Various questions from a newbie
Mattressi replied to T.S.C.Plage's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
That could be it. Unfortunately the video memory setting seems to auto-scale to your hardware - on my other (less powerful) computer I simply can't force the textures to look any better, no matter what setting I use. I'd happily suffer lower frame rates and/or texture popping, but it seems that the game won't do it. I'm not certain if this is the issue for you, though. Hopefully others who know more about this stuff can come on and clarify. -

Oh ok; I assumed that if they didn't show up, it was because they weren't compatible for whatever reason. Guess I'll copy them over, then :D -
Arma 2 (greenman gamings Capsule version) and tak on helicopters Problem
Mattressi replied to firestormer2010's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Good to hear it's working well. I never ended up learning how to fly planes well, lol! You might also want to have a play in the Armory - a kind of sandbox mode that lets you try out different vehicles/weapons against bots. I ALWAYS die if I fly a plane and do a mission in the Armory lol. -

Mattressi replied to T.S.C.Plage's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I think I might not have explained it very well. There should be an actual "default" option to click on for the 'video memory'. It's the setting above 'texture detail'; make sure that it's set on "default" and it seems to work fine. A lot of people have had this problem and have fixed it this way, though it's possible you might be experiencing a different cause of the issue. Also, the ground textures won't ever look perfectly clear like in Arma 2 (well, A2 isn't perfect, but still), but they should look as good as the official screenshots. What graphics card and how much RAM do you have? That might play a part in the textures not being as crisp as they could be. -

You mean the default Arma 2 HUD? I can see that - the one with the compass up top and the fuel and "health" to the left, as well as speed and altitude. Try raising the collective. That's how all Arma 2 helicopters seem to be started for me. -
Wood logging, taxi, fire fighting and crop spraying missions
Mattressi replied to T.S.C.Plage's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - SUGGESTIONS
I'd love to see all of this in the game. I'd also really like to see search and rescue (using FLIR in mountainous/forest terrain to find missing/injured people), suspect tracking (using a searchlight to illuminate the perp for the police and maybe using FLIR for some missions) and missions which require landing on a ship at sea (preferably with some rocking motion). Cattle mustering (like they do here in Australia) and hunting (well, flying hunters, allowing them to hunt) would be awesome too. Some of these ideas were mods, but the links are long dead. I agree that it's disappointing that there aren't more side missions - especially side missions which make use of the helicopter upgrades (FLIR, searchlight, etc). -

I would do that, but none of the OA missions show up when I run Rearmed. I assumed this was normal, but now I'm not so sure. I've definitely got OA and Arma 2 loaded with Rearmed, but I don't get any of their missions. I do get the PMC campaign though :S -

Sounds great, Dan! Honestly, I'd love for any new ToH content. I've always wished that the Littlebird mission from OA would be ported into ToH, since there's even a littlebird in ToH. But if someone ported other missions and put Hinds in, that would be awesome too. I just love flying all kinds of missions. I loved both of your previous missions, Dan. I've played them so many times now, lol. -
Arma 2 (greenman gamings Capsule version) and tak on helicopters Problem
Mattressi replied to firestormer2010's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Gamefly should be ok, I think. They used to be a console game rental service, but they expanded and bought Direct2Drive (a reputable PC game download site). If they've kept D2D's distribution method (and hopefully not turned it into a horrible rental method, like GMG), everything should work perfectly. But, I haven't used it, so I can't tell you whether it works fine or not. -
I seem to be ok with the light helicopter, but I keep over-torquing the medium while flying. Normally I would just make slow control changes and have a lowish (50-80%) collective, but in the second South Asia mission (where you are meant to follow the lead helicopter), I'm finding that in order to keep up with the speed, changes in elevation and the tight turns of the lead helicopter, I spend a lot of time with the yellow torque light on and frequently get the red torque light on. I always end up with the helicopter shaking violently (due to the torque generated) by the time it get to the CSAR part. I know that it's because I'm trying to fly fast and high and change elevation rapidly and turn really tightly, but I can't see any other way to follow the lead helicopter (since, that is what it does too). So, how do I minimise torque? Is there any way to finish the mission without the helicopter shaking towards the end? The only thing I can think is that I could try quickly dropping the collective a lot whenever I try to do a tight turn and raise it back to 75% or so when I come out of the turn (although, that doesn't solve my problem of how to keep up with the lead helicopters speed and increase in elevation), but since I'm using a mouse and keyboard to fly, I find it really difficult to accurately and quickly control the collective (if I had a lever for the collective it would help, but with a key you have to hold it down, but not for too long or it quickly drops to zero). Is this my problem or is there something else I could do to help? Or is it just not possible to finish the mission without over-torquing the helicopter? Any other tips for flying without over-torquing too much (especially on the mediums)? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks :) Edit: Also, one more quick question; do doors (or no doors) affect the flight dynamics? I'm considering buying doors for the light, but the reason I want them is for their effect on flight dynamics. Doorless helicopters have a lower VNE, so I was wondering if this is modelled in the game.

