  1. The Steam versions and the retail versions are the same. They just did not amend the version number in the Steam exe. Steam players playing 1.1 are playing the same game as non-Steam 1.2. They are going to unify the version numbers in the 1.3 patch.

    Reviewing time!

Auto-aim can be a bit of a pain when there are several enemy units close to each other - it has a tendency to skip from one enemy to another - especially with the laser.
  3. COH - Company of Heroes - WWII RTS game - very, very good!
  4. You can report them here... http://www.carriercommand.com/feedback/ You will need to create a login there first.
  5. Me too, which is why it irks me that the enemy carrier seems to go through my islands very quickly. He seems to be taking two of mine to ever one of his I take. If ever I see him, he scuttles off and there is no way I can catch him. I would like it if I could switch to the Island he is attacking and control some of the units there myself - I am sure I could do a better job than my AI is currently doing!
  6. I posted a video example of the crazy waypoint logic in this thread.

    PC Bug List

I thought I would put this here as this maybe the defacto bug reporting thread. It is a short video showing an example of the poor pathfinding abilities. It's from the non-steam retail version 1.2 and one of the later islands in the campaign. I had my units (6,7,8) on an assist command and I wondered why they did not follow me when I moved my Walrus (9) up the hill and through the trees. To try and find out why, I ordered all Walrus' to move to the waypoint where I had driven my walrus previously (I have re-loaded since I did that). As you can see, the waypoints given to the Walrus' are just crazy. (The video has just uploaded so it might be few mins before it's available)
  8. It would depend on the differences between the two. When running a MP game, some things get run just on the server and some things get run just on the clients and some things on both. With code running on both client and server, if there are differences between how the code works then you may experience issues. It very much depends on what changed in the beta compared to the base vanilla game. Then there is the base code to consider - if anything has changed in the net code between the vanilla game and the beta then you are going to have issues. The severity of these issues will depend on what changed. My rule of thumb is to always make sure my clients are running the same version as the server - that way you are not going to have any version issues.
  9. I have the boxed versions somewhere (I think I have a PC and Amiga version) - at the time I had other things going on and never got around to playing it. I will dig out the PC version and try and get it running. I agree that there should be a 'classic mode' for the purists and then an 'expanded mode' for the extra stuff and then a 'mod mode' for running fully modded versions.
  10. Congratulations Foxhound. Hopefully community sites such as this will encourage BI to release modding tools for CC:GM. I have nearly completed the campaign and I am convinced that beneath the surface there is a game that can be made brilliant with a little community 'input' - there is so much scope for modding in much the same way as with the 4X genre. Good luck with completing the site!
  11. That's not what he means. He wants to build 1 manta, one laser, one fuel pack, then another manta etc. At the moment you can only build multiples of the same type of resource. I would like to be able to add several mantas but at different points in the production queue.
  12. I never played the original Carrier Command so I have no idea where the boundaries are. Also I think that as well as staying true to the original you have to innovate. This is what I think they have tried to do with the FPS portion but I think they should have pushed the strategy side instead.
  13. I have put around 15 hours into the campaign so far and apart from the well documented Walrus/Manta AI issues and the frequent freezes and crashes, I am enjoying the strategy element much more than I did with any of the betas. What saddens me though is that they did not have time to add many of the things requested at release (like multiplayer and moddability) yet they had time to build the frankly awful FPS element, You have to play the FPS portion at several points in the campaign and to be honest I have endured it much more than enjoyed it. From a company that makes Arma, frankly this is quite embarrassing. I have played free FPS games that are much better than this. It is such a shame as I think that the strategy element is strong and has enormous potential. I am not quite sure how the decision got made to persist with the FPS element as it will be roundly slated in reviews I fear. I can see what you have tried to do, but unfortunately it is executed poorly. If you have put some of this in the early beta, then you would have known this very quickly! To reiterate, I am very much enjoying the Island Capture portion of the game and I think that it should be worked on more to make it a really stand out game. Other than bug fixes, I would like to see... 1. The release of the modding tools. 2. Perhaps a 'third' player in the strategy game - something to make it a bit more interesting. 3. Different types of carrier with different loadouts and specifications. 4. More vehicle types. 5. More building types on the Islands which actually affect the functionality of an Island. 6. Better control over the configuration of a strategy game. 7. Multiplayer support. This is not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but I am afraid that the FPS element alone will drag the game down with it unless the strategy side of the game can be bolstered quickly with new options and bug fixes.
  14. The Steam version is up to date - the patch is for the non-steam version. The Steam version 1.1 is the same as the non-steam version 1.2. They are unifying both versions with 1.3.
  15. Games on the Xbox 360 (and PS3) are updated and patched as with their PC counterparts. What you won't see on the Xbox though is the modding tools - only the PC version will be modable.

