To continue the discussion started in the Russia General thread whether the german AfD party is a nazi one or not. The Link you have provided has an interesting choice of words. Moreover it is quoting mostly itself and when it comes to other sources, there are mostly speculations. Not a single link proving anything. IIRC you have mentioned that youre at a Univercity, so you should know the value of a work judging by its citations. Last time I linked a similiar website here, it was described as a conspiracy theorists portal. About the immigrant politic of the AfD: they want to make sure that the immigrants are willing to integrate and are not just after the social payments. Totally nazi. Calling it racism when talking about religions is kind of incompetent regarding their choise of words. They (AfD) dont seem to want to persecute Islam, it would be illegal anyway. Willing to protect its own culture against the influences of another culture is different and natural, but seems to be nazi as well. We should start to support those salafists guys and convert to islam, even those who are atheists (like me)? As for homophobie, thats what you call a conservative party. Regarding racism, should that guy really have made such claims, then he should be punished according to law. But as of now nothing is proven and it smells like a try to discredit the whole party. Wanting more control for immigration does not equal racism (yet again choice of words). That "Anti-Haltung" part is just stupid. Of course they would be against some other parties, its their politics. Otherwise they could call themselves FDP 2.0. One example: being against tolerance is also debatable, since tolerance is all good and fine until it starts to look like that we have to love and admire some things most of us dont naturally like (e.g. homosexuality) and dont you dare to say something against it. Piles of dirt are waiting to be dropped upon you in the media if you do it. The only thesis I support without hesitation in that link is that AfD is talking about problems and not about solutions, but then what party doesn't. Oh I forgot, the CDU is actually telling us "Everything is OK, we wont change anything", and thats how Merkel was elected for the third time. It seems to be a task of the opposition parties to talk about problems while the ruling parties deny that problems, doesnt matter which party rules atm. That said believe it or not I never was a supporter of the AfD. I rather vote for the SPD since their politics does appeal me a bit more and they actually have a chance of winning.

I guess we should discuss in the European Politics thread. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?39263-European-Politics-Thread/page216

Claiming AfD are a nazi party (which they aren't) and then getting personal do not make your statements any more credible. FYI I couldn't care less if Sarkozy was left, right or center wing so your theory does not apply here.
-
Ah just read they are center wing at Wikipedia. I was just remembering a news report on Sarkozy here in Germany speaking of his party as right wing compared to Hollandes socialists. That just proves however how people with little knowledge (e.g. Me) of foreign countries are easily manipulated by our media into believing something which isnt really true.
-
And here is the thing, any conservative party that is not CDU/CSU is automatically NAZI in Germany. No one has called Sarkozi nazi IIRC although his party is right wing. I dont mean the NPD, they surely are nazis, but the AfD seems like another conservative party to me, right wing yes, but not outright nazi. Its just that our politics want to hold on the two party system (CDU/CSU vs SPD) and tend to discredit any other party who becomes a threat to them. FPD was just an extension of CDU so it has vanished, Die Linke and Die Grünen are all crazy (according to Bild) and AfD are all nazis (according to Bild again). So if you are an honest Bürger, go vote for the CDU/CSU or if you are a damned socialist who has lost his mind, go vote for the SPD. And dont you dare to vote for someone else. At least thats what you get from our media. Both parties are more like mirror images of each other. Thats our democracy and freedom. I do exaggerate, but just a bit. As for the background of AfD Leaders: Bernd Lucke was a member of CDU and Konrad Adam was an editor at FAZ (a very mainstream magazine). Not much about Frauke Petry since she wasn't really politically involved before joining the AfD. I dont see any nazi backgrounds here (unless you call our ruling party and those who support it nazis).

:D I guess "When in Rome, do as the Romans do!" applies here :D Done as this guy on youtube proposed and found this: Just look at them serious faces.

Sure does look like the "most elite imperial soldiers" will be competent this time. As for them TIEs, yeah shouldve been more advanced variants, but I guess it was just one scene with Falcon vs TIEs quoting the very first movie and the escape from the Death Star. I guess well see the more advanced stuff when the movie comes out. And it seems the lightsabers will finally get some handguards, no more chopped off hands :D Who knows whats under the hood of that Sith guy. The Dark Side is always hiding things from us until its too late. And please give Chewbacca a medal in this movie.

And what exactly do we understand under russian media? RT and one or two other magazines which we do happen to know? I doubt most of us has experience with most of the russian media sources, least of all with the ones in russian. We follow mostly the well known magazines (RT, RIA/Sputnik, ITAR-TASS), which are meant for the masses. And as it happens those are the most retarded ones, just like RT, Fox News or the german Bild magazine. Though here I must say that RIA (havent seen much of Sputnik yet) and ITAR-TASS are not comparable with RT. Anyway shouldnt it be discussed in the recently created Russia thread?

