I think I prefer the Arma 3 threads on BF3's forum a lot more than I enjoy the Bf3 threads on the A3 forums... -

Wow that's awesome. So I should be okay with my i7 @ 3.9Ghz, SSD and a shiny newish GTX 580. Awesome! -

Just to play devils advocate, I'm pretty sure BF3 has 'bullet drop.' =) -

It might have been my imagination but it seemed like the transitions between movement and stances were faster in the recent arma 3video. If that's the case it will be easier to react and move in tight spaces which will be good. -
I agree. A range of smallish close combat maps with a matching range of weapons available to both sides would be interesting! It doesn't really play to the unique strengths of Arma though but hey. I think most arcade shooter players would expect a big speed increase, the ability to jump and fall down 4 metres without missing a step. If Arma offered something where proper room clearing tactics were important that would be good (maybe?).

Public play of almost any game is pretty lame. Join a clan, problem solved. -

I don't have unlimited bandwidth on my Internet. Not only should it be free but they should mail me out DVD's with new builds on it. I think you'll find the overhead of distributing alphas and betas will be covered by the early receipt of payment. The profit motive is a powerful one (and necessary). I also don't like our chances of there being an Arma3 demo at all. I just use youtube. -

On this subject, does anyone have any reports on what has been shown at e3 2012? -

No one in my social media circle will care about Arma. I will however make some noise about Arma when I have something to actually show (community alpha!). -
BIS saids "no comment" instead of just "no" when asked about console game.
whiskeytango replied to ^Th0mas^'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
They said 'no comment' instead of 'consoles are so rubbish they'd all melt before they could run Arma 3 in any meaningful way unless we make the maps 200m squared with a limit of 20 ai max and no vehicles.' -

Paying to get your hands on an early preview and then take an active role in testing the game is all part of the fun. If you don't want to just buy it when it's released! No one is forcing you to buy a half built game and then log bugs! I pre-purchased ToH, DCS airframes etc and it's way more interesting than waiting for a release. The enthusiastic members don't have a problem with this whilst the general public get a product thats had way more testing than BIS could budget for, so what's the problem. It's much better than the release date being pushed back another 9 months so they can test it with an internal QA team. -

We use our own for control over when we roll out updates. The mods are so large that you can't rock up and realise that a new release has just been pushed out. I think that if you connected to a server it would be good if it prompted you to download and install the necessary mods and then restart. It's a shame when people connect to our public servers and then disconnect because they don't have the mod running. I guess that's why we have the public vanilla server. Personally I use a launcher so I never need to worry with command lines.

Sequels need feature expansion and this is one big area to get it. Being set on an island, it makes sense to have a lot of work invested into boats and underwater action. I'm looking forward to seeing whether you can create a navy diver mission. Drop off from a boat - locate an item underwater or search for mines whilst a squad of marines prepares for a landing and then get to the surface and get picked up. Speaking of special forces, I read a navy seal autobiography recently which mentions the trainees having their hands bound behind their backs and feet bound. They then have to slowly swim laps underwater of an Olympic sized swimming pool. The amount of underwater and delivery vehicle action was amazing. To me it sounds much more interesting doing this in a sand box environment than in COD's corridor style. If it's done well, I expect that fans of other games will take a look at it and then realise how limited corridor shooters are. It also sounds much more interesting than parachuting in or getting dropped off by a helo.

Yeah cool - I notice in FSX that the automated air traffic control is really fluid and lots of fun to listen to. -

Has there been any mention of the voice commands and audio alerts system changing in Arma3? The audio seemed much nicer in Take On Helicopters so I was wondering if Arma3 will still have the: 'Unknown, Man, at 2 o'clock, 300 meters' etc... -
I play on our clan tactical mission server and we have our own updater that keeps us in sync with what's on our servers. I'd definitely have to opt out of an automatic update system in case I joined some public server and it started overwriting gigs of data I need.

Technical differences between ARMA 2 and 3
whiskeytango replied to mrbenis's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
The shkval is the optical targeting system (similar to the Apache's FLIR? but the shkval has no IR). So once you lock up the target and let off a vikhr the shkval will guide it by laser. It's not fire and forget but it will engage air units. Arma isn't DCS: Blackshark though it's all simplified. -
New animations: What does it mean for gameplay?
whiskeytango replied to Dreepa's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
The method used to display the rotating head and facial expressions will be changed to standard animations similar to cod or bf3 etc. That should make players look less like alien robots in MP. Super exciting new features! -
When I got Hinds installed it was oscillating wildly and would yaw like mad. I just had a look at the AXIS and somehow when installing the patch and hinds my sensitivity on the axis was set to max. I reset it to defaults and it's flying fine now. The hind seems tricky but manageable. Anyone else experienced this?

What did you contribute?

I didn't but if i had it would have been : "Alan and Rick both blamed each other for forgetting the oil can" -
Just pre-ordered this. I'd love to see a sneak peak video of the game play.