I completely agree with everything you said Rahonavis. I've noticed the lack of life here since...well, since I came here a few months ago. I've been hoping that it was because people didn't see much point modding things into ToH, when BI were going to do most of the work for them (with the Rearmed patch). Now that Rearmed is out, I think/hope some of the modders and scenario makers will bring this game back to life. If I had any talent and time, I would contribute, but I don't have either unfortunately. I'm very thankful for everyone who makes all the great mods and scenarios for ToH (and all games, really). Also, thanks for those pocketguides - I haven't seen them before and they've got some great info :D -
Arma 2 (greenman gamings Capsule version) and tak on helicopters Problem
Mattressi replied to firestormer2010's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I don't use Capsule, but have you tried running Steam as an administrator? If that doesn't work, maybe try running ToH as an administrator (by launching it using a shortcut or the exe). To me, the "cannot open" seems to indicate a permissions problem, but it could certainly mean something else. Also, do you have Capsule running when trying to launch? Not sure if that matters. If you do, try running it as administrator...when in doubt, run it as an administrator! I've heard that there's a way to play/install GMG games without using Capsule, but it's pretty involved (involving registry editing your GMG Arma 2 key), might not work and possibly isn't allowed to be discussed on these forums. I tend to steer clear from GMG because I can't stand Capsule - it doesn't work for me (won't download games, no matter what I try and just generally doesn't ever seem to work). Sorry I can't be of more help. -

No need to be sorry - you've done great work! Just thought I'd ask in case there was a quick fix. It's not too big of an issue - I'll just fly less crazy lol. -
Can´t get TKOH Rearmed to work on Steam
Mattressi replied to grungeman's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
This is what fixed it. If there's no startup parameters, ToH will load from the registry, which loads Rearmed plus all the Arma 2 content. If you want to use the modline, you have to also tell it to load the Arma 2 content that you want loaded. -

Mattressi replied to .kju's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
YOU ARE AWESOME! Thank you so much for the AH-1Z and UH-1Y! This is possibly the best thing to ever happen to ToH - for me at least. Also, your English seems perfect to me; certainly a lot better than most native speakers that I know. Thanks again for all of this :) Edit: The only problem that I've noticed is that the bottom HUD display (the one which shows you your speed, vertical speed, torque, etc) doesn't work on the helicopters with the new flight model. I didn't notice with the Hip, because the heavy flight model is relatively easy to fly without damaging, so I never bothered to turn the HUD on. But the medium flight model over-torques from just about anything you do with the helicopter, so I tried to turn the HUD on so I could see when I was over-torquing, but it didn't show up. Is there any way to make this show up? -

Awesome! I didn't think progress would be made on this (I thought I saw people say it was almost impossible), but that's awesome work Rahonavis! Will the Mi-8 have the new FM even in missions/scenarios where it has already been placed? Or is it a new Mi-8 which need to be put into missions/scenarios? -
I did too; all I did was verified the game cache through Steam, it picked up the discrepancy and redownloaded what needed to be. Works fine for me now. Edit: actually, I'm not sure that it works fine any more. It's saying my version is 1.06.9something. Not sure if that's an issue. Everything else seems fine, though.

Bought TKOH on Steam. Can not find a way to patch it to 1.6 + install noisecontroller
Mattressi replied to hipperion's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
Ok, I just did that now and I have an Arma 2 folder in there with a key in there. I guess that's good? Damn, that must be it. I definitely only had one installer come up, but I did get a launch option at one point. I have ToH on Steam, though Arma 2 and OA are from Games Rocket (has its own installer), so I'm not sure if that affects it. Though, as you said, it sounds like the issue is that 1.06 installed, but Rearmed didn't. Thanks for the help everyone :) -
Bought TKOH on Steam. Can not find a way to patch it to 1.6 + install noisecontroller
Mattressi replied to hipperion's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
I'm not sure; I uninstalled the patch (just used Steam's "verify cache" to do it), so I'm not sure what I was using. I remember that the installer never completed properly, though it said 100% done (but I couldn't exit) and no shortcut was generated, so I just clicked on the "launch ToH" option at the end of the install to check if it worked. When Steam brings the 1.06 patch out I'll check and see if it still happens. Edit: If my Arma 2 registry was corrupted, how would I go about uncorrupting it? Just reinstall? Also, if my registry was corrupted, wouldn't that prevent me from playing online? I've played Day Z and Chernarus Life online perfectly fine. Or would I still be able to do that with a corrupt registry? -

Mattressi replied to hipperion's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
dwringer, I accidentally installed the manual patch on my Steam version of ToH (I forgot that I was now using my Steam version, lol), but I found that I only had OA showing up, not regular Arma 2. Have tyou had this problem? Maybe it's an unrelated issue? -
YES! Thank you! Any new missions would be greatly appreciated. I wish there were more custom scenarios for ToH/Hinds. Also, Snafu, I noticed the dead links a while ago too - unfortunately all of them were dead when I checked a few months ago, so I don't have any of them to upload for you. I'm hoping that Rearmed will bring back some of the custom scenario makers. Even the most simple custom scenario, I'm extremely thankful for. I just never seem to have the time to make one - if I'm playing ToH, it's to relax, not make a scenario; so I really appreciate those who do make and upload them.

Toh rearmed missions do not work!

Not sure how to fix your other problems, but for this FPS issue, try disabling picture in picture (PiP) in video settings. It gave me a huge performance boost. -
Need help after Arma2 & OA install
Mattressi replied to Hrabosky's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
This. Also, any free/paid DLC which adds more missions to the game. This is one of the few games where I would actually pay to have more missions. -

Mattressi replied to hipperion's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
hipperion, I remember having a similar issue with Noise Controllers. If you're running Windows 7 or Vista, make sure you run the Noise Controllers installer as an administrator. THat fixed the problem for me. Likewise, if you install Hinds, you need to run Steam as an administrator afterwards, because Hinds installs itself through Steam at the startup of ToH after already having been apparently downloaded and installed by Steam...it's really weird :S If that doesn't work, have you set your Steam directory somewhere different than default? As for the patch, I'm frustrated that it's taking so long too, but I know it's Steam's fault, not Bohemia's.