What Total War would you like to see after Attila?
negah posted a topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Well basically what the topic says. As for me Id like to see a Victorian setting for the next Total War title. Something like Fall of the Samurai but on the scale of Empire TW (less detail, but most of the world on several maps). Id like see the evolution of navy from ships of the line and steamers to monitors, ironclads and finally pre-dreadnoughts. On the ground they could implement some trenchworks, which you could set up during the unit placement phase as the defending faction. And dont forget early MGs and evolution of rifles (muzzle loading to breach loading and so on). Plenty of wars in the colonies (e.g. Boer Wars), some in Europe (German unification wars, Crimean War). Chinese Qing Empire was also prominent during that period (Opium Wars). Besides they could always use the American Civil War either as expansion or a separate campaign as a major selling point. Furthermore Id like to see a more sophisticated diplomacy system, Fall of the Samurai had a good system IMO but it was a bit lacking. Rome 2 diplomacy is mainly used to declare wars as of my experience. Diplomacy like in the Paradox games would be much appreciated. Also some implementation of cabinet wars, where you could defeat an enemy army and use it as leverage during diplomatic talks. And some sort of limited wars, where the war ends with one side achieving its goals, like as already said defeating an army, capturing a province or some special trade rights or monopoly on something. Of course you had to rely on diplomacy again to improve the relationship with said faction after a war. Or use diplomacy to isolate that faction, e.g. Bismarcks "juggling with five balls" alliance system to isolate France. -

Id like to see Medieval 3 too, especially with naval combat, though Im afraid I will be disappointed by it same way I was disappointed with Rome 2. The older titles have a certain nostalgia bonus, which makes them better in our eyes than the newer titles, although the newer games have more to offer, now that most of the bugs were fixed. Who knows, maybe they really plan a Medieval 3 as continuation to Attila, which sets the stage for the early middle ages. If they go for Medieval 3, I wish theyd implement some sort of feudal system simulation, dunno though how it could work. And you should be able to take lords as hostages to ransom them later or use as a leverage. Moreover Id like to see several grand campaigns, one for each period (early, high and late) of the Middle Ages with historical start positions for countries and scripts (like start of the 100 years war or exploration and colonialization of Americas) for the AI factions. As a matter of fact now I cant decide which setting Id like more to see next. There is a Napoleon: Total War which is maybe what you seek :) http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Napoleon_Total_War -
Maybe he wants another Transnistria, South-Ossetia or Abkhazia? As mentioned earlier Steinmeier said Ukraine cant be a member of NATO. Most likely because a country cannot join NATO as long as it has some unresolved conflict, see Georgia. That way it does seem that Russia has indeed achieved its goal to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO as I see no option of Eastern Ukraine happily joining main Ukraine again after so much bloodshed.
-
http://www.sueddeutsche.de/politik/absage-an-kiew-steinmeier-lehnt-nato-mitgliedschaft-der-ukraine-ab-1.2233769 German foreign minister Steinmeier has spoken out against accession to NATO by Ukraine after ukrainian government has declared the joining to NATO to be a priority task. Moreover he believes it is unrealistic that Ukraine will join the EU in a forseeable time.

But that rules still work. Yeah maybe its not always about survival but more about greed. And yeah go on, uprise against our democratic governments, you will be branded hooligan, anti-social, nazi, communist, or a combination of those and be happy if the police wont break your bones or make you blind with water cannons. Look here is an example of an anti-social nazi hooligan: http://www.spiegel.de/politik/deutschland/stuttgart-21-protest-wasserwerfer-opfer-bleibt-auf-einem-auge-blind-a-722939.html If youre someone who has something to say (e.g. journalist) they will first discredit you and drop a lot of dirt on you until you either go somewhere else or land in a mental hospital (and you dont really have to be mentally unstable for the politicians, i mean doctors to decide that you are insane). Alternatively they can always tell you have raped someone, it seems to be a favorite tool to discredit someone nowadays. EDIT: Not that I say we should do nothing, but unless a very large group of people start an uprising, nothing will happen. And there is no guarantee that a new government will be any better than the old one, if not worse.
-
And my point was not that you have to love Russia or USA, my point was that it is a natures law that the stronger bully the weaker. Through that the stronger has more resources to survive. For instance you show examples when Russia attacked Poland, but you dont show examples of Poland leading a war of expansion against Russia or Ukraine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish%E2%80%93Muscovite_War_%281605%E2%80%9318%29#The_Polish_invasion_.281605.E2.80.931606.29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiev_Offensive_(1920) My point is that no one is a saint and as long someone has the power to dominate others, he will do it in order to ensure his own survival.

So that now they whine about evil germans stealing their market and make them slaves working in their Lidl shops? I guess some people are never happy with their situation.

