Hello! I've installed ArmA 3 via Steam and use Proton on Fedora to play the game. It works fine, except I cannot join any BattlEye enabled server.

Battleye is enabled and the Proton BattlEye Runtime is installed. When I cannot to a BattlEye enabled server such as the official BI ones, I see this weird looking screen:

https://imgur.com/l6TzIqc (ignore the underwater background that changes, but please notice the two arrows in the top left part of the screen)

In that screen I can only press Enter, Space or Esc to return to the server list.

This happens in any case: no mods, with mods, from the Windows and Linux launchers, etc. I can join non-BattlEye servers correctly and play there.

Can someone help me understand the problem?

I have the same problem on Linux Mint, any fix somewhere?

    EDIT:

    *FIXED*

Arma 3 doesn't download automatically the mods, I also tried to install all the necessary mods for that server in Steam Workshop but inside the game are show as uninstalled. How you manage to install it correctly? Thanks

    Sorry for late answer. ;)

You need to copy manually mods from /steam/steamapps/workshop/content/****** and copy to ARMA3 folder. Each mod copy to different folder, in ARMA 3 folder.

    My launch options:

"-mod=@desolation_redux;@cup_terrains_-_core;@southzagoriaterrain -nologs -nomap -nosplash -noFilePatching -world=empty"

If you use the same folders like mine you not need change anything ;)

Where did you load your profile files? I should do that 2.

Also i'm running Xorg Nvidia, if I push alt+superkey the key works as intended.

    I just copied 2 files: "tom34.Arma3Profile" and "tom34.vars.Arma3Profile" from "Documents and Settings/UserName/Documents/Arma 3 - Other Profiles/tom34" to "/home/UserName/.local/share/bohemiainteractive/arma3/GameDocuments/Arma 3 - Other Profiles/tom34".

Remember to have the same nickname on Linux like on Windows othewise u can be banned on ALL KoH servers... (im not sure but maybe).

The game is released on Steam not on Apple AppStore

I asked them why my Linux 1.99 server is not reported in Master server:

GameSpy code has been commented out in current port, so it won't work, and support for it currently isn't planned.

I recommend contacting Bohemian Interactive support directly. They do customer support for these Mac and Linux ports as well, and it's really them whom you need to convince about changes to GameSpy functionality. If you persuade people there, they may contact Virtual Programming and ask for specific changes. We wouldn't be able to decide on these changes on our own.

You can make server in game but thats not the same....

    EDIT:

Looks like dedicated server is builted in, here answer for my ticket:

For dedicated server, please run the same executable as for the main game, but with -server command-line parameter. You may want to provide a config file, pointed to by -config= .

You would hope that gets rectified.

How does it handle mods? What about installing mods like ones that change the skies that are installed via a batch file? Is it possible to use Fwatch with it? Faguss' aspect ratio/widescreen patch centres the UI but requires Fwatch to do it.

Not tested this on Linux yet but on Windows i was using steam too to load addons.

User files is stored in "/home/username/.local/share/vpltd/ArmaColdWarAssault/SavedGames/tom34" i see "UserInfo.cfg" file in this folder so its possible to use Faguss tweaks and tricks. "mpmissions" are saved there as well.

  7. Arma: Cold War Assault Mac/Linux STEAM

Update: They have since changed the name of it on Steam to "Arma: Cold War Assault Mac/Linux" which should help avoid some confusion.

Arma: Cold War Assault [Steam] is now available for Linux & Mac, but it does not support Steamplay with the Windows version. So Steam now has a Windows version and then an entirely separate store entry for the Linux/Mac version.

It's the same price for the different versions, but Virtual Programming (the porters) have confirmed to me this is not a mistake. They also confirmed to me that multiplayer is cross platform between Linux, Mac and Windows so that's good to have at least.

This isn't the first game on Steam to force you to buy it on a different platform. Aspyr Media's 'Call of Duty: Black Ops - Mac Edition' was also one such game that did this.

I really hope this isn't the shape of things to come, as I really don't agree with having to buy for a different operating system on the same hardware on PC. As much as I truly want to support more Linux ports from VP (as Bioshock was a fantastic port, as was DiRT Showdown), I am heavily torn by this. Torn, as I likely will still buy it to support VP to continue porting as I want more Linux ports and to try a game on Linux I never tried on Windows.

Another issue, is the platform icons and how this will again cause confusion for gamers. The SteamOS icon in particular has been repeatedly confusing for people. Hopefully by now most people on Windows already have it, as it could create some support and refund headaches for people who don't properly look at the platform icons.

One thing it will stop, is grey-market keys for the Windows version being used for it. So practically all Linux gamers wanting this will be forced to pay for it properly. That redeems it a little, since I really don't like grey-market stores.

Editorial: On paying for Linux games when you already have a Windows version

I think its not fair that i need to buy a game if i already have Windows version.

I will test Linux version how it works vs WINE version.

Knowing that the game works pretty well on wine it suggests that BI wants to release linux version on steam.

Let's hope that on the release they:

    -fix multiplayer servers browser

-make versions compatible with each other

They only porting a game not fixing game issues... Of course its will be compatible with other platforms.

  9. there was problem with actually getting the 1.99 Linux server compiled, but I will try ask our Linux coder if it's possible
    Hello.

Dwarden are you asked Linux coder about that beacasue now when ARMA CWA (OFP) is free on Steam Linux server for 1.99 version is much needed than ever.

WINE taking to much resources and is much hard to handle it e.g. no automatic restart after server go down...

  10. Hello Everyone. Well Ive been playing ofp and now resistence since 02 on AND OFF until now. I just decided since my internal drive crashed, Id try ubuntu on a external drive. Now my problem for months has been installing windows games using wine, playonlinux, and crossover trial version. I always get stuck on the second disk. I tried even transferring my installed game from another pc running windows xp, and took all OFP files, placed them in OFP directory on ubuntu, with my dell laptop running win7. Now I get that message saying, (Bad serial number given in Setup). Im not sure how to do the registry change thing when you transfer ofp to another pc. Heres a link, that might be usefull to someone, on wine installing ofp. I however am still waiting for a way to install directly with my CD roms using wine. Any imput would be helpfull or maybe its time to get new pc, hehe..Thanks

    Player Case

You need to export from windows registry this key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint]

    "KEY"=hex:[ur_key_here]

and add it to WINE registry.

    For me working very good.
