change things so it affects regular ARMA 2/OA or is it all separate? If I join some Warfare server or play singleplayer campaign for example ... I noticed some fireplace in a simple mission and I don't know if this is supposed to be there ^^
  15. Hello everyone I play ARMA 2 on a Q9550@3.4ghz and GTX 460 (factory overclocked) atm ... on pretty low settings/view distance. But still my frames aren't that great most of the time, dipping into the low 20s when there is much going on. Also I feel like it's mostly my CPU that's holding me back since changing graphics settings doesn't make a huge difference in FPS. At least when not much is going on on screen I still get low fps, probably due to the game calculating all the AI which is acting in non visible range, while the GPU usage is at about 40% or so. This is in single player campaign. When playing online with 40 players or so in huge battles, it's pretty laggy and fps are choppy. It's not a fun experience like this tbh. I read that OA has some performance improvements implemented. Would I benefit from buying OA to play ARMA 2 in CO mode? Also how much of a performance increase would I experience by upgrading to say like a 2500K or 2600K? I'd probably also upgrade the GPU then as well of course. I understand ARMA 2 is a resource heavy game, so I was just wondering if it would make a huge difference or only a small one.
