For people who live or go to Lemnos

Hi there. Started a similar thread some time ago. There's a few pics too. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?164009-First-impressions-on-Altis-from-a-Lemos-resident
  2. This may have been asked before, so i won't start a new thread. I have my soldier, a pilot linked to me and an empty fighter on the runway. I give him an order to get in the plane. As soon as he climbs in, he starts driving slowly until the fighter stops on a wall, or on a building. The pilot simply does not follow my order to move anywhere else. Helicopters on the other hand, do exactly as they're told. Any advice?
  3. Ok here are some photos from Limnos. There are some good ones on google maps as well, especially of Myrina (or Kavala according to Arma) Anyway: 1. photo of the castle in Myrina. You can also see a small peninsula on the left which you can also see in the game. It's the beach of Aggelohori in Arma. 2. Photo taken from the same place as the one before, looking to the right. http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/6576/69ak.jpg (130 kB) 3. Salt flats as seen from the road. http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/9413/56qj.jpg (123 kB) 4. Rocky beach at the south peninsula of Limnos. Near Zaros bay in Arma, area called Agios Kosmas in Arma. http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/5210/75cu.jpg (206 kB) Could someone fix the thread title for me please? It's Lemnos or Limnos and i'm not a resident anymore. Maybe a Lemnos native? Thanks.
  4. MistyRonin: It's quite strange, I played a lot of Arma2 and DayZ, I also played the demo on Stratis and was really looking forward to the game because I wanted to see if it would make any difference for me playing on Limnos. Well, it is very strange and very interesting at the same time. I don't think I will be able to kill any locals or fire at the buildings as easily as you guys! Tonci87: Nationwide and local papers did pick up the story when the game was announced (as well as the incident with the arrests). Most of it was positive. Unfortunately, as far as I know, the mayor and some other people decided to criticise the game for potentially exposing military secrets. Which is obviously bollocks. Anyway I would have preferred if the mayor had invited BI to the island, maybe a press conference, a tour, anything to show that we're not some backward idiots who think games are only for children. tortuosit: maybe not, but still there are a lot of people who know about it and will play the game Krycek: That actually sounds a lot like an average winter Limnos night to me... :D
  5. Oh, I know. But I'm not saying. :mysterious:
  6. As I said, I've only played a couple of hours so I'll just comment on what I've seen so far. There are solar plants but not on such a scale and without the tall buildings that i noticed in the game. It's more like small plants on pieces of land of around 15-20 solar panels. There are also some wind turbines, maybe a dozen or so, but there are plans to install more. So I guess BI got it right since the game is about 20 years from now :) I am from Myrina (Kavala in Arma), but I left Limnos after high school and I live in Athens. My family still lives there so I go 2-3 times a year.
  7. SCOUT FOR HIRE (lol) You're welcome
  8. I actually drove from the capital to my grandparents village (about 30 km) not using the main road, without a map, even though the names of the places are not the real ones. It's so easy to navigate if you know the place, because the scenery is exactly the same (minus the futuristic military stations obviously).
  9. Yep, the windmills are there too :)
  10. Here's the first impression from someone who was born and raised on Limnos :) I played the game for a few hours yesterday, just some driving around on the editor and my mind was blown. I don't have anything to say about the campaign, the weaponry etc (haven't tried it yet) but the island is so real it's scary. Ok so I couldn't find my house, the main town is designed for gaming purposes (wider streets, houses etc) but apart from that and some other minor details i thought i was watching a youtube video of Limnos. The roads, hills, beaches, salt flats, dirt roads, rocks, football grounds everything looks better than i hoped and i've only played a couple of hours. I never thought i would be able to drive around in Arma 3 as if i was actually driving on the island itself. All in all, I'm very impressed with the work BI put into making the island as realistic as possible, hopefully i will be impressed by the game itself too.

    E3 2012 LimnosRadio ArmA3 interview

Good stuff guys! Can't wait for the game. Greetings from Limnos.
  12. Someone mentioned G3A3 before. It has to be in the game. It is the standard greek army rifle. Officers and most non commissioned officers are issued the G3A4 variant. Other common weapons for infantry are the HK11 light machine gun and the MG3 machine gun.
  13. @purepassion I really don't see what "Ios" have to do with the game. Furthermore, they've stopped writing articles for the newspaper for the past year or something. The newspaper did not criticize the game or "hated" it. The link you posted is translated from greek to english so badly that it was probably done with google translate. Secondly, the only quotes in the article came from the mayor and a member of the town council. And in my opinion, their views on the matter do not represent what everybody else thinks.
  14. I don't think too many people are with the mayor on this one. I think he overreacted a bit. Most people i know are looking forward to play the game. In my opinion the mayor should have welcomed the opportunity and invited Bohemia over for a presentation of the game or something. As for those who believe that Turkey will now find out all our military secrets and invade or something like that... Edited: By the way, there are no protests on the island or anything like that. Don't know where this came from.