Looks interesting though I guess Ill pass on it. I have enough wargames and not that much time to get into them. The usage of a 3d map for a wargame of that scale is an interesting idea though. That Achtung Panzer game looks also interesting, reminds me on Combat Mission, might try it out. If youre interested in such games I recommend you Flashpoint Campaigns Red Storm. Here is a good review http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/11/08/wot-i-think-flashpoint-campaigns-red-storm/ It also has a map modification where you can better see the elevations. It also has a 1km grid and you can dl a winter version of it: http://www.cgf-ai.com/fcrs_map_renders.html

I have heard horrible things about the console version of OFP, though I dont remember if it was about how the game was optimized for the console or just that it was hard. I was always a PC gamer and I can hardly imagine how you can translate the ArmA2 or ArmA3 controls on a gamepad. Performance wise, I think it would be actually doable with the new consoles. ArmA3 runs well on my 5 years old PC and I can even turn visibility to full while flying on Altis.

But it is because this is how it is, the US (i.e. "the West") are expanding their zone of influence by morally questionable means (wars, revolutions, economic pressure) and our spineless governments arent doing anything against it. I remember when Schröder (former German chancellor) said he wont send the army into Iraq, Merkel flew to the USA and said the contrary. So what happened: we now have that very Merkel who is ruling for the third time with no end in sight. Why? We dont know, her politics can be described as "we dont want to change anything, its good as it is, move along" and whenever something important has to be decided she visits her friends over the Atlantics first. For Example right now the so called TTIP is being negotiated between the EU and USA/Canada. The problem is, the details are kept in secret from us and tht whole Ukraine crisis is very helpful to divert our attention. Why? Because it is very likely that the EU citizens wont like what that means for them: like importing the cheaper low quality US food instead of buying its own production, which will result some US companies getting more wealthy, while their EU counterparts get bankrupt --> people lose jobs. But its fine as long as our governments who have sold us out can live their happy lives. And we are even zealously supporting them like a herd of sheeps. So what I mean, everyone who has some power is expanding their zone of influence. Since the fall of the Soviet Union the US were expanding into former soviet territory. Now Russia wants that back and the so called West (mainly the US and the countries who are happy in the US zone of influence) isnt happy about it. Look at China, they do the same by their means (mainly economically).

Why demolish the houses? There has to be a police investigation and if the family members were aware of what those murderers would do, they should be punished accordingly. But just to bulldoze the houses on pure suspicion? Its like if you do something bad, will return it to you, your family and your whole nation tenfold. You might as well call that rule of terror.

Seems Churchill wasnt really that happy about hte end of the WW2 and seached for ways to prolong it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2826980/Winston-Churchill-s-bid-nuke-Russia-win-Cold-War-uncovered-secret-FBI-files.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Unthinkable

And what would the russian soldiers do if the people would vote against Russia or start protests? Would they start shooting? It would not only show them as occupants instead of protectors but also prevent any further pro russian movements amongst the crimeans. There are always people who arent scared by the army. There are many photographs of people trying to stop tanks at various anti-government protests around the world. No one prevented them from voting against Russia, but our own governments will never accept that some people think not like they want them to think. Besides why are the demonstrations in Russia all about democracy and human rights and against oppression by evil Putin, and demonstrations in for example Germany are all started by hooligans, communists, nazis, islamists, anti-democrats, you get the idea. At least it is what you get from our media.

Actually they had an independence movement right after the fall of the Soviet Union, thats why they were an autonomous republic after all. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_sovereignty_referendum,_1991 http://www.culturedallroundman.com/2014/03/19/the-crimean-referendums-of-1991-and-1994/ Seeing how it was formerly part of Russia and still had many russians (or russian speakers) or people who have grown up in the Soviet Union living there Im not surprised people wanted back into Russia, who they saw as a successor to their Soviet Union. I guess merely the post 1990 school graduates in Crimea were more pro ukraine due to a new historical education in schools. Others were possibly after better wages since those are higher in Russia than in Ukraine, but then again I dont know whether Crimea had different average wages than Ukraine. The recent events have just made it possible for them to get independent from Ukraine entirely. Besides If people were against Russia they would rebel just as they did at Maidan where they risked their lives in order to oust Yanukovich. And since we had no such uprising in Crimea I assume most people were not against secession from Ukraine there.

On my home PC Ive got Win7 and im not getting rid of it since it manages to run most of the old 90s games and im not that interested in the new stuff. I do have Win8 on my laptop, what bugs me about it is that Microsoft seems to hide more and more options with each new version of their OS. Things that were easily accessible in WinXP like the "Show hidden files" option are now somewhere else. And the new start button of Win8.1 is a joke. Im afraid their "advanced" windows 10 will be even more dumbed down since they plan for it to be the same OS for all of their devices (PCs, Smartphones, Smarttoilets, you get the idea).
