whats the problem here? its quite right: just count... weapon used: L85A2 ACOG regarding your first pic.. was that about 500m ?? i just made an ingame comparison with a 500m far away house http://s7.directupload.net/images/120620/ysuhuago.jpg maybe you think holding the right MB is zoom?! its not. its the only way to portrait a 360° world onto a 2D screen. We humans see like 160° (http://www.itbroadcastanddigitalcinema.com/img/2011-11-09_be.jpg) but we have only flat screens.. how to solve this? use FOV... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=16201848&postcount=61 we could all play with the fisheye, but its not so attractive and we would need big screens to be able to shoot far away objects http://interscript.de/Ingo/1080p_fov_room_night.png http://i.imgur.com/ITB9O.jpg still only 90 - now doulbe that fisheye: http://cdn.overclock.net/f/fc/fc14369e_05fa620c6c31ef4e10b8f41505836536.png http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/8394/sro2008040908191579cc1.jpg unplayable..

Improved tone mapping for 1.61 proposal
tremanarch replied to maruk's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I am just fiddling with the reinhard model and the filmic.. just not so sure what the parameters are all about. is there a paramset that can handle the colours all differently? do i need a special HDR setting (high or normal) and post render setting? what I use normally in Gimp are these kind of tools: http://s14.directupload.net/images/120617/ohrvqc5k.jpg but I understand now: tone mapping is just for decreasing the contrast spectrum of an image. ;) i slowly get it ^^ is there a trick to alter the parameters ingame? (by maybe moving a car along a street for each value as a slider or so?) -

a little offtopic I suppose - but to show that the server can alter the settings also I guess: I made another comparison shots: http://s14.directupload.net/images/120616/tvzxbg5y.jpg this one is from DayZ http://s1.directupload.net/images/120616/e9tg7a4b.jpg i went straight into the editor at the same time and made this screenshot. you can see that the server makes sth. that the light is darker... just to clear things up a little bit. edit: great screenshots guys! I like the idea of tweaking also the colours a littlebit, some good results. But how do they work in the game? -
Arma 2 CO and BAF dlc question about multiplayer
tremanarch replied to RobinM's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
you need to reinstall the latest patch. or patch BAF directly: http://www.arma2.com/index.php?Itemid=20&option=com_rokdownloads&view=folder〈=en&limitstart=10 (it installs the server keys) -
Advice for a complete noob to ARMA2 multiplayer
tremanarch replied to Dragoon112's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
just play warfare on that http://arma2.swec.se/server/data/219754 Server for a while (should have a good ping to the UK - its located in germany). I recommend this for all newbies, cause it has Battlefieldish - like missions.. (Capture the Island - its like the flags in BF style but with many more cities to capture and AI Soldiers you can command (two teams try to capture the island). You can buy weapons and vehicles instead of just spawning them... Every side has a commander.. just type questions in chat.. here is a tutorial: ftp://clan-gmc.de/pub/Games/ArmA2/Warfare%20BE%20Tutorial.pdf its a good start for a beginner that wants to play around a bit.. but i recommend the tutorials and the campaign to be made before joining multiplayer.. the campaigns are quite good... (You can alter the visuals and the sound with mods if you like, popular are "JSRS sound" mod and "Blastcore Visuals" for example) I just recorded the first Harvest red mission with this two addons and the newest beta patch. and still makes a lot of fun!!!! (But do the tutorials first especially when ArmA is your first approach to the OFP / ArmA series! Because stuff gets handled quite differently compared to Arcade Shooters like Battlefield / CoD / Doom / Quake. But once you get used to it you do not want to miss it again. For installing addons I recommend the Six Updater. (It can recognize the mods used / allowed / needed on any server and automatically isntall the right ones, e.g. the needed ones and save them in presets for every server.) http://www.six-updater.net/2012/05/all-new-six-launcher-click-and-play.html I also highly recommend to patch the game: http://www.arma2.com/index.php?Itemid=20&option=com_rokdownloads&view=folder〈=en (There are two DLCs out: PMC and BAF. If you like singleplayer campaign I highly recommend them too!! lot of fun; and new good models / weapons / vehicles; you can join online server that use these models but will get only a low resolution when you have not bought the DLCs) -