Aaaaaarrrghhhh - there is more of the FPS later in the campaign. And, and, and, Turret Sequences!!! What the fiddle? Is this CoD?
  17. You don't need to. Although Steam is 1.1 it is the same as the non-steam 1.2 version! They are going to unify both versions for 1.3.

    First Impressions

I have played this all evening and I have to say that I am really enjoying the campaign so far (other than the Walrus path-finding which I think you will have got the gist of the complaints by now!). So far I like the fact that I don't have to deal with the other carrier and can just go through each island at a time. I'll probably play the campaign through before moving on to the strategy game. To build on my previous post I am now of the opinion that you should drop the FPS part from the beginning of the campaign. It's a shame you didn't have this as part of the P&C beta because I think that you would have got the idea that it wasn't really needed. The problem is that it doesn't really set the scene, and it doesn't add anything to the game - it doesn't really fit at all. In fact I would say there's a real danger people will see this bit and dismiss the game outright even though it only forms about 20 minutes of game time. I hate to say it, but it is not even that well done. If you wanted to introduce the whole idea of how we are in a carrier, you could have just used a cut scene. So niggles apart (path-finding is a rather large niggle) it's a great game so far. I think it will serve as a solid base for mods as well - looking forward to seeing what tools you deploy for this.

    Manual?

Doesn't look like the Steam package had the manual included. It's in the normal download (from BIS), but not Steam. EDIT ---> It looks like they are preparing the manual for Steam - you'll just have to hang on a bit.

You are really going to have to work on the Walrus pathfinding - at the moment it is absolutely suicidal to try and let the Walrus' go anywhere on their own. A lot of the time they can't even navigate around the carrier and most of the remaining time they are just spinning round in circles trying to avoid a tiny rock. It is especially frustrating when you need the Walrus' to bug-out in an emergency (maybe because they have become damaged) - to watch them do a forward-reverse dance with each other almost leads to rage-quit territory. If you set 4 Walrus' off to a single waypoint you can almost guarantee that they will take a few minutes to get there, getting split up en-route with half of them unable to find a suitable path.
  21. You can give away your Steam key without an issue, however it will be tied to your BI Account - not sure if this really matters from a practical point of view though.
  22. Remember that you only got the Steam Key if you bought the (more expensive) supporters package. The standard P&C package did not come with a Steam Key.

    Patch Breaking game exe

OK cool - thanks for the info. I would agree that savegame compatibility is paramount, so take your time lads!

    Patch Breaking game exe

The Steam version of the game is still 1.1 - do we know when the patch will be rolled out to Steam?

    First Impressions

First impressions are good so far. My only concern is the FPS portion at the start of the campaign. I have to say that it is not that great and I am hoping that once it is done with, we don't have to 'get out and walk' again. If it is nostalgia you are aiming at then I suppose it fits as it reminded me of FPS games from a long, long time ago. It is somewhat cheesy to say the least. Is it the same voice actor as in Crimson Lance (BAF DLC for Arma)? It sure sounds like it - it keeps reminding me of that campaign anyway! To counter this though I would imagine that most people (me included) bought this for the strategy game anyway, with the campaign just being a useful introduction as to how to play the main strategy element. Anyway, I am going to play through the campaign and hope it gives me the tools necessary to better in the strategy game than I did in the beta!!
