    Joystick setup help

One thing I did was kill headbob and wind. Eliminate those as issues then move on to your hardware. In my case one of those or even both were really ruining the way the heli responded. They do not model either very well anyways so just turn them off.

    How realistic will this be?

The sim is what, $40. Its been a while but the cheapest real heli is at least $150 a hr. I would say its worth the price vs 15 minutes or less in a real heli. Besides, its not that there is alot to choose from. Fsx with Dodo sim 206 is right up there. Get em both with a nice joystick, rudder, throttle setup and practice then join the Army and sling some blades on their bill.
  3. I have a old I7 920 @ 2.7 with a 5870 gig card and surprised at how well the sim runs. Its a heli sim,low and slow so you do not need FSX type 50 to a hundred mile visibilties. Least I do not. Also I get BETTER performance actually turning the cards settings to let program decide and in the sim crank the graphics quality settings up. Like most sims sometimes you need to go against what seems to make sense and experiment. So grab a notebook/pencil and do a organized settings tweakfest. In my case turning the vis settings down, the post proc off, shadows down and everything else up related to quality were my magic settinng. It would be a good sticky to start a thread dedicated to nothing but users posting their settings and what does/does not work for them. Edit- For example. Did some changes and noticed I had stutters and lower fps. I run Trackir and had enabled freelook. That really did a number on my performance. Disabled freelook and the sim smoothed out and sped up. Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of these totally unrealistic sounds of nature. I mean cmon.... I can hear a seagull crying while I am at 3 grand doing 120k in a H-500 with a headset on. Dont stink so.
  4. Live a little and support the the almost extinct genre of flight sims. Any decent FSX payware addon cost as much as and you get numerous helis, a nice big recreation of the Seattle area which again would cost at least as much. I felt the same with Rise of Flight. A ww1 era flight sim which is not my favorite type planes but at the cost of a good payware you get a entire sim. I hate Xplane but again for the price you have a entire sim to tinker with and support the makers. Also there is not a law against having FSX,Xplane,Rise of Flight and A-10 Warthog all at once. I do!

    Terrain Detail

I bought a few phototexure addons for FSX and never liked any of em. Looks cheap imo. Drop a pic on the ground and scatter some 3d objects. Being a heli sim I would not have minded if the highest altitude you could go would be 3 grand agl. Ive seen some other games that do this and it allows them to really pile on the textures and detail and concentrate on the 99% of the view you are going to be in. Low and slow. So far this sim visually reminds me of a cross betreen x plane and fs9. BTW-How the he** do you get a external view? I can get out but I want to see other views. Somebody wanna remind me how?

    General Impressions

Man we got us a Heli sim!! Yeah yeah, I also admit my jaw did not hit the ground when the I first saw the graphics but A, the game installed,B, the game loaded and C, the game ran!!! Thats a dam good start if you ask me. I ve been simming since Microprose F-19 on a 3 thousand dollar Tandy running at a unheard of 20 mhz. Yeah i said 20. Got my pp rating on my 18th bday and followed by multi,Comm and later helis. Flew until about 8 yrs ago when I was injured. Now that I have introduced myself,1st post and all.... Looks and feels good for a beta. Looking forward to a good perfromance thread. On my older I7 runs smooth except hovering amongst buildings. Lots of sliders to tweak. Agree to all the above on the fm. I am assuming there wil be a menu where you can check which realism features you want. Also a option to intensfy or weaken the effects ala stall buffet like some FSX paywares. That should keep the realism junkies happy while overdone for a training tool. Ok, Nuff said for 1st post time to play with the graphics and tell myself I do not need a 3 gig card.