Do Bohemia provide any servers ? I dont want to call some one sir so I can fly
tremanarch replied to specta3's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
it can be a little frustrating for newcomers to search all these servers just to find out after 10 mins roughly what the mod is all about and what they can do and leave, and join the next one.. they can do this for hours, make a list on paper, discuss all the facts with friends .. make a power point presentation.. and play a week later (exaggerating here, but I feel for the newbs) but normally they just want to go online and fight a little bit with strangers and find out the cool and deep stuff later... It cant hurt to have one or two BI Servers up with some standard settings dunno.. Or maybe a List of servers - what they play, what mods needed, and what rules.. a list a newcomer can quickly understand.. to the OP: Warfare Servers are a good start.. try WASP when youre from Europe... -
its called ChernArus not ChernOrus (in the intro)

Improved tone mapping for 1.61 proposal
tremanarch replied to maruk's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
no, i made these screens to show that there is really not so much difference, at least not sth. I would notice while playing.. and not analyzing via tools or stuff... but nevertheless the last night was clearly a bit darker as the nights before.. so something might have changed.. I really dont get all this.. just wanted to make some comparison screens.. without drawing conclusions... But I hope that at least it is equal for all players.. -
dayz is a good mod. for me dayz is the perfect tandem to the normal milsim! sometimes all the hectic of the battles are overwhelming. i want do something stealthy on my own. but then after some time it gets too drilling, fear of dying.. getting paranoid. ;) then I step back to my warfare kind of mods.. For me this is a perfect symbiosis.

maybe. But many other things are recorded in the database. Lets call them hidden stats. But its not forgotten its tracked, and the player knows this. Its this feeling when the stuff you do is not forgotten is recorded somewhere, not useless at all whats giving sth. back. For example: Humanity... DOnt see stats as the typical "Leaderboard". thats not what is all about. persistency is that thing that gives the digital life a sense... doing stuff for hours, you feel special about it..

I made two comparison Videos. I guess you are wrong.. In my eyes they seem equal.. 93701: 87580: maybe you didnt notice the effect before you focused on it? Or maybe I am doing sth. wrong? DId you mean this HDR Effect - no? -

You're right bro' I might have explained it wrong. I mean when you put your eye on sth. it quickly makes the best picture possible.. you cant see sth like a whole place at once with your eyes (try it out you can only focus on a tiny spot the brain makes the rest - we see with our brain not with our eyes though), because only a tiny tiny spot of your view is sharp and good.. its really hard to discuss it in a foreign language.. And of course you cant see such HDR pictures as a whole, but in tiny pieces if you had thousand eyes .. ^^ (and not thaat good yes, they look kind of artifical too, there are better and worse HDR Pictures) as a rule of thumb the only thing you can see good and sharp is when you stretch your arm and look at your thumb, its this size of a picture you get from your eyes,, but they are moving quickly and scanning the scene... and yes the pictures are too good of course, but it is what I tried to say to explain, It didnt work out.. the games imitades cameras not eyes, herein lies the mistake in my eyes but its not really better possible... I mean we have even lens flare in all these games, but since when are we looking through camera eyes? At least myself I have biological eyes and no teleobjectives on my head ;))

maybe like this: all players start somewhere on the map.. all cities are occupied by AI Soldiers, maybe not all (with some luck there could be a civ town we can occupy).. etc maybe some empty vehicles can be found or can be stolen... we can conquer a city and make diplomatic peace with other players cities, but we can also fight other players... our cities gives us income we can build ai soldier armys or we can give money to our allys.. we can make alliances we can make all vs all.. its up to the player crowd.. we can betray etc etc, we can leave the game and gift our stuff to another player or give it back to the AI... just like the old cardboardgames.. maybe it is a littlebit too long game mode, so it could be forced only on a smaller part of the map, or the smaller map in A3.. could be persistent mode, but must not be..

I know but normally i have enough money for a full squad and tanks and stuff... on this server i had no money for even ammo sometimes.. it was hard, and I took really care of my one and only AI Soldier I could afford ;)

back in 2004 HDR was so coool.. but now subtle effects are much more cool ;) But HDR in photography is something else. our eyes have a extremely bigger HDR than a photgraphic apparatus. With HDR Photography they try to somehow imitate this (It looks artificial though). What games do is the complete opposite. They handle our eyes as cheap cameras / photographic apparatus because it looks camera-ish and cool. (If its subtle I quite like it though). thats some real HDR pictures: http://www.lowbird.com/data/images/2009/05/bahnhof-hdr.jpg http://www.hdrsoft.com/images/icone/grandcanal_tm400.jpg http://tobias-otte.de/labor/hdr/haus2-1024x768.jpg (it looks like old games without hdr) But what the gaming industry wants is low DR (LDR) the thing is.. our eyes dont look always straight forward. but our screen does imply it that way... it is not possible to workaround that. And finally ArmA III did it right and subtle this time..
