  1. From what I understand he got employed just recently by BiS. As for rudders- I believe there is no room for NOT having them with TOH FM in place. I mean You can fly with m/ kb, or a joystick and rudders. The latter one is the way to go. I own a steering wheel I use for Richard Burns rally, and it's pedals work as rudders for helicopters. As for Trackir- I am going to buy it, not because of what Dslyecxi said so, but because I felt I was needing it many times before. I don't care for it as much for the infantry, but for helicopters it's really useful. Anyways- back to the topic;) EDIT: BTW he didn't block me after my comment on his page even if I disagreed with him;)
  2. You got me wrong here mate. I am all for TOH FM! It is not too realistic, it's just the oposite- dafault one is too arcadish. And no, You won't do that crazy shit You can do with default FM with TOH one, because You're not supposed to- it's meant to let You do more or less what RL helicopters can do, with Arma FM You can do the same plus fly upside down. I also feel much more confident flying TOH FM. In fact, the best control I have over my helicopter is with FSX's Dodo Sim- considered the most realistic helicopter simulator on the market (coaxial systems excluded). Once again- TOH is the way to go for me, but I understand there are people for whom even easy mode on TOH will seem too difficult at the beginning. EDIT: here is a lil bit longer explanation on my view: http://dslyecxi.com/take-on-helicopters-flight-model/ (commented as "FunkySamek")
  3. We cannot have just the expert mode from TOH, but at the same time people want to have balance. You can perform all the star wars stuns with default physics, TOH is simply too realistic to let You fight with enemy using that physics model. I personally will fly coop only so I don't mind, but there are people who will. Anyways Alpha is so gorgeous, can't wait to spin off that littlebird for a little ride over the island:)
  4. Too bad instrument lights still are not suited to be used with NV in ah-9 (just the same as in TOH).
  5. I wish we got rotorlib soon. Even if we had to apply it to default helicopters by ourselves, we'd do it if a proper documentation was provided.
  6. Awesome. I guess no rotorlib yet? Or is it present, but not enabled?
  7. I hope for the same, and after reading posts from BiS guys here I came to conclusion that it is going to happen It was the only reason I bought Alpha to be honest- and no offence to BiS, they make excellent games, I have bought OFP, and all Arma series so far (well actually I bought A2 twice). It's just I am totally sucked into TOH flight model- can't wait to fly it with ground troops to support in A3!
  8. I recon it's going to come with beta (check newest video on official arma 3 yt channel)

    Flight Controls via Stick

For a helicopter I recommend Thrustmaster Top Gun Afterburner 2 and some kind of steering wheel with pedals. It's not expensive and adds A LOT to Your experience. If You are flying helicopters and are willing to drop any auto assists. If You don't, just play with mouse/kb set. EDIT: also, forget about using anything but a kb/mouse for default arma model. It's just not ment to be flawn with joystick, and is actually more difficult to fly it that way (unless it's just me not being able to get used to it).
  10. On the topic- when I fly small helicopter with NV I get blinded with instrument lighting. Any way to turn it off (collision and landing lights off doesn't work, as soon as battery is on, cockpit dime gets on)?
  11. It's no mistery at all. What I always do is to remove all entries in cyclic, collective and rudder, and then map them one after another while paying attention to what axis are detected (ie I have twist grip in my joystick, but it is not used by me as I have pedals for rudder, nevertheless every time game asks me to move controler to detect axis for any action this twist grip also appears, so I need to remove it). Honestly if it is not Your first aviation simulator, You should be fine. It's much easier than FSX.
  12. Joy controls work fine with TOH. It's not BiS fault You cannot configure it right.
  13. Done. I bought my rig especially for TOH, it should be ok with A3.
  14. How many times has it have to be repeated: EVEN IF TOH OM IS DEFAULT FM FOR HELICOPTERS, ITS PERFECTLY FLYABLE WITH KB/ MOUSE ON EASIEST SETTINGS! If You want to fly the way You did in Arma 2, be my guest to try, but it won't let You perform fictional helicopter maneuvers any more. This is what I call a win- win: balance is saved, and fun is there for both sim and casual guys.
  15. I'd say its two separate units as they need to use two different configs. However my answer is based on my limited examination and familiarization with adding rotorlib to non rotorlib helicopters. I am not sure if You cannot simply add a new class entry w/o rotorlib entry (I have succeded adding rotorlib only to class_base).
  16. It might be, so what's the problem here? Once again AI has no problem flying TOH FM helicopters (as it is according to Guess Who not even using it).
  17. It'd also be a good idea to let us download some files before actual launch (I am pretty sure I mentioned it somewhere else) similar to TOH pre order beta.
  18. I am not sure if I understand You correctly, but You do realise, that AI has no problem flying TOH FM helicopters?
  19. First of all I'd like to thank You for answering. I am a bit aware of how applying rotorlib was done in TOH (spend a while adding it to other a2 helicopters, not without any succes I might add). Basically is it going to be how it was so far- rotorlib entry in config.bin in addition to xml lookup table linked to it? I am not expecting You to give us accurate FM for any helicopter at all, I believe You have so many other things to take care of (and we have our own Freed Naar who did awesome job adjusting xml for light and medium helicopter, I hope he keeps doing it with other). I am just excited that You seem to support the whole idea. Also could You please elaborate on vortex ring issue? Or is it out of focus at the moment (I actually don't mind it being added no time soon as it generally doesn't happen if You fly properly)? Also I know Fred Naar got a response from BiS regarding integrating his Helicopter Total Realism dll into TOH (and Arma 3 in a long shot). He did not share BiS's answer- do You happen to know anything about that? Once again I really appreciate Your time You put into answering and putting TOH FM in motion for A3.
  20. Thank You very much. That answer means a lot to me. Have a nice day!
  21. I'd love to get Yura Petrov's Blackhawks with improved avionics, and also Unsung mod with whole UH-1 package (and some jungle map), both with a proper TOH FM.

Which version will you be buying?

It depends on what they finally decide to do with helicopter physics as this is pretty much the only thing I need in Arma. Gonna move to DCS's Huey if A3 continues to focus on infantry only.
