  1. Cheers for the replies, cant wait to get online. Now, if Amazon had not lost my mouse, keyboard and speakers i would be happy!
  2. Hi Troops. My PC builder has just emailed me to give me an update on the overclocking he is doing, and the results he is getting from the Arma demo benchmarking. I am a complete novice, but could you tell me what you think here guys - all comments welcome, especially off anyone that knows anything about overclocking AMD Phenom 2 x4 955 chips and any settings I should tell him to try before he takes my cash!!!... "I have a stable 3.6GHz with max temp of 59.5C through 12 hours stress test (ie all 4 cores running at 100% for 12 hours). That is with stock voltages and multipliers which is best to ensure no damage to the chip over time. I will continue to tweak and see if I can pull a 3.7 or 3.8 though with the same level of temps/stability. I always use 60C under load as the ceiling for any Phenom overclock, I believe AMD recommend 62C as the safe operating limit so 60 is a reasonable target. There is also the wear-in period of the thermal compound to consider (heat conductive paste between the CPU and cooler) which can effect temps +5C over a period of 50 - 200 hours. I have installed AMD's software for overclocking in Windows, AMD Overdrive, this will enable you to o/c the CPU & graphics card as required to discover optimum settings for ARMA and display on your TV. It is very easy to use and includes various stability tests and temperature monitors. You will find all the info you need on o/c results & figures on any gamers forum including the ARMA forums I'm sure. I will tune everything to what I think best anyway so it's not really necessary but there are so many variables and differences in game settings that forums are the best way to find optimum performance as 1000s of brains are always better than 1! I have run the ARMA II benchmark tests today and got the following results, let me know how they compare to what you read on forums. Standard 1024x768 , High , 2x AA - 54 FPS (Test1) 19.6 FPS (Test2: Full action)" Full HD 1920x1080, Very high, 8x/16x AA - 42.7 FPS (1) 14.8 FPS (2) These were on a CPU 3.6o/c and very slight 15MHz GPU o/c. The CPU cooler is an Artic Freezer Pro 7 Rev 2 (info here http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/detail?sArticle=4.%3F ) with 2x 120mm case fans for circulation. WiFi card is installed and 7x USB ports along with a multi-card reader for SD, MicroSD, XD, etc.

    Which version to buy?

So, thats the voice comms, however, do I just host a match and then you look for me, or can you just join a dedicated server whenever you like and both go off and do your own thin on the servers map, or what? (maybe I should wait till i get the game and it will become clear!)

Thanks guys. Could I ask if anyone wants to give me a list of the "First 10 things to do once i get my rig and Arma 2", list? e.g.: Install Armarize launcher, 2. install patches XYZ, 3. update to ABC etc. etc. I dont have a clue after installing it.... ArmA II / OA Benchmarks on Laptop

Hi Noobs & Old Soldiers alike Sorry for pasting here, nobody experienced seems to check the noob thread!! Your Forum is legendary - so i want to test it out... I am new to Arma and PC gaming. Something I think would really help me and all other Noobs is a "10 things to do" or "the 10 Essentials" for when you first buy the game. Hopefully it could be put up as a stickie or something? e.g.: 1: Buy the game off Steam/BIS online becasue XYZ.... 2. Download patch ABC.. 3. Update / install patch by doing DEF... 4. Use LAUNCHER (???) version AAA... install it by doing.... 5. Check that you are doing this, that and the other... 6. INSTALL Mods ABC as these are essential... 7. and so on... I already know I am going to be highly active in here, i know i can play well (was 7th in the world on Operation Flashpoint on Xbox...I know, I know...) and any support to get me up and running would be great! Dice has already sent me the keyboard plans and a manual. Anything else worth doing? Thanks guys & girls (?

    Which version to buy?

So, I am new to gaming and Arma and my rig is being built. Should i buy the Arma X edition directly from BIS online, or what? I was kind of hoping to buy all my games on Steam for ease of use, but I am hearing a few bad things about not being able to do your own patches as and when and so on. Is it better to get the box set? I am not brill at computing, so maybe Steam with its automatic updates is the way forward afterall??
  9. Hi Arma Community! I am mega excited as my PC is being built as we speak. Can I ask the never ending, age old question about whether you think i will get a good FPS/good experience with my rig, and what settings I can expect to be able to play up to? Really looking forward to getting into Arma - i used to play Operation Flashpoint on the old Xbox (!) and I loved it. Bought the Xbox 360 just because I heard operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising was being made - what a let down - I got to 7th in the world on that, but the replayability was minimal, so here I am, moving stuff around in my gaming room ready for my rig to arrive in a couple of weeks! I am new to everything, as it says in my sig. So any help about voice chat options, how to instal patches, what servers are the best, etc. etc. would be MUCH appreciated. I hope to become an active member of the community and i look forward to playing with as many of you as possible! Cheers T1BBO
