  1. question: are you sure that the merkava is also present in the screen showing a mi-28 and ifv? couldn't be the russian black eagle instead of the jewish tank?

No, it is clearly the Merkava 4M.

But the hind had some troop transporting capabilitys, and some major firepower.
My money's on it being a Hind style passenger bay. I'm only expecting it to seat around four troops though.

While the Mi-28 is not intended for use as a transport, it does have a small passenger compartment capable of carrying three people. The planned purpose of this is to enable the rescue of downed helicopter crews.

The fuselage of the Mi-28 has a bay fitted with a hatch door. The bay can accommodate three people for the rescue of downed friendly air crew.

You can see the hatch here under the left engine (scroll through the pictures):

  2. Well we know thats a complete lie considering the recent Stealth S-70 modifications. It was stated at the end of the Comanche program that tech learned from that program would most likely filter down into existing Helos.

Also it wouldn't be as simple as just "dusting it off". At the end of the program they most likely destroyed all the tooling required to make it, meaning costs would be even greater again for a full production aircraft. I believe that since its in A3 someone in US DoD decided that keeping the Comanche was a good thing. Just another offshoot in a strangereal world.

But who cares! We get to fly it!

Well actually it was pretty much a heavily modified S-92 as far as we know. S-70 just doesn't fit the profile in the pictures.

It was also proved that with the transfer from a 7.62 to a 5.56, they were using more ammo because the 5.56 was weak, and therefore no real change in ammo weight...or something like that, twas an old article.

Having fired tens of thousands of 5.56, I would call it anything but "weak" ;) . Google the M855A1 and see the pen. power of it. However, the range does leave something to be desired.

  3. Yeah, but there could be many reasons they chose the XM2010, besides the wounding capabilities that is, I have never fired a sniper rifle in my life, but I think it could be:

    - Ammunition costs

    - Ammunition weight

    - Recoil of weapon

Also, an interesting thing to see in Arma 3 would be the 6.8 Remington round, there are quite a few guns that have the potential to use it now, REC7 and XCR are the two most likely, I especially like the XCR :)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REC7

    300px-Anti-personnel_sniper_cartridges.jpg

As you can see, the ammunition size is roughly the same (so is the weight ~). Where they mainly differ is ballistics. I have a feeling that they chose the .300 over the .338 mainly since the .300 is a homegrown vs. the .338 Lapua.

  4. About time we saw the XM2010 for a near future experience. Though it would be a new calibre to ballistically model.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM2010

FN2000 isn't a problem for me, will be nice to try it out.

For the life of me, I can't understand why they went the .300 over the .338 round. The .338 is superior in nearly every way over the .300 for a sniper. The XM2010 is basically a modernized Remington 700, underlying action is still the same with just new furniture.

Though I will say, any advancement over the old .308 is better.

  5. sorry for chouvinism, but i cant find it realistic to see a skinny woman shooting a m240 or something...

and when you say that it would fit to story line, we would need to have some children with weapons too ... sorry but weapons and war belongs to the man.

for sure it would be coold if females could do all the animations that the males can do, but PLS dont add armed women to the campaign or predefined units.

Who said the women are skinny?

I once met a female M240 gunner, she was bigger (and stronger) than me. As a child in Siberia, she had to walk 10km everyday to get water from a well and bring it back. Needless to say, the M240 and the army marches were a joke for her.

Give me some footage of a female SOLDIER at a firing range rather than civilians who appear to have never held a firearm before, there is a big difference.

  6. look its a game... you may talk about yourself and some others but if i want to switch between accessories out in the field that's my prerogative, and it is not prohibited in real life to take accessories out in the field so why should it not be a feature of the game...

That's what I said in the last paragraph. :)

  7. what about a suppressor ? when you don't want to give away your position in multilayer or even single.. and take it off when you move into buildings so you can move easier in tight areas...

or laser pointer to be used in conjunction with your NV goggles at night at medium ranges firing from your hip when moving fast and switching to a flashlight when you get indoors... blah blah.. I could go on...

All the cases you described are all done before going out into the field.

Also, you either zero your rifle with a suppressor or without. The suppressor adds weight unto the barrel which shifts your zero and point of impact. Also, except for certain SF units, most soldiers do not want to use suppressors for a simple reason, they work both ways.

When you are in the field enough, you learn to distinguish between AK fire and M16 fire. Hence, you can tell where friendlies are and where the enemy is in relation to them. Having them suppressed defeats that advantage. And finally, while a suppressor does suppress the initial discharge blast, it does not suppress the supersonic crack of a regular 5.56mm or 7.62mm round.

In regards your laser pointer, that must be done before hand in order to zero the laser in. Google "ATPIAL".

Please understand, I am just addressing the points you bring up in regards to real life; but ArmA3 is a game and I wouldn't mind seeing such an option in it.

  8. your lacking an imagination... there is oh so many accessories that can be used in oh so many situations for extended deployments and dynamic situations....

The only accessory I, and anyone else I've ever worked with, needed to change in the field was the scope (from day scope to night scope).

But hey, it's a game at the end of the day; so why not.

  9. Lemnos is the terrain they based the game on, not necessarily the actual island ArmA 3 takes place on.

If you read the thread, you would already know that the new island isn't a 1:1 scale representation of Lemnos.

    Dear me, I stand corrected.

  10. I've added the "Sort of confirmed " section to the list .

This will include the not fully confirmed, but not fully disconfirmed info from the devs themselves .

The list items will stay between spoiler tags until they are 100% confirmed by the devs .

Same as before , if I missed something post here (but please use the spoiler tags) or PM me with the info .

Great job so far, keep it up.

  11. Now i'm confused. If Sahrani is 101.62sq. km and you state the islands of OFP are each approximately 100 sq. km each, how come the community BIKI states Sahrani is as big as all 4 islands from OFP (everon, malden, kolgujev, nogova) combined?

    The original quote:

Armed Assault aims to replicate the realism of combat in a highly intense, brand new campaign, all of which takes place on islands that may measure up to 400 square kilometers (about 250 sq. miles): four times larger than the islands of Everon and Malden featured in Operation Flashpoint.

I am not sure if they are including the ocean/water in the measurement.

  12. watch out Lao Fei Mao.. that image is over 100K.. the bandwidth gods will smite you. Even though it isn't hosted on this site and everyone here has high speed internet and computers powerful enough to run arma.

also that is a great shot. Loosing all sense of what is going on around you when sniping is a big disadvantage. Nobody jams their eye into a scope. And triplehead users get messed up most of all when the far screens turn black... at least I think they do.

    Well it all depends.

Most people can use the ACOG with both eye's open, assuming that the eye looking into the ACOG is the dominant eye. If not, only then do you have to close one eye to see through the scope.

weapon accessories that are changeable on the move. :yay:

Who changes weapon accessories on the move in real life? For that matter, who even changes them outside a base.

  13. Mood lighting is very prevalent in games today, and has been for a while. It´s not there to make everything bland, it´s there to create atmosphere. Look at Black Hawk Down, for instance: do you complain about the yellow tinge they gave that movie?

It´s there to create mood and atmosphere, to give a sense of desolateness, heat and dust. Plus, it´s optional: just turn off postprocessing in the game options and you won´t have to deal with it.

    I want it in.

I thought Black Hawk Down had more of a blue filter added.

    Your point still stands.
