ATTACK DAMNIT ! - Long distance....
folgore_airborne replied to cartier90's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I know, both professional and sporting shooting experience..:D But since AI sprays bullets all around even at 100- metres, it would be unconvenient to be out of ammo after 10 minutes of game because they engage targets at 800 metres with an M4 without optics! XD -

you say there are a few mods that increase the engage distance for the AI AT soldiers, but is the engage distance increased only for launchers or also for other weapons? I would have to see people firing at 500+ metres with an assault rifle.. -

I often experience this kind of problems expecially with AT lauchers. When I order my mates to target a tank more than half a klick away they usually don't do anything when I switch them from hold fire to fire at will. This is a huge flaw when playing without teamswitch in open areas because either I take a long detour to get closer or I get slain. What are the mods that fix these kinds of issues? I have tried ASR but it messed up my mates' brain making them dumb and making the enemy all elites. -
Is there any freeware software that does the same as FancyCache does?
-
My bad, it seems like these super enemies are caused more by the most recent beta rather than this mod, I will try further.
-
I have been trying this mod with the latest beta build, I am getting completely dumb team mates (they stay in the open under fire, they don't shoot, in few words they got slain like sheep) while I get enemies that look like elites...the last of the Chedakis can match up with the best of Seal Team Six: they engage from the distance, keep up suppressive fire, some of them fire and others advance. What the hell? Been playing on Veteran difficulty, I thought to lower AI skill in the userconfig file, but won't this get me even more idiot mates?
-
I am not sure if this happened also with previous versions, but I have noticed that the clock indicator is completely useless. I am currently playing 1.60 and the two latest betas. I am forced to look at the map for enemy contacts (which I hate because I consider it cheating) not to turn around 360° to try and find them. Direction is always messed up by 2-3 "hours", I mean when my team mates report something at 12 o' clock it will be in a range from 9,30 to 2,30 o'clock. The "hour" is not even given according to the direction I am looking at, and this makes direction reports from team mates pointless, leaving me with no other choice to use the map not to lose too much valuable time.

Clock indicator messed up

oops my bad then, then it was me who did not pay attention before, it seemed to me that it got even worse with latest updates. Thanks for the information. -
ARMA 2: OA beta build 87646 (1.60 MP compatible build, post 1.60 release)

What's this -beta= parameter and how to use it? My target line for the expansion is "D:\Games\ArmA 2\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -mod=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -nosplash, it's the automatically created shortcut in the A2 folder. -

Has anyone else noticed the clock indicator to be nearly useless? I am forced to look at the map for enemy contacts not to turn around 360° to try and find them. How to order AI to touch off sarchel charge by my command?
folgore_airborne replied to msy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I have just played a mission and had exactly the same issue (actually I have had it quite a number of times). You equip a guy in your team with Satchel Charges (never saw Pipebombs or Timebombs whatsoever), order him to deploy it and then you can only order him to detonate if you don't get too far, because if you do he automatically detonates. -

I am speechless...there is really no other developer in the world that provides such a continuous support for its products even when they have the next one in advanced developing...thanks BIS, you are the best! -
You mean A3 will be more PMC-oriented rather than A2\OA\BAF oriented?

I am getting quite a lot of CTDs lately, been playing with old community made campaigns for A2. Not sure if it's my graphic settings or the game itself, though. -
I would suggest you buy Reinforcements, both DLCs are more than worth playing. Personally I prefer BAF even if its campaign is short, but there are 8 or 9 single missions and the community made campaign Joint Operations (basically another and longer BAF campaign) definitely increase its longevity and overall fun.

Question on Memory Allocator
folgore_airborne replied to Wiki's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
so, if there's no point in having a 64bit binary then things are fine as they are. Like I said, my understandings of computing are nearly non exixtent and was wondering if that was possible. -
Question on Memory Allocator
folgore_airborne replied to Wiki's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
you're right but computers with 4 or more gbs of ram and a 32bit OS are not that recent and they hardly have an hardware that can sustain A2 and much less A3 with a better graphic quality than very low. Anyway this 64bit binary idea was just a wish for future games, since BI games are more hardware demanding than most others it would be a shame not to exploit all the advantages of an x64 computer, for those who have it. I didn't mean that the x64 binary should become the standard, but it would be great to make some kind of patch for x64 users. -
Question on Memory Allocator
folgore_airborne replied to Wiki's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
yes Pufu, that's what I meant. Well 64bit OS is already becoming the standard now, as WinXP gets phased out and all computers (besides netbooks) are equipped with at least 4gb of ram and therefore with an x64 OS. -
Question on Memory Allocator
folgore_airborne replied to Wiki's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
my understandings of computing and electronics are very limited, but from what I've read in that wiki page about memory address it seems that 64bit OS handle more and better memory, right? Then, theoretically, it would be possible to make a patch to make A2 exploit all the potentials of 64bit OS? -
Manhattan - Chedaki Leader
folgore_airborne replied to lato1982's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I have always found him dead in the main camp after calling artillery strike, I immediately find him because there are huge pools of blood around him. Oddly enough, from some patches to now the main camp is always near that dam to the north, while with earlier versions it varied its position. -
I remember I played EW back when it had been just released. Once I ran to the boat and the Spetznaz killed me before reaching it, once I reached it and they killed me once when were leaving, another time they killed the pilot and we drew straws, but the russian pilot never shot me he only said that thing that I should be left behind. Since I've been running A2+OA+RFT they always kill the boat pilot and we all draw straws. I never got the shortest one, nor the russian pilot. It always was the Spetz leader or the sniper or someone else.

For now I've tried only Tbb4, and I must say the game runs well like never before. Will play a few days with this, then will try another one. -

I managed to get using memory allocator, and this combined with the settings I had also in 1.59 (both via Nvidia CP and A2OA settings) made the game run nice and smooth even in the Chernarussian forests, which used to be quite demanding and slowing down for my laptop...magnificient work BIS! -

look at the build number in the low right corner of the home screen, official 1.60 should be 87580.
