Yeah I got the same thing, It happened after I took out all the enemy carrier systems and and moved my carrier closer to finish him off with the plasma cannon. :( Here's a screenshot:

Yeah, there should be a manual in the Carrier command install folder. It explains fairly well how to play and what the controls are etc!! :D
