try thousands, that editor they got, probally 100,000 USD+ at the very cheap end if you assume 2 guys for 6 months (which is probally low). the ADF package custimised for aussie, probally .25 million having worked beta before (not for BIS) the biggest flaw a team can do is to try and do to many features, less and polished is better then more and unplayalbe. paradox inter was a classic example of this. at the end of the day you take the best ideas long and start working on them, once your within 3 months of launch changing anything seriously is a massively stupid idea. theirs no way we will see walable vechile interiors if they are clever. we might get armor pen models post launch if they can scrounge a method of making it work. bipods might get in but at the end of the day mechanics don't sell. if you have to close between doing better AI or creating something you can screen cap, the screen cap will always be a selling point to the masses. and BIS is a company, not a charity

vbs get requests from clients that pay money for updates and are paying thousands per licence. the client also has a clear idea of what they want, and know that they have to front the moeny to get it. having worked in engernering contracting its a far easier enviroment then retail products since everything is on paper (for lack of a better term)

its not something that can just get fixed. AI is limited by how clever the guy programing it is, what he can predict, he can design for. the more he predicts the better. you can't sit there and demand a better AI, its not like saying "replace this colour with this one" its more like creating probability trees, the more branches the better the AI. and each combination of braches has to have a answer. and if you fail to predict the combination of over 20 brachches, that at each choice have 20 options (so 20^20 total options) you get shat on

ARMA 3 Alpha - 3D Editor
nimrod123 replied to Miltonatchet's topic in ARMA 3 - BI TOOLS - TROUBLESHOOTING
yep and the military customers that pay serious money demanded that. and they payed for alot of dev time to go into that. thats over a years worth of work to make it functional. now if the community would pay for the dev time (probably 100,000USD +) on a post release editor we might get it -

nice :D i look foreward to your work being released -
dropbox no work? i'm getting "file deleated or moved"

the phenom II is still a briliant chip for multi use though. not so great for current gen for games, but they where damm good for AUTOCAD and SOLIDWORKS at that price, otherwise you needed a xenon or somehting starting at 1000NZD (that gen hyperthreading left things wanting) OT:i'm also noticing a bit of a imporvement in smothness

Does PAID ALPHA ACCESS also grant full account rights upon release of final product?
nimrod123 replied to TaxiDriver-OCC's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
think of it the other way round, preordering gets you a discount and full access to alpha and beta -
Is it possible to have inverted Y axis for heli's and planes only?
nimrod123 replied to Sakeoe's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
swap the mouse commands around, so mouse up is mouse down and vice versa -
i can land it at over 200km/h using the flight path marker as long as the runway is long enough. you don't even feel the bounce if you come in at ~2 degree's

if you want realistic you need a system where being hit = medevac, and combat ineffective, all medics would do is ensure they don't die, but that player is for all intents dead therefore for a mission like this being hit may as well kill you and the medic can "treat" you for score, but that player is gone/respawned
-
simple, if your going to get ARM3 anyway, you save ~15USD off the launch price

Anyone seen facial armor systems yet?
nimrod123 replied to BunnyPoopCereal's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
won't stop it breaking your neck if your unlucky from whiplash, or breaking your jaw and knocking you out while scrambling your brains. armor dosn't magically make the bullets kentic energy disapear, it just stops it being highly focused. it still has to be disapated, think the bruises that people get under there body armor, which is thicker and heavier, then imagine that on your head but worse. also head armor is a toss up, yes you may reduce potential fatal wounds, but you also decrease visability (or gain to little protection to maintain it), while reducing breathing ability (try wearing a mask while running its great fun), increasing the weight on your neck further. you also reduce non radio speaking ability the only way i see it entering mainstream use would be if poltical requirements made it a absolute (like always using body armor is) -
its probally up their with the f18 for being ported in by the modding crew within days of planes being added to the test phase. but honestly the A10 was forced on the airforce, and in reality they dislike the whole "not super quick fighter" aspect, just look at the next CAS thats replacing it... the F35.

Arma 3 3D editor in full release ?
nimrod123 replied to emoglobinsky's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
this has been covered when people ask about why they made VBS2 a 3d editor but not ARMA 2. apprently the 3d editor was a significant amount of work, that was paid for by clients. but the time between requestment and implementation was several months of dedicated work, and was not polished that was a direct request by clients paying alot of money and the return on work for a retail product is probally unjustified in economic terms for ARMA3 -
SO DayZ gets an ACRE in game but ARMA3 doesnt?
nimrod123 replied to jumpartist's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
since when has a company only had 1 dev team, and since when do the ideas from one team have to be used by another? maybe it should be in, but that dosn't mean that BIS should be yelled at for one of their teams doing this instead of that team giving it to ARMA3 -
if your keyboard uses the F keys to control thing like volume and stuff, you need to change the f lock settings in the BIOS (this is the only way, its a motherboard setting, not software)

6 Minute Challenge: Helicopter Showcase
nimrod123 replied to Zak757's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
have you played that showcase, their is a massive trigger around the intial objective that cancels the mission, but clearly level desgin was actually him failing FPDR FPDR FPDR -
maybe if people actually want it they should go and support the threads on the feedback tracker that basiclly request weapon resting and have something like 300 votes in support last i checked last week
-
right i'm leaving this alone now before the mods start nuking, and knowing what normally happens on these forums (the mods do pull the trigger) i would advise everyone else to calm down or leave this alone as well
-
so combat ineffective, and dead for all ingame intents? or actually worse then dead, as having a decent sized hole in your leg normally = crying and screaming, or at least swearing like a dockworker
-
so its like the mi24 and some of its variants them, some retract and some don't. its actually quite logical to make them fixed, as the aerodynamic drag is probally less of a concern then the weight increase/voulme lose due to the assembly for the retraction, and it reduces maintenance requirements

yeah, 7.62 is around the same size as .308 (which you probally know) and that really ruins whatever it hits day. a ex-teacher fought in gulf war 1 and the balkans and made comments about that, he was a sniper and a proponent of the old school, use OHK man killers, instead of what he called the piddly shit (5.56) that was being introduced. he was really clear though that one good hit from 7.62 was not something you shrug off, and every time he ever saw someone hit (look it was biology and someone said that bullets arn't that deadly :S) luck and timely medics needed to coincide for them to have a good chance
-
there is a dynamic firing range in the missions forum, that gives feedback on damage done per shoot. when i was playing round with it, 5.56 is ~0.6 damage, 6.5mm is ~0.8-1.1 and 7.62 is ~1.5-2.0. all these are at about 100m in the chest also the pistols where ~0.2 since 1.0 total damage is a kill 7.62 is OHK
-
probally because its lets blufor and opfor operate in the same/similar way. on the simulator bent, they seem to be moving away from the retail sim style into a more hardcore serious game, and honestly since they also have VBS2 that makes sense
